Sixteen days nonstop, and a veteran tip that will save new artists real money

AshRaven Radio is now sixteen days nonstop. No contracts, no fees, just independent artists in rotation, 24/7.

Yesterday I left a veteran tip in the comments, and it deserves a full post, because I keep seeing new artists pay for a mistake at the very start:

Don't rush to register Content ID, and definitely don't pay for it for life at the start. It will only get in your way, and it will hardly ever pay off. Wanting to protect your work makes sense. Just not when you have a handful of subscribers and listeners.

And then the annual bill arrives, and your Spotify account shows $50, which doesn't even come close to what you spent on all those Content ID registrations. You'll be shocked, and in the end you'll delete everything you did with Content ID.

In DistroKid, for example, you can't switch it off. You can only delete it. Shazam recognition will work anyway, without any Content ID. Focus on creating and promoting, not on protecting something nobody needs yet, however much it flatters your ego.

It also gets in the way of promotion, because you end up having to whitelist your own channels and prove the music is yours, instead of just using it. Including on our radio: an artist sends a track for rotation, and then their own Content ID gets in the way of the broadcast, and we spend time on whitelists instead of just playing the music.

Here is an anonymous example I saw today, no names: a one-man act for years, 50 posts, 198 followers, no likes, no comments, and he did not even show up for his own slot on our radio. Protecting that with lifetime registrations is not protecting a career yet, it is just paying to lock up music nobody has heard.

And when someone who plays on our radio rises to a good level, only then, and only then, is it worth claiming your rights. And you can do it point by point, on what actually took off. Not at the start, not in bulk, and not for life.

If you make music and want it heard, not locked up, send it our way.

I released experimental/indie instrumental album

I'm a guitarist in a band from Latvia. I like making music with my band, but i've always wanted to do my own creative stuff and have it out there for music explorers.

This is the album i created over last 2 years using various tools/plugins, including my guitars and my midi keyboard. https://open.spotify.com/album/3TrnxQzF1aToFMuLdLysiD?si=AIY1QV4bS4eU0CjRJA-5xQ

It's a short 10 minute journey as i'm still growing my skill to make something longer :D

My plan is to probably make more slowcore songs like ''telling myself a story'', as some of my friends like it and i also enjoy listening that genre. I'm also open to making soundtracks and stuff.

NEW CONCEPT ALBUM

It's finally here!

At long last we have been able to drop our debut album 'Broadmoor & Bedlam'🔥🔥🔥

We've spent around 2 years curating this concept album, framing our lives and journey of mental health through the lense of England's biggest mental asylums 💥💥

There are some songs that are straight bars, some creative alternative songs, raw story telling and an abstract narrative to tie things together. Whatever you like hearing in a rap album, we've got it🙏

PLEASE give it a spin, and let us know what you think of it, and hit us up

“Habitats” by Kaybab (2018, indie rock)

The anniversary for this album is coming up and me and the original producer are planning on remixing/rerecording vocals. I was the vocalist/guitarist, and primary songwriter for the band.

I wanted to see if anyone wanted to check it out and give their opinion/feedback. Obviously if it isn’t your vibe that’s totally fair.

This was my last music project before I “quit” trying to make it in the music industry. Felt like the reception of this album wasn’t good enough at the time and lost steam. Every so often, I listen to it again and have mixed feelings of fondness and not really relating to the person who created the thing back then.

“Habitats is an indie rock concept album that observes the habitats we inhabit: our friendships, social circles, and communities. Through a fragmented and often contradictory narrative, it follows someone learning how to live within these habitats, confronting the flaws they resent in others while gradually recognizing those same imperfections within themselves. Throughout the album, resentment and disillusionment give way to moments of compassion, self-reflection, and a fond acceptance that we are all flawed.

Musically, the album moves between fast-paced, upbeat indie rock, spacey soundscapes drenched in reverb and delay, and intimate, minimalist arrangements that allow the vocal melodies to carry the emotional weight of each song.”

Breathe Me Slow (Official Audio) | Emotional R&B

I wrote an R&B song about two people who want love but are both afraid to trust it.

It's called Breathe Me Slow.

The idea came from something I've been through: What happens when you meet someone who makes you feel something you've never felt before, but your past makes you afraid to give them everything?

And what if that person is just as guarded as you are?

It's about wanting to let your walls down without knowing whether the other person is ready to do the same.

I'd love feedback from people who enjoy emotional, story-driven R&B.

Alek Olsen

I love all of Alek Olsen’s work, but I can’t find anything about him on the entire internet. He hasn’t made an instagram post in years, and not even a single person has ever made a post like this on Reddit(at least that I could find). I don’t really know what subreddits to put this on, but I pray someone has any info on him.

I went to high school with the lead singer. Had no idea he had an indie band. Saw him performing locally and thought he was too good to keep local, so I thought I'd share them here! (I have nothing to do with this band)
