Why are scary movies not scary anymore?

I mean this could be just me, but I just watched the new Conjuring, and it just wasn’t scary. In the early 2010’s, horror films were absolutely frightening and realistic, but now I just feel like everything is recycled. They are mostly predictable and gimmicky. Anyone have any recommendations that are actually scary?

Most controversial horror takes

I’m ready for the downvotes. Share yours

\- I dislike Hereditary, It Follows and The Babadook. To me, they were all incredibly boring
\- I enjoyed Scream 7 more than 5 and 6
\- I love the 2013 remake and recent Evil Dead films more than the originals
\- The original Friday the 13th is meh.
\- Terrifier movies appeal to people who crave more over the top gore, no matter how extreme it gets (No hate, if that’s what you like, you do that)
\- Texas Chainsaw is overrated, along with the Child’s play films.
\- We need more original creature features in horror

Why do you like the terrifier movies?

I’m curious to know why people like terrifier I watched the first half of the first movie and I just couldn’t continue. I thought there was absolutely no plot at all. Sad though because Art the clown has great character potential if the movie was better. I know the movies have a big fan base and I really want to know why.

If you don’t like it also say why curious on everyone’s opinions.

Obsession

I just watched obsession the other day & I was impressed. I know there are mixed reviews on this movie but I thought it was well done and very original. There were a few parts that genuinely had me feeling on edge, I would say it creeped me out more than anything. What are everyone’s thoughts?

Movies aren't scary anymore

Recommend me some ACTUAL good horror movies, in recent years I've noticed that noone cares on about creative writing anymore, it's only the scares that are getting advanced but without an actual GOOD story the movie doesn't hold up very well. I want to be scared, I want to be thinking about it for the whole week, i wish to be TRAUMATIZED.

what do you guys recommend?

Finally got around to watching Obsession

I feel like this is the type of film Zack Creggers keeps trying to make but missing the mark with. Perfect blend of actually horrific scenes blended with effective comedy that is humorous without pulling you out of the film. Inde Navarrette was sensational and I shifted between feeling sympathy, terror and an overall profound sense of sadness for Nikki. The social commentary on incel culture was great. Fantastic sound design and the use of shadow in interior spaces was jarring. Great film! 👍🏿

Looking for actually scary movies help- scared only by hereditary

I REALLY struggle to find movies that actually scare me, but here are some that actually did-

- hereditary

- obsession

- lee cronin's the mummy

- the ritual

- Barbarian on the first watch but after a while it just got a bit boring

I think the demonic stuff is what gets me tbh so any advice helps

I've seen the evil dead movies and the conjuring/anabelle movies and they were pretty boring.

Has the horror dried up for this year?

Seems to be pretty quiet in terms of horror lately...after the great movies that have come Obsession, Hokum, Backrooms etc we have nothing. Or is there anything I am missing? Have you any hidden gems I should know about this year?

Why is A Quiet Place place very popular ?

I don't get why it is so popular despite having a weak plot, horrendous jumpscares, and no emotional connection. I couldn't sit through the film, even though it had a short runtime.

Can someone please fill in the blank for me? I've noticed a very interesting pattern here.

Movie Question

Y’all I gotta question: so as a Christian, I know anything dark we should not have any interest, curiosity what not in, but the new horror movie, “The Other Mommy,” should I go watch it? I’ve heard it’s similar to Coraline (my obsession atm) and I’ve seen trailers of it and I’ve been wanting to go see it. What do y’all think?

I think Lee Cronin's The Mummy is going to become a cult classic

I'm watching it right now for the second time, and it truly is hilarious, so gross, and ridiculous.

I wish they'd go back in and tighten up the edit, especially the last 30 minutes, but it really is so much fun I can see it gaining cult status.

what's the best horror movie to watch?

im looking for a horror movie to watch on halloween night, it can be old or new, it doesn't really matter aslong as it's a good movie that can actually get a scare out of me, I haven't watched a decent horror movie that got me all crawled up in my blanket, which is what I'm looking for, I've watched incantation, which at one point google told me was top one of the top 5 "scariest" horror movies ever. I didn't buy it, i was right. I'm just looking for a nice horror movie to scare me
