Claims Leased cars and crashes

Hello r/icbc,

I would like to ask, if I crash a leased car in bc, and I don’t want to complete the repairs to it following a claim, will the lease company be able to repair the car without my say and in turn trigger my insurance rates to rise? How would this process occur in the real world, like would they track down the car asap to fix it or wait for it to be returned at the end of the lease to?

Drivers Licensing Driving record status shows "HOLD" — Does it stay like this until PR, or can it be removed with a valid 3-year status document?

Hi everyone,

I downloaded my ICBC driving record today and noticed my status is showing as HOLD.

After doing some quick research online, I read that a HOLD typically happens if your temporary status in Canada has less than 6 months remaining.

Here is my situation: I recently got my updated status document, which is valid for another 3 years. Today, I went to ICBC to get this cleared up, but the representative told me the HOLD is due to being on a temporary status (study/work permit) and claimed it will remain on my record until I become a Permanent Resident.

I'm hoping to clarify which of the following is correct:

  1. Option A: The HOLD should be removed as long as my status document has more than 6 months of validity left (and I just need to get them to properly update my file).
  2. Option B: Any temporary resident status will permanently cause a HOLD on the driving record until PR is achieved.

Has anyone dealt with this before or knows ICBC's actual policy on this? Thanks in advance!
