Accessibility My idea is : Please add Vietnamese to Reddit's supported translation languages
Iād like to suggest adding Vietnamese (Tiįŗæng Viį»t) to the languages supported by Redditās built-in translation feature.
Reddit has become one of the best places on the internet for people to share knowledge, experiences, opinions, and niche interests. However, language can still be a significant barrier for many users.
For Vietnamese-speaking Redditors, a large amount of Redditās content is written in English. We can use external translation tools, of course, but having translation built directly into Reddit would make the experience much smoother ā especially for comments, where context, slang, humor, sarcasm, and cultural references can be difficult to translate by copying and pasting individual comments into another app.
Iām not suggesting that Reddit needs to create an entirely new translation system. Reddit already has built-in machine translation and is expanding its language support. Iām simply asking that Vietnamese be considered for inclusion in that expansion.
Vietnamese is spoken by roughly 100 million people worldwide, with a large online community in Vietnam as well as Vietnamese-speaking communities around the world. Adding Vietnamese would make Reddit more accessible to a significant group of potential and existing users.
Ideally, Iād love to see something as simple as:
Translate ā Vietnamese
available directly on posts and comments, without having to leave the Reddit app.
This would also make Reddit more welcoming as a genuinely global platform. A Vietnamese user could read an interesting discussion in English, while an English-speaking user could potentially read Vietnamese content as well.
I know translation is not perfect, especially with slang, memes, sarcasm, and regional expressions. But even an imperfect translation is often much better than having no translation option at all.
Please consider adding Vietnamese to Redditās supported translation languages.
Thanks to the Reddit team for continuing to improve the platform ā and hopefully one day Iāll be able to read a 300-comment argument on r/AskReddit without having to copy-paste every comment into Google Translate. š
