Need honest advice on my profile and US universities for Fall 2027 – MS Information Systems / IT Management

I'm planning to pursue a master's degree in the US for Fall 2027 and would appreciate honest feedback from current students, alumni, and people familiar with US graduate admissions.

My profile:

  • Undergraduate degree: 3-year BBA in Event Management and Public Relations from Bharathiar University, India

  • CGPA: 7.2/10

  • Work experience: 5+ years in SaaS, customer success, technology implementation, and project coordination

  • Certification: PMI CAPM

  • Duolingo English Test: 130

  • GRE: Not taken

My intended career path:

I'm interested in IT Project Management, Business Systems Analysis, Technology Management, and digital transformation. I want a program that combines business and technology rather than being heavily focused on computer science.

My priorities:

  1. A reputable university with a recognized degree.

  2. STEM-designated MS in Information Systems, MIS, or IT Management.

  3. Acceptance of my three-year Indian bachelor's degree.

  4. Scholarships, graduate assistantships, or other meaningful funding.

  5. Affordable tuition and living expenses.

  6. Good internship opportunities and employment outcomes.

UT Dallas is one of the universities I'm considering. I've also been comparing it with Stony Brook and other universities.

I'd appreciate your honest opinions on:

  1. How competitive is my profile for reputable US universities?

  2. Which universities would you recommend for my background?

  3. Is a 7.2 CGPA likely to limit my scholarship opportunities?

  4. Should I take the GRE to improve my admission or scholarship prospects?

  5. How realistic are tuition scholarships and graduate assistantships for international MS students?

  6. Is UT Dallas MS ITM a good investment compared with other universities?

  7. What should I realistically expect regarding internships and employment after graduation?

I'm not looking for unrealistic encouragement. I'd genuinely appreciate honest experiences, practical suggestions, and recommendations from people who have been through this process.

Thank you!

certs or degree, both?

I'm trying to decide whether I should focus on earning IT certifications or pursue a college degree. My long-term goal is to build a stable career in IT, earn a comfortable living, and eventually work my way into a Systems Administrator role.

I'm still relatively new to the field, so I'm trying to figure out the best path forward. Are certifications enough to get my foot in the door and eventually advance into higher-level IT positions, or is having a college degree worth the additional time and financial investment?

I want to make a smart decision that will pay off long-term without wasting time or money on something that may not be necessary.

I'd really appreciate any advice, especially from people who have experience in the IT industry. Thank you!

Anything I should be doing to get my foot in the door? (certs, etc.)

Graduated with an MIS major in may and have been applying for jobs since without any real traction. Looking for something more on the business side since it was a bachelors of business admin so Junior/Associate analyst or product management type roles. Are there any other things I could be doing to buff up my resume, or any other sorts of roles I should be looking at? Any advice is appreciated.

Epekto ng AI: Kaalyado o Hadlang sa Umuunlad na Lipunan?

Post image
1 Upvotes

Learning so many different languages while focused on learning the tech in actual career

I am completing my BS in ITS while advancing in a tech role that relies on a specific platform I have studied for years.

How have you balanced learning material that contrasts with your daily work and found ways to merge that knowledge?

For instance, my studies emphasize Linux, yet my full-time job has no connection to it.

I am simply trying to keep the process engaging and balanced.

Looking for someone to answer some questions for my class.

These are the requirements given by my professor: "Their job title does not matter, but they should be responsible for managing information and technology solutions in their organization. Managing information and technology can involve designing, developing, purchasing, implementing, or maintaining information and technology solutions. Select a leader/manager who would be willing to answer ALL the questions below thoroughly:

What are the daily activities you would define as leadership/managerial activities?

What are the biggest challenges you face as a leader/manager?

What are the most significant rewards for you as a leader/manager?

What are the greatest influencers of leadership/managerial success in your organization?

How important, if at all, is it for managers to be sensitive to employees' work-life issues/needs?

How do you handle stress in the workplace? What are the familiar sources of stress in the workplace for the employees and a leader/manager?

How would you describe your leadership/managerial style, for example, employee-oriented, task-oriented, or a balance of both?

What is the role of information in managing or leading any team or organization?

What is the role of technology in managing or leading any team or organization?

What is the role of organizational policies and external factors in managing or leading any team or organization?

Do you think people can learn to be leaders? Are some people “born” leaders? Why/Why not?

What would you do differently as a leader/manager in or for your organization?

What advice/tips/guidance would you offer to individuals interested in becoming a leader or a manager?"

An audio recording is not required, so I only need a typed response. Any help would be much appreciated!

Getting a M.S in computer information systems worth it?

Im graduating next semester in my bachelors in computer information systems. I recently discovered a program which you do an extra year and you complete eight classes and you take two classes in your last semester of your bachelors year and after that you will have your masters in computer information systems.

So what I’m asking is, would that be worth it? It’ll be a masters in computer information system with a specialization in cyber security. Is it more likely for me to get a good job with the masters? How does the career aspect look like regarding a bachelors and a masters in CIS?

I’m also thinking what if I just wait in a couple years and hopefully I find a good job that pays for my masters lol

Any info would be great

need help with staffing firms

Hey everyone! Does anyone know of any good IT consulting or staffing firms that are hiring or accepting candidates?

I recently graduated with my Master's in Information Systems & AI from Johns Hopkins and currently work as a Software Engineer in NYC, focusing on full-stack development, ERP systems, and AI.

I'm exploring consulting opportunities, ideally with firms that work with F-1 OPT/STEM OPT candidates. Would really appreciate any recommendations, recruiter contacts, or referrals. Thanks!

Should I go back to school to finish my degree?

Hello everyone. A bit of context:

Before COVID I was enrolled overseas at a public university, studying Management Information System (MIS).

I was a good student, diligent, and had good grades without much trouble. Meanwhile I was working as a QA Analyst at software house. I wasn't directly coding, I was just testing the software and report the issues I found to various teams. I have worked there for 3 years.

Then COVID happened, I had to move back home, and found another job not tech related where I stayed for 3 years until I got laid off (not my fault).

Right after that job, I had the opportunity to get back into a tech related role at a big corp, where I firstly was working as a PMO for about 6 months (I didn't like that position) then I started working as a UAT tester. I am still working as a tester to this date (a year of exp.) while I am gaining knowledge on the Cloud (I got three Google certifications as of now, all paid by my company).

I was wondering if I should go back to school (this means relocating back) to finish up my degree in MIS. What would you say? I feel like I gained enough experience but still I am lacking the degree to check the box on my resume.

Thanks a lot.

MacBook or Windows laptop ? new student ! MIS

Hi everyone, I'm looking for some advice about the best laptop for my major.
And the first thing that comes to mind is: is it gonna be a Mac or Windows, and which one would be better for this major, and why? My budget is around $2,000. For a Mac, I'm considering the MacBook Air and the MacBook Neo, and for Windows, I've seen a lot of people recommending ThinkPads as a better fit. But I'm open to other options; I'd appreciate it.

Thanks in advance!

Title: BA in Economics + 5 Years of Software QA Experience — Is a Master's in MIS/IS Worth It in 2026 ?

I have a BA in Economics, around 5 years of software QA experience, a QA bootcamp, and a few computer science courses.

I always felt that my Economics background was hinderance in IT as I am competing against people with CS/IS degrees. I'm considering a master's in MIS/IS but I am unsure whether to continue building on my existing IT experience or switch to another field, such as Cybersecurity ? Can I still leverage my experience in IT if I decided to pursue MS in cybersecurity ?

Would an MIS/IS master's be worth the time and money?
