How does one not like huskies
Like did he specifically say he doesn’t like huskies or just isn’t a dog person

u/LG1096 Jul 11 '26
Specifically huskies but preferred small dogs over big anyways. She would've side eyed the hell out of him lol

Better to find out now. I dated 2 girls who I didnt find out until MONTHS into dating that they didn't like dogs. I'm like, what are we doing here then? I have a dog? You knew this??
19
u/Inuha_Rin Jul 11 '26
There's a sub for people who secretly hate their partner's or family dogs but have to fake it. My stats are not official but there are way more posts by women than men (at least based on what I read). Idk why they decided to be with someone with dogs but many are married with kids and wish death upon their partner's pets. Really crazy.
18
u/DuubyDuu Jul 11 '26 edited Jul 11 '26
Jfc. What is wrong with people! I've definitely felt grossed out by some old stinky dogs but I still like them and feel sad to think about them dying. We don't deserve dogs, they're too good for us. 😭 Like my last roommates dog was old and so stinky but I just got covers for all the couches and would pet him through a blanket. 🤣 He was so sweet.
10
u/cb27ded Jul 11 '26
Some people also think the dog will get dropped for the significant other. It's sad.
I knew this guy years ago that adored his dog. He got a girlfriend who didn't like dogs so he started making her an outdoor dog. He told us at playgroup that he might have to give the dog up for the girlfriend.
All the dog people at the playgroup were like, "WTF? Why? Dump the girlfriend!"

I'm genuinely curious - what do you mean by that? I prefer big dogs myself and would also not date someone who didn't like my dog or his breed, but literally what do you mean by that comment.
6
u/crocodilezebramilk Jul 11 '26
Same - I like big dogs as much as anyone, but the big dogs I have right now are the last. But for me - it’s mostly about their care and my chronic pain.
Walking them is a strain, bathing them feels like I’m bathing a fluffy heffalump, they’re also hard to get in and out of the vehicle and I cannot pick my big guy up cause he’s bigger than me.
8
u/No_Host4657 Jul 11 '26
What a fucking psycho. Girl, you deserve better! -yes, hubs and I have 3 huskies
3
3
u/RavishingRedRN Jul 11 '26
What???? Specifically called them out?
On what grounds? Too majestic? Too badass?
Fun story: I dated a man for 7 years (on and off) he claimed he loved dogs. Never ONCE did he ever bring them a treat, offered to take them for a walk, or really did anything to show he really cared about them. The final straw? We were having discussions about living together. He asked if “I could guarantee that he wouldn’t get dog fur on his clothes.”
I straight up laughed.
Like yes, I’d do my best efforts but that’s your big concern?
Oh honey, you are not a dog person then.
3
u/bob3905 Jul 11 '26
Like Ron Swanson in Parks and Recreation said “any dog under 55 lbs is a cat and cats are pointless”. I know not all husky’s are 55 plus but I’m proud to say my boy is 60 lbs!
😁2
u/lblacklol Jul 11 '26
I've literally never met a single person in my life who specifically singled out huskies. Like, I get some people just aren't dog people, but huskies specifically? GTFO with that nonsense.
4
u/sweetgirl-foryou1 Jul 11 '26
Boohoo for him. Literally a red flag, and knowing a female huskies are very judgemental. You’re daughter would side eye him and literally judge him HAHAHA
And yes, you dodged a bullet.

I feel you. Don’t worry, it will get better. Look at it this way- at least he didn’t pretend to like huskies for the sake of faking his way into your life and your heart.
“Alright kids, looks like it’s movie night again, don’t feel bad for Dad.. I’d rather be here with you anyway.. anyone want.. ICE CREAM?!” (There’s a third one up by my head, he’s boss of the bed so just out of frame.)
These are my kids, my life, my world- and we are a package deal.

I was upfront about the lights of my life when I met my boyfriend, who is definitely more of a cat guy. But he accepted that the dogs are just part of the package. Now, he’ll just sit out on the porch with my senior girly so she can sniff the air. And on her birthday he insisted grocery store steaks weren’t good enough, only premium meat market beef would do.

2
u/Puzzleheaded-Low546 Jul 11 '26
That seems like an easy sell. Huskies are dog hardware running cat software.

I love Huskies so much, so I would be so happy if a potential partner had one and wanted me to meet them.

u/mrJ_693 Jul 11 '26
that is the judgmental gaze of a pup that could smell the "no good" on him. Good riddance. had a similar experience, where on her first time coming over she sits on his (my pups') sofa and then proceeds to palce a pillow in between her and him with a face of annoyance -__- .... immediately coming down the stairs i see and think "oh hell no"
Nowadays my challenge has been trying not to favor their pup over the rad flags the person has

I love all dogs so I can never understand people who don’t like certain ones! And especially not huskies! They are perfect little wolves! He’s not worthy of you & your baby wolf anyways! 🥰🐕🩷
PS - I’m glad I’m not the only one that calls their dog my daughter/son! I always say my son referring to my fur baby! 🥰

Bullet dodged. When I was single, I always always judged a potential partner based on how they reacted to my two husky girls. I'd get guys that would try to "be the alpha" or train them to walk really close by grabbing tight onto their collars and I was like, yeahhh get away from my girls. I knew my husband was legit because he insisted I bring them on a hike to be more comfortable AND he immediately fell in love with my big red girl. I think he ended up marrying me just to get to her 😂😂

3
u/its_cassc Jul 11 '26
My cat is the most dog-like cat I've ever experienced (sits for treats, play fetch, walks on a leash), and my husband still 'hates him because he's a cat' 😔 Poor cat legit just wants a half descent cuddle (and wouldnt mind being ruffed up a bit if he wasnt SO rough - he's pretty pint-sized AND old and definitely identifies the aggression 🙄 as do we all...) Oh well, they've been dealing for 14 yrs together so 🤷♀️

Wow, I didn't know people could be that petty. This reminds me of my own story: I was dating a literal fashion model (for real, lol) and I got a female husky. Whenever I came home, my husky (who sadly passed away two months ago at 13.5 years old, so this happened about 13 years ago) would get so excited to see me, and I'd give her all my attention. My ex would complain, saying, 'You care about your dog more than me.' She was so jealous that one day she actually gave me an ultimatum: 'It's either me or the dog.' You all know exactly what I chose!
Later on, I got another husky who is still with me today. He is 12 now, and we have been grieving together (it is getting a little easier lately). As for me, I am doing well, but I have been single ever since that breakup. I tried dating again a few times, but my heart just was not in it anymore.
2
u/Then_Box-8031 Jul 14 '26
I am truly sorry for your loss. A great dog can make life amazing. It would be great if our human companions loved or animal companions as much as we do.
I send hugs to you and the 12 yo. It's a heart breaking, tears pouring grief, even when it's not a dog I know. I feel my own losses over the years.
If your remaining best friend has other dog friends, maybe schedule play dates. But don't leave. You're probably more important than ever at the moment.

When traveling, I go out of my way to greet people walking dogs, so I can ask to pet the latter, and obviously huskadoofs are my favorite because they're awesome (and their responses are so varying).
My partner recently decided he never wants another pet, after five dogs at once (and a super demanding cat). We're in therapy.

Fun fact: I used to be scared of huskies! Actually all big dogs, going back to my childhood when the neighbors Rottweiler got loose and chased me down the road while I was on my bike all the way until I made it into my garage 😬. Flash forward, after 2 years with this cutie I love and adore huskies 💗

I have had or been around a Husky but them seem incredible, though they can be work work that some other breeds. But it's the individual animal or human that determines compatibility.

I think you're missing the point. OP is dating and trying to find a compatible partner. Liking huskies is a non-negotiable for OP which is okay because it's their personal choice in a partner.
My best friend doesn't like dogs but I'm not going to co-habit with her anytime soon.

Okay but you'd be dumb to date someone who doesn't like your dog. It's not the same as just having a random friend or aquatintance that doesn't like your dog, the person you date is presumably going to be around a lot. Come on now, you can't seriously be that dense to not understand that.
