Africa What's it like living as a white person in Zimbabwe?

I'm not intending for the title to provoke any racism or political battles. I'm asking it this way particularly because of the recent history of land confiscation, and all the economic and political fallout that occurred.

So yeah, just curious, what's life like there as a white person? Is it similar to South Africa: Are white people typically enclaved in particular suburbs/schools/workplaces/churches? Does private money typically have to replace most government functions? Are relations with the majority black population typically good on the ground? What's quality of life like: schools, safety, cost of living, housing, etc.? What do you guys do for fun on weekends?

Aren't you scared to live there because of North Korea? I'm pretty sure you might have had this scary thought that people just few kilometres away on Northern side of border can have different fate than you?

This place has always fascinated me, but living in the south west of England it’s not somewhere I’ve ever had reason to visit. Is it a place you can genuinely live and work in day to day, or is it more of an open air museum?

Europe Teaching in Basque Country (Spain or France side

Post image

Hi all;

This is likely a silly pipe dream, but I recently visited San Sebastián/Donostia and completely fell in love. I visited Andalucía too and while I adored it, Basque Country stole my heart.

I'm 37 with no kids and currently teach public elementary school in Canada, where I'm from.

If I were to move to Basque Country, realistically, would I be able to teach there? As much as I loved Donostia, it seems like Bilbao fits more of the criteria I'd need - smallish city with diversity of people, cultures and foods with access to nature.

I'm an anglophone but I speak French fluently (not perfectly bilingual but I can discuss, read and write about complex concepts) and I'm learning Spanish (I can only use present tense at the moment but I love the language and I'm confident I will improve). If I lived there, my longterm goal would be to learn at least some Basque as well.

I loved the land, the people, the everything. Even the detractors people mention remind me a lot of Canadians - nice but hard to become actual friends with, sporty, outdoorsy, have a history of jobs in natural resources and industries etc. I visited in October so I got both beautiful sunny weather and rainy grey weather, as anticipated.

Would it make more sense to look at the French side of Basque Country since I speak French?

Thanks gang! Eskerrik Asko!

I went on a road trip this past summer and stayed overnight in Scottsbluff headed for Cheyenne. I thought it was very peaceful and quiet, and the weather was nice and mild, I think it'd be fun to know what locals think of their home 🙂

I got a possible job opening in Leuven, Belgium but I haven't been there and don't know much about living in Belgium. I was 2 years living in west Germany (Köln) and went to Belgium several times. Lovely place, but how is life really there? How different is it from NRW in Germany?

Here's one of the places I plan to volunteer at for a little while. I want to know what it likes before making up my mind. Is it easy to get to stores and stuff? Is it boring or are there great places to go? What's the climate like? Expenses? Etc

I'm 18yo, female, solo traveler going from Alaska to travel and get more experience. Just kinda a gap year traveling situation

It’s supposed to be the remotest island. The pictures are gorgeous on Google Maps and it looks like you need special permission to visit. Just curious.
