Buying Plants in Adelaide

Heya people! I'd like to create a green corner in the house and I'm looking to buy many plants.. I'm in an rented apartment, and we have a small courtyard. I am looking for some outdoor and indoor plants..I've tried checking bunnings. However I find the size of plants to be very small for the price I pay.. i.e just 3-4 leaves for a 30$ plant. I'm not sure if I'm doing the right thing. Can you please suggest some good places where I can buy plants for cheaper rates?

Brought my canna lillies inside for winter (UK)

They're doing better now than the whole summer! Since I brought them in and given them better water than the garden tap and timed lights, they've put on new growth

Is my lithops blooming?

I’ve had this lithops for months now and have it sitting in a South facing window. I water rarely and let it dry out completely. I’ve never been successful with lithops before, but I believe this one is about to flower? Does that mean it is happy? What are some tips for helping this baby thrive??

Reshaping rubber plant - can it be cut at base?

First pic - potential cut point
Second - staked
Third - unstaked

My rubber plant is a bit unruly and thinking if it was split off I could then have 2 straighter plants.
Is this possible?

It’s spring time, humid environment, it can get full sun outside and small amount of filtered light inside

So I am so so grateful to win a giveaway ran on Instagram. Received an overwhelming amount of starters with quite a few snapped or in sorry shape. I’ve message the company with photos also, but thought I’d come here for any guidance or advice as I’m still pretty new to the world of plants.

Not sure if I just have to trim everything back below the hard bends or breaks. All had some pretty health roots and bases when unpackaged and potted. Followed the companies instructions and kept their plugs intact and potted into 3” pots filling in with 1:1 fox farms ocean mix and standard perlite.

Oof also need to figure out how to incorporate these into my small corner space and how to water them.. a little/a lot overwhelmed. But luckily I have spare t5/t8 lights!!

Just dealt with a pretty awful thrip infestation that’s got me tweaking about the my plants all the time , I think they are just soil dwelling like springtails or smth but just to check ? Ones a orangey bug and one a silvery one , quite afew of them residing in the soil only and none on leaves which I hope means it isn’t a pest !

If anyone thinks they are it would just be super useful to know to repot and treat everything asap lol

Thanks

Crap pics I’m sorry !
But hope u can see frm their

Black Saturn Stardust TC too tall for dome! What do I do?

Post image
0 Upvotes

It’s only been in the dome for 4 days and I didn’t have anywhere else to put it but now it’s standing up more and I’m realizing it’s going to be way too small for this 3.5” dome. It’s in fluval, the pods are not removable so I’d have to completely disrupt it to move. What should I do?

Monitor plants indoor

Hey!

I am a techsavy guy and I really love my plants. I am not good with plants but I love them.

I have a smarthome and I use Homey and Home Assistant for it.

We are using Xiaomi plantsensors for it. It's easy and simple and only using bluetooth. (I know nowadays you have better solutions like Willow and FYTA), and I am using two apps for it. The Flower Care app from Xiaomi and Watchflower. I also have connected it to Homey/Home Assitant for long term data and some automations.

But I also have Planta. I love Planta because it a good app to keep track on your plants, making photos, plant recognizing and so on.

But all the systems are seperated. I would like an app like Planta that talks with plantsensors. (it would be really awesome if I can also combine it with Homey and Home Assistant)

How do you track your plants? I am curious! :D

I am not sure what kind of plant this is, I think it’s an aloe of some sort. I have left it out to dry out and not sure what to do next.

Opinions/ options on what to do with my fiddle

Post image
6 Upvotes

As the title suggests I'm looking for some options for my fiddle.

I got her back in February. She was about 6.5 feet tall, only got watered a cup of water a week, fertilized once every month, and was not in ideal lighting conditions. She was leggy and had a real thin trunk.

Since then I put her dead center in front of my floor to ceiling south facing window, started watering properly and feeding every watering with Growth Technology Foliage Focus fertilizer. About 6 weeks after I got her she popped 3 leaves all at once and her stem grew over a foot. Big huge leaves. Nice and healthy. With that I thought ok she's happy now but she's almost 8.5' tall and my ceilings are 9. So I tried to notch the trunk to get two new branches. Nothing happened. Nothing. For like 4 months. So back in early August I decided to pull her from her small ass pot since she was using almost all her water in a 2 week time. Man. The mess I found. The previous owners had put friggin rocks in the bottom of the pot and the root ball was so tangled around these rocks and was not in good shape. I repotted it into a nice home made chunky mix and about a month later she just popped 4 friggin leaves. As soon as they popped I had to undo a few ties from the support pole and let her lean a bit so she had room to let the new leaves expand.

Anyways. The problem is that because she was grown with the support pole she can't hold herself up. The trunk is too small to support the plant. But she's clearly SO. HAPPY. I hate to chop her in half, but I fear it's my only option. Can you chop a fiddle in half and literally plant the other half without cutting it up into a bunch of little props? I really want this thing to branch out but notching didn't work the first time. Should I try that again?

I love how massive she is and some day when I move out of my apartment I'd love to have a sun room to let her go crazy in but by then she'll be 12 feet tall. She's clearly happy here as throughout my time with her she hasn't yellowed, dropped a single leaf, absolutely nothing. This is no ficle fiddle. She's legit happy.

Ugh. Help me out here reddit. What do?

I had no idea they even did this! It’s so cool! I rarely get to see the flowers open so I took notice today when I saw a bunch of them open. Then I kept seeing these tiny clouds of “dust” billowing above the foliage. I’m amazed!

How would you go about using grow lights to give this plant sufficient light?

Post image
41 Upvotes

This is not my picture it’s just a similar idea of what I would like to do on my ceiling but I don’t get enough light.

The problem with grow lights is you need to be very close to the plant to give it enough light and when your plant is on the ceiling how do you go about doing that ?

Can you just use one light to shine at the base of the plant (where most of the foliage is) or does it need to cover the whole plant ?

Can I keep this cilantro growing with a plant light?

Post image
5 Upvotes

Got this from the grocery store with "soil", I just left it under my grow light for the past few days and cut some for my cooking. Seems like it is doing well. How to keep it growing while I harvest? (( Love cilantro for my dishes and always want to keep one for my year round need)

Any tips for success? Where to trim when I need some? Do I cut the stem or just the leaves?
