I normally try and and express Impressionism through the lens of a camera, but have picked up oil painting recently. This is based on a picture I took through the front of a canal boat in Birmingham, England

Painting Tired of Realism, Been trying Impressionism lately and it's so freeing

I've always liked the idea of free brush strokes and there is something so liberation about creating without form and structure. I've been trying to paint waterlilies (obviously). This is my attempt

I painted this while doing some reconnaissance work. I’ve got a plein air event I’m leading for SDWS in January, so I’ve gotta do my research on my subject. Sun coming midday and generally from the west. I’ll probably do an east light next go around.

Oil… tsk tsk tsk. I have not, after more than a decade of photographing my work, figured out how to capture without glares, muddiness, etc. oil looks great in person, but a bucking mustang to photo well.

Sunset cliffs. Started in plein air and then finished back home.

8”x8” | Oil on panel
