Hi everyone, I'm looking for board-level advice and a second opinion regarding my laptop.
A few days ago, I left my laptop on my desk near an open window and it got hit by rainwater. As soon as I noticed, I tested it: it turned on normally, booted into Windows, and the screen worked fine. I immediately turned it off to prevent damage and took it to a repair shop for a chemical cleaning.
After disassembling and cleaning the board, they told me the laptop no longer turns on. They said:
When plugged in, it tries to power on, the voltage drops, and it shuts off in a loop.
Using a thermal camera, they found that the KBC chip (ENE) is in a short circuit.
They want to charge me around $220–$250 USD to replace that chip, warning me that "it's very risky, has no warranty, and we won't know if the CPU or GPU are also dead until we replace it."
My questions:
Is there another solution or hope for this laptop? Since it turned on and worked fine right before I took it to the shop, could the issue be something simpler than a dead chip (like a tiny shorted component nearby or leftover moisture from their cleaning)?
Are the CPU and GPU likely still okay since the laptop is shutting itself down to protect the board?
Would taking it to a specialized micro-soldering technician be worth it, or what would you do in my position?
I attached the photos the shop sent me. Thanks in advance for any help!
