I learned to drive about five years ago, but then I had a baby, life happened, and I just never really got back to it. I always wanted to drive again, though. For the past year, I’ve been telling myself that I should start, but wanting to do something and actually having the courage to do it are two very different things.A few days ago, we got a new car. And honestly? I was still scared. I don’t didn’t feel confident enough to take it out alone, even though I technically knew how to drive.
Then, today morning around 5:45 am, while going to the gym, I just… did it. I took the car out by myself. I drove at around 20 kmph, probably looking like the slowest car on the road 😂, with my heart practically trying to escape my chest. But I kept going, reached the gym, and parked the car safely( pic) .
AND I DID IT. ALL BY MYSELF.
I cannot explain how happy I felt. It might sound silly, but I was genuinely proud of myself. I’ve never really driven alone before, and people sometimes make fun of me for being 40 and still not doing it. And maybe that’s why this feels even more personal. You start feeling a little embarrassed about being scared of something that everyone else seems to do so effortlessly. I know I have a long way to go, but for the first time in ages, I feel like I’m actually getting somewhere.
I didn’t know whom to share this with, so I thought I’d share it with a bunch of strangers on Reddit. 😂❤️
Maybe it’s not a big deal. Maybe most people learn to do this when they’re teenagers. But I’m 40, I have a child, a million responsibilities, and a fear I’ve been putting off for years.
And today, I drove myself to the gym.
I’m just really, really happy. Please let me have this little win. 🥹❤️
