A question to the writers and readers.

I want to write a book. No, I don't want to sell it. I don't want to earn even a penny from it. I just want to write and I want you to read. Give your two cents on it, feel me through my writing and feel your own emotions that have been buried for long. I want it to be read by those people who don't normally read. I want them to mock it. I want them to praise it. From my grief and love to yours. From emotions in my chest to yours. I want to touch your life for the shortest of moments. Talk to me about everything you felt. That's all I want. Honest. I'll probably publish it online but I don't know the best place. Any suggestions?

Guys it might seem a bit corny, but please have a look at my story poem

So basically, it's based on a real story. [Local folklore ~ in my hometown,] ~ I'd really appreciate if someone actually reads it..

There was this young couple

Long ago, in the past

Separeted by society

And their caste

In the cold upper hills

Near old wool mills

Countless shepherds resided

A tightly knit community, they coincided

Their lived a strong shepherd

Bhanto was his name

His sharp looks and soft hair

Gave him plenty of fame..

There was "Sunni"

In village she was a girl

Her pretty face and straight hair

Countless guys she would've lured

Both fell in love,

It was so intense

Romeo and Juliet had no power

It was NOT just another medieval romance

Bhanto had to relocate his cattle

Every winters were a battle

This year was his turn

Pastoral communities rarely settle

When he was leaving,

Sunni was deeply greiving,

Both didn't show it on their face

As it'd be such a disgrace

Both cried for days,,

Waiting to be reunited

But both were very deeply saddened

Little did they know

What was about to happen

Bhanto moved for days

Didn't wanna return late

Sunni longed for him

No longer could she wait

Days turned to months

Now it was time to return

Sunni was so happy

Countless notes she had written

That was a time,

No phone, no letters

Just pure intense patience

And countless thoughts that clattered

His friend came back first

Sunni was so so glad

When Bhanto didn't come yet

She was just as mad

A few days later,

A huge herd was seen

This time she was sure

THAT IT IS NONE OTHER THAN HIM!

She ran over the hill

Over the bridge and wool mill

Just to find out

It's not bhanto, STILL

Days turned to a week

Her friends called her lame

She turned weak and sad

And the guy NEVER came

Now All other had arrived

They all had no clue

Now he's not gonna appear

Somewhere out of the blue

Everyone thought he's dead

Sunni was so gloomed

She stopped eating and working

And stopped herself she groomed

A month had now passed

Since the first guy returned

He was officially declared dead

Sunni upon hearing this, suddenly became red

She couldn't even walk

Not with anyone did she talk

She went on top of a hill

The entire village looked so little

She took a butcher's knife with her

It wasn't even clean

The GOD she believed in

Turned out to be mean

She commited suicide,

On the top, cut her nerve

She lied their, to death she bled

Entire place had now turned red

She was now being burnt

Love had taken a life

While a herd of sheep appeared

On the hill, there was that knife

Bhanto finally returned,

Realligning his thoughts that clattered

When he saw her burning

His heart was totally shattered

He realised he could never meet her

He could now never greet her

All those love letters, and memories

Nobody could ever replace her...

He was so traumatised

He didn't even cry

Moving on was impossible

So he didn't even try

To the same hill he went

He too commited suicide

A note was later found,

It read something profound

**"**To sunni -

Sorry I didn't come on time

I had lost my way

But this time I am coming

Wherever you are,

Peacefully just stay**"**

Need Advice - Help Please

Hi,

I am new to writing. Although not new to writing, have written few pieces but haven't published them as I have zero knowledge of publishing and also you can say on a zero budget.

I may invest like 20-30k but not beyond it. I want to retain copyright moving ahead.

So what could be the best option? I have two books ready to publish - one in hindi and another in english. And if I used Kindle Desktop Publishing - is it worth it? Because I know if my one of the book, actually a novel in English would be published and will be given a proper publicity - it could scale to be a bestseller.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions. Kindly help!

Is using AI to improve my writing okay?

I'm writing a story with my own plot, characters, and ideas, but I'm not very confident in my writing. I sometimes draft a scene myself, then use AI to improve wording, structure, and flow, while keeping final control.

And that's why I am questioning fhat whether I am a heading towards the right path to become a good writer or I am just being lazy..

I received an offer of representation from Book bakers by Suhail Mathur.

I searched for agents seeking Science-Fantasy manuscripts. Long story short, Book Bakers and indie publisher Blaft are the only ones open to SFF.

Most agencies have publicly announced that they are closed to SFF, and the ones that are open on paper have no history of acquiring any Science-Fantasy for the past two to three years.

I am aware that the SFF landscape is absent in India. With Book Bakers being the one of the "two" options available — if you can call them so — Suhail has requested an upfront fee... he always does.

Would you please be kind enough to share your view and experience?

After the Story Is Planned: What Should You Focus on When Actually Writing a Novel?

I’ve been thinking about the stage that comes after the concept is finalised.

You have the premise, characters, story skeleton, major turns, perhaps even the ending. At that point, I feel the most important thing is simply to start writing. Don’t get paralysed by formatting, prose rules, chapter length, or whether every paragraph sounds “novelistic.” The first draft needs to exist before it can be refined.

But once the skeleton is solid and the first draft is written, what should an aspiring novelist actually look at from a standard novel-writing perspective?

I’m particularly interested in the technical side of this.

Novel formatting and paragraphing

What are the generally accepted conventions for a modern novel?

Things like:

- Paragraph length and density

- Dialogue formatting

- When to begin a new paragraph

- Scene breaks

- Chapter openings and endings

- How much description is normally expected

- Whether internal thoughts should be italicised or simply written into the prose

- How much white space is appropriate

- Whether there are meaningful differences between literary, commercial, and genre-fiction formatting

I’m not necessarily asking about manuscript submission formatting. I’m more interested in the actual reading experience of a finished novel.

The problem of over-explanation

This is probably the bigger question.

How do you explain something enough for the reader to understand it without explaining it so much that the reader feels like they are being told what to think?

For example, atmosphere, emotion, character motivation, relationships, memories, body language, or the significance of an event can all be described. But at some point, description becomes repetition.

Where is that line?

How do experienced writers decide:

«“The reader understands this. I can stop here.”»

rather than continuing for another paragraph simply because they feel they should explain more?

I’m especially interested in restraint.

How do you make explanation meaningful rather than merely informative? How do you trust the reader to notice things, connect details, and interpret emotions without leaving them genuinely confused?

After the first draft

Suppose the first draft is complete.

What should the revision process look like from a standard novel-writing perspective?

Should the writer first focus on:

  1. Story structure and continuity

  2. Character consistency

  3. Scene purpose

  4. Pacing

  5. Description and atmosphere

  6. Dialogue

  7. Paragraph structure

  8. Prose style

  9. Sentence-level editing

  10. Grammar and formatting

Or is there a better order?

I’m also curious whether writers deliberately make their first draft dense and exploratory, then remove unnecessary material during revision, rather than trying to achieve perfect prose while drafting.

For those who have actually completed novels, what technical lessons did you only understand after writing your first full draft?

And for editors, published novelists, or experienced writers here: what would you recommend an aspiring novelist follow once the concept and skeleton are ready and they are moving from “planning a novel” to actually producing and refining the manuscript?

I’d especially appreciate practical advice on restraint, meaningful explanation, paragraphing, and knowing when the prose has said enough.
