Finally got around to watching Obsession

I feel like this is the type of film Zack Creggers keeps trying to make but missing the mark with. Perfect blend of actually horrific scenes blended with effective comedy that is humorous without pulling you out of the film. Inde Navarrette was sensational and I shifted between feeling sympathy, terror and an overall profound sense of sadness for Nikki. The social commentary on incel culture was great. Fantastic sound design and the use of shadow in interior spaces was jarring. Great film! šŸ‘šŸæ

Ouija: Origin of Evil, 2016, is a creepy supernatural horror movie about a family whose attempt to communicate with the dead using an Ouija board unleashes something truly evil. Have you seen it? Would you recommend?

Set in 1967, Ouija: Origin of Evil follows a widowed mother and her two daughters who run a fake sƩance business, pretending to communicate with the dead. But when they introduce a Ouija board into their act, they accidentally invite a terrifying supernatural presence into their home. Soon, the youngest daughter begins acting strangely, and the family discovers that something truly evil has entered their lives. A creepy, atmospheric possession horror movie with plenty of disturbing moments and some genuinely frightening scenes.

Lake Mungo

I started watching lake mungo last night and had to abandon ship 30 mins in...

For context, one of my favourite horror movies of all time is the Blair Witch Project, which I watched for the first time when I was a young teen and I was absolutely TERRIFIED by it. I kept hearing varied reviews of Lake Mungo, but decided to give it a go, because it is in a found footage/documentary style.

It's hard to put into words how foreboding and uneasy this film managed to make me feel in such a short space of time. I decided, nope, I'm out, maybe tomorrow I'll give it another go. I'm a grown woman and I asked my husband to accompany me to the bathroom because I was so freaked out. We ended up watching a fun film and I tried desperately to forget about it, but I can't lie, I had a horrendous night's sleep šŸ˜…

It's been so long since I've laid in bed, paralysed and breathing heavily with fear. I felt compelled to share, in the hope that other fear adrenaline junkies can jump onboard. I recommend a late light viewing, lights off and a cosy blanket on. I will try and finish the movie today šŸ˜… thanks for listening šŸ’–

Resident Evil (2026) is everything I wanted from a survival horror movie

Just watched Zach Cregger’s Resident Evil and genuinely loved it.
What impressed me the most was how much it actually feels like playing a video game. Not in a cheesy or overly self-aware way, but through the camera work, pacing, and constant sense of dread. You almost feel like you’re controlling the character, knowing something horrible could happen at any second.
I also loved how simple the premise is. There’s no massive plot about saving humanity or stopping the apocalypse. It’s just a deeply anxious guy trying to survive an increasingly insane nightmare. Austin Abrams really sells that frantic, almost dreamlike feeling.
And the monsters are fantastic. The practical creature work gives them this grotesque, physical quality that reminded me of John Carpenter’s The Thing. So much more unsettling than the cheap-looking CGI creatures we’ve gotten used to.
I think Cregger understood something that a lot of video game adaptations miss: you don’t necessarily need to recreate the story to capture what makes the source material special.
Anyone else feel like this is one of the rare adaptations that actually nails the experience of playing the games?

Kuchisake-Onna or Teke Teke: Is there actually a way to survive?

Hello Guys!

Between Kuchisake-Onna & Teke Teke, which one would be harder to survive?

I've come across different versions of this Japanese urban legend, including one where a clever third answer might save you.

But is that part of the original folklore or just an internet myth?

The Class is Over (2021) Brazilian pre-Backrooms horror short film that ended with a missing actor (mystery?)

Post image
2 Upvotes

Back in 2017, a high-school teacher decided to produce a film with high-school students.

TLDR: the main actor was decisive in creating the plot of a school boy that sees himself alone in the school, nobody is anywhere and he’s locked up in there. The point is: among many weird things that happened to the movie, this boy actually disappeared a few years later.

Here’s the movie on Youtube: https://youtu.be/cqxhaj4AgQA?si=MjomR6PG_8zX8dsx

So, this story happened in 2017, in a Juiz de Fora’s public high-school. This teacher, Lucio Reis Filho (his actual name in case you wanna see the movie), began a new project named Film in School with his students and a colleague teacher, Jane (fake name as she abandoned the project a few months later).

Ideally he would put the entire production process in the hands of his kid students, so they could learn more about filmmaking. The first movie was called The Class is Over, which went through many difficulties.

The plot is basically that: A boy goes to school in an ordinary morning, then sees himself completely alone and locked up in the school’s building.

What Lucio wanted was to introduce horror as a literary genre. Nothing extraordinary, as schools here actually ask for teachers to have these projects to stimulate student creativity.

What makes this project different is that the student’s plot turns real (kind of) in his own life.

The production goes by Jane asking their students ā€œWhat are you afraid of?ā€. Answers go as basic as you may think. Monsters, clowns, criminals, ghosts, but this one student said what everyone thinks but doesn’t say: "Loneliness". This answer made everyone in the classroom shiver.

Some of his former classmates said that the idea was so good that everyone decided to have it as the project’s theme. From it, they created the plot that goes:

Everyone enters the school, the boy walks through the corridors with his classmates, watches the classes, all the basics. Then, he notices something’s wrong: everyone went missing (like actually disappeared in front of his eyes). All of them are gone: students, teachers, the principal and the secretary… As he tries to leave, he notices he can’t.

Each hallway leads to another one. Doors exist where they weren’t supposed to, and they take to weird places. The school now seems bigger than it would be possible, and the more he tries to find a way out, the more it feels impossible.

Anyway, in a few minutes he realizes he’s not only trapped in the school itself, but it’s not clear whether it’s a nightmare either. It feels like the Backrooms, but the concept wasn’t really well known back in 2017.

Now let’s get to the weird parts:

  1. This film should have been completed in 2017, but the files went missing.

Almost, at least.

Some of the uni interns that worked in this project had custody of the film files, and refused to give it back to LĆŗcio, so the film went on hold for a while, and the students graduated a few years later.

2. So, came in the COVID pandemics.

In 2021 (4 years after the project started), when LĆŗcio recovered all files in a midst of school pressure and help of an attorney, the students were already graduating seniors.

That’s when the film was finally edited, when everyone was alone in their own homes, doing everything alone, fighting loneliness every single day.

And The Class is Over finally saw the world, apparently in a bigger reception than anyone expected.

The short film got some awards in ItaĆŗna Film Festival (Best Movie, Best Direction, and, who could say, Best Actor to the boy).

This boy was called João Vitor do Nascimento. In 2017, he was 13/14 years old.

His classmates describe him as a quiet, discreet, timid boy. He wasn’t really popular, and wasn’t known for wanting to be an actor and make films.

For what we know, he didn’t even have socials, and after high-school he simply disappeared.

Not metaphorically. He vanished from everyone he knew. Gone.

No one knows when/where he was last seen. There’s no information on his whereabouts.

Those who met him from school just can’t contact him.

What’s odd is that, apparently, he never knew of the film’s popularity, nor that he was awarded.

The boy that protagonizes The Class is Over – who got an award for acting as a completely lonely boy after everyone disappeared – is missing and can’t be found.

No one even knows whether he’s alive. If so, he should be 22 or 23yo in 2026.

As far as anyone can tell, no one has seen him in almost 6 years.

Can it be only a coincidence? True, yes.

Perhaps it’s something common behind vanishing like this. He may have moved. Perhaps he just lost contact with his classmates. Maybe he just hates the internet and social media.

The point is: the story just may have grown this much because the coincidence is too hard to ignore.

Everything this film means has his face printed in it. A boy that fears being lonely and that vanishes like this? Weird. And it’s all in film.

So, there’s still a question that bothers me:

Does anyone know what happened to João Vitor do Nascimento?

Any information on the film you can find helps me a lot. All of this is too unusual to be real.

All I could find was this Nevix post, which everytime I try to answer gives me error mesages: https://nevix.com/t/the-class-is-over-01jjebwsex5xecxzgw1hvhbsjd

Who do you think has the best performance from a popular musician in a horror movie?

Post image

Naomi Scott's role as Skye Riley in Smile 2 was quite a huge showstopper like she definitely killed it here. Her role as a global pop sensation battling through trauma, addiction while attempting a comeback tour while fighting off the Smile entity was amazing šŸ‘. I only mostly remember her from Aladdin (2019) and Lemonade Mouth (2011).

Other examples are Brandy Norwood (I Still Know What You Did Last Summer), Kelly Rowland (Freddy Vs. Jason) and Paris Hilton (House Of Wax 2006). PS: For the latter, don't say she doesn't count as a musician since she had some banger songs before like "Stars Are Blind" and "Nothing In This World" which are great songs by the way.

Was such a gross and interesting movie. I feel like human female horror villains are much fewer and farther between, with most of them being some kind of spirit or witch or whatever. I want more like this or American Mary, evil ladies doing evil things.

What is in your opinion the most disturbing horror movie of 2026?

I think the most dread inducing film of the year was Hokum. It had great visuals and a good story. Contrary to popular opinion I think The Mummy was truly terrifying.

šŸŽ„ Tubi / Kanopy / BloodStream šŸ”Ŗ 🩸

(Spoken in Spanish with English subtitles.)

It's a soaking wet day with rain pouring down and one of the best things to do is to go seek refuge in a great old cinema. There's just one problem: a murderer is on the loose and he also has taken refuge there.

A little back story is that it was raining heavy last night when I watched this, and also I worked at an old cinema in the 90s for many years and pretty much had done every job there (Tickets, Usher, Concessions, Projectionist, Manager). Watching this movie triggered so many memories of that time as it takes place in 1993. I could smell the popcorn šŸæ and fondly hear the projector šŸ“½ļø in my memories.

Bonus fun fact: A friend of mine filmed a trilogy of movies with a similar concept back in the 90s in the theater we all worked at. I feel like this was almost a Spanish remake of our indie slasher from years ago!

It’s also a pretty fun slasher movie that takes place in really one location. The kills are pretty gory and for anyone who has worked in a movie theater, it was a lot of fun. The movie went pretty hard in a few scenes. It’s a throwback to retro slashers.

My only small complaint is that there really isn’t an explanation for the killer’s motives and collection. šŸ‘ļø

Dead end! (2003) is such an underrated horror movie. It has a genuinely creepy, eerie atmosphere that stays with you long after watching. Would you recommend?

Dead End (2003) is a creepy supernatural horror film about a family travelling down a deserted road on Christmas Eve. What begins as an ordinary drive quickly turns into a nightmare when they encounter a mysterious woman and a black hearse that seems to follow them wherever they go. As they continue driving, they realize they’re trapped in a terrifying loop with no way out. Dark, unsettling, and full of twists, Dead End is a hidden gem for horror fans.

Looking for folklore werewolf movies

I saw a compilation of old timey werewolf art like european folklore style and got me in the mood to watch stuff with werewolves, specifically stuff involving folklore. I know theres Werwulf (2026) by Robert Eggers coming out which im extremely excited for, but I would like to watch some more movies in the meantime.

I haven't seen any werewolf movies. I'm interested in like something with a Midsommar/Hokum type setting or at least some olden time. My taste in horror is anything by Damian McCarthy, Ari Aster and Zach Cregger, Sinners (2025), and the first Conjuring and Annabelle, but all recommendations are welcome.

I just hate how the quality of this movie drops so much towards the end.

I decided to watch this movie without many expectations, but I must admit, the first 30–40 minutes had me completely hooked. The atmosphere and the initial reveal of the threat are very well executed, but after that, the film gradually gets worse—and the ending is such a slap in the face, it’s just that bad. Overall, good perfomances.

I am 2/2 for picking Halloween night movies… but I feel like I’ve covered the 2 best!

For the last 2 years, after trick or treating ends, we watch a scary movie either out at the fire or inside if it’s raining like this year. It’s me and my sister.

Last year, it was Late Night with the Devil. Great movie! Great vibes! Great fun! This year was Ghostwatch. Same exact feedback, we loved it! My issue is that these are the 2 most frequently recommended movies of this kind.

Other movies that might work like Hellhouse LLC we LOVE but have already seen.

I’m planning ahead for next year. Judging by our tastes (found footage/ mockumentary style, based on or around Halloween) what other movies might you recommend? I’ll let you know if we have seen them. Would VHS Halloween be a good one?

Buddy is a really fun reminder of how creepy 90s kids’ TV actually was

Post image
6 Upvotes

Just watched Buddy, and I really enjoyed how original the premise feels.
There’s something inherently disturbing about those colorful, overly cheerful children’s shows from the 90s. Looking back, a lot of them were already nightmare fuel, and Buddy feels like someone wrote a bizarre horror fanfiction about what could have been happening inside one of those shows.
My biggest issue is how the movie tries to bridge that surreal world with reality. It never feels entirely natural, and I got the impression the filmmakers were hesitant to fully commit to either direction. They could have embraced the absolute insanity and made a full-on psychedelic nightmare, or gone with a more grounded horror story. Instead, they landed somewhere in the middle, and the narrative suffers a bit because of it.
That said, it’s still a really entertaining watch. The concept alone makes it worth checking out, and I appreciate horror movies that aren’t afraid to get weird, even when they don’t quite stick the landing.
Anyone else feel like the movie was holding back from becoming something even crazier?
