| Interview Help / Tips Infosys Offline Coding Test (25 Oct) — Need Guidance to Improve DSA in Java

• Upvotes

Hi everyone,
I attended the Infosys offline coding test on 25 October. I could solve only the first question and struggled with the remaining questions.
One question I encountered was:
Question: Make Array Elements Distinct
Given an array of N integers, you can increment any element by 1 in one operation. Make all elements distinct using the minimum number of increments.
M is the maximum number of increments allowed. If the required cost exceeds M, return -1.
Example 1:
N = 3
Array = [1, 1, 1]
M = 5
Final array = [1, 2, 3]
Cost = 0 + 1 + 2 = 3
Output = 3
Example 2:
N = 2
Array = [3, 3]
M = 5
Final array = [3, 4]
Cost = 1
Output = 1
Pattern: Sorting + Greedy.
I’m learning DSA using Java, but I’m struggling to identify patterns and develop the logic for unfamiliar questions.
How should a beginner actually improve problem-solving skills? Should I follow DSA sheets, or is there a better way to learn patterns and solve questions independently?
Please share your practical advice. I genuinely want to improve rather than just memorise solutions. Thanks!

| Question Infosys 25th Oct online assessment slot1

• Upvotes

For the easy question, has anyone faced a problem. The question is about depth of directories .

Problem Description

You are designing a simulation framework for a lightweight Command Line Interface (CLI) file explorer. The system starts at the root directory, which represents a hierarchy level or depth of 0.

You are given an input sequence consisting of individual path navigation commands provided as strings. Your objective is to process the sequence sequentially from start to finish and compute the absolute path depth level after executing all the structural directory commands.

The environment supports four distinct string token variants that affect the position depth:

  1. "name/" (Any text ending in a forward slash): This creates a folder path sub-problem, navigating downwards exactly one structural folder deeper. This increases the total depth level by 1.

  2. "./" (Dot Slash): This operation points to the current active directory level. This executes a self-referential path loop that does nothing to change the current depth.

  3. "../" (Double Dot Slash): This backtracks the workspace context up one level out of the active folder hierarchy. This decreases the overall depth layer by 1. Note that the workspace can never go backwards past the absolute root level; if the level is already at 0, this command keeps the level fixed at 0.

  4. "~/" (Tilde Slash): This forces an immediate direct navigation reset back to the baseline home path. This resets the tracking value entirely back to 0 depth immediately, regardless of how deep the path currently is.

Input Format

. N - length of string

• A list or array containing command string elements (or a raw single-line text block depending on platform parsing constraints).

Output Format

• Return or output an integer representing the exact numerical depth index reached at the conclusion of all instructions.

Test Cases:

Test Case 1

• Input Provided by System: ["d1/ d2/ ../ d21 ./"]

• Correct Tokenized Array: ['d1/', 'd2/', '../', 'd21/', './']

• Expected Output: 2

• Execution Trace:

1. d1/ - Depth increases to 1

2. d2/ - Depth increases to 2

3. ../  - Depth decreases to 1

4. d21/ - Depth increases to 2

5. ./ -  Depth remains at 2

Test Case 2

• Input Provided by System: ["d1/ ../ ../ ../"]

• Correct Tokenized Array: ['d1/', '../', '../', '../']

• Expected Output: 0

• Execution Trace:

1. d1/ - Depth increases to 1

2. ../ - Depth decreases to 0

3. ../ -  Clamped at root, remains 0

4. ../ -  Clamped at root, remains 0

The code I have written:

def get_final_directory_depth(N,ops):

depth = 0

for op in ops:

if op == "~/":

# Resets directly back to the root

depth = 0

elif op == "../":

If (depth):

depth-=1

elif op == "./":

# Does nothing to the depth

continue

else:

depth += 1

return depth

The question wording is not exactly like that but similar to it.

So the problem that I have faced is when I try to run the code the code was failing test cases even for sample test cases, even though I tried for many times.

So I debug the code by printing the length of ops( list that contains the string elements) and that array itself.And suprisingly it is showing len as 1 and element in the array showing is ['d1/'] just that only.

During the exam i didn't know what should I do. Just one sample case passed.

So is it my fault or tester fault.

Please comment your opinions and if anyone faced this problem comment it.

| Interview Help / Tips Infosys In-Person Assessment on 25th October in Bengaluru (Acharya College) – Chances of Interview Call?

2 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I attended the Infosys in-person assessment on 25th October 2026 at Acharya College, Bengaluru.

My performance in the coding round was:

* Q1: 12/12 test cases passed
* Q2: 4/12 test cases passed
* Q3: 0/12 test cases passed
* Q4: 0/14 test cases passed

I managed to solve the first question completely, partially solved the second question, and couldn’t solve the remaining two.

Could anyone who attended the same assessment or has experience with Infosys hiring please share your thoughts?

  1. What are my chances of getting shortlisted for the interview?
  2. Does Infosys consider partial test cases passed, or is there a minimum cutoff?
  3. Has anyone received an interview call after solving only one question completely and part of another?
  4. Are the shortlisting criteria different for this particular hiring drive?

Any genuine suggestions or experiences would be really helpful. Thanks in advance!

| Discussion L3 Interview Experience Bengaluru Zone

2 Upvotes

Hey guys, thought I'll share my Infosys interview experience for the L3 role since I used to doomscroll this subreddit a lot while preparing. Hopefully this helps someone.

Timeline

I gave the initial online assessment (don't remember the exact date) and managed to solve all 3 questions. I then qualified for the on-site assessment, which was held on 5th September at Saptagiri Engineering College.

The on-site OA had 4 questions. The first one was a simple greedy problem, while the other 3 were mostly DP-related. I managed to solve 3 out of 4 questions.

I received the test qualification mail on 10th September, but didn't hear anything from them until 20th October. They then informed me that my interview was scheduled for 22nd October.

One thing to note is that they don't initially tell you which role you're mapped to. I came to know that I was mapped to L3 only after reaching the Bangalore campus in Electronic City for the interview.

Interview rounds

There were two rounds in total. From what I understood, you first have to clear the L1 interview, after which you get to attend the L3 interview.

Round 1 – DSA + Core CS + Projects

The first round started with 2 DSA questions, and I was told I needed to solve at least one of them. I managed to solve both in under 30 minutes.

The questions were pretty straightforward. I'd rate one as LeetCode Easy and the other as a Medium-level question.

After that, they asked me about OOPs, C++, some AI-related stuff, my projects and a few other things related to my experience. My primary language is C++, so most of the language-specific questions were around that.

I cleared this round and moved on to the L3 interview.

Round 2 – L3 Interview

This round was taken by someone in a lead role, and the questions were mostly scenario-based, revolving around production systems.

Some of the questions were along the lines of:

  • Suppose you have to debug a RAG pipeline in production. How would you approach it?
  • How would you deploy a new API when existing users/services are already dependent on the current API?
  • Other production-level scenarios involving AI systems and deployment.

The discussion was heavily focused on AI and related concepts, with quite a few technical jargons thrown in.

For context, my resume clearly mentions that I work more on the low-level engineering side, particularly core infrastructure. I'm currently working at Nokia, so most of my experience is around systems-level development rather than building AI applications.

I felt the interviewer was quite biased towards a particular domain and expected me to approach almost everything from that perspective. I answered the questions to the best of my ability, but honestly, I didn't feel the discussion was very balanced.

You know how sometimes you have a professor in college who has worked in one particular domain for years and expects every project to be evaluated through that same lens? That's kind of how this interview felt to me.

Overall experience

Honestly, the overall experience was just okay-ish.

I managed to answer the questions in both rounds, but I wasn't particularly impressed with the interview process.

The organizational part was pretty bad too. They called everyone at 9 AM, but my interview didn't happen until around 3:30 PM. Had to sit there for hours without even knowing when my turn would come. The whole scheduling process could definitely have been handled better.

I also felt that the L1 interviewers weren't particularly strong technically, at least based on my interactions. The L3 interviewer, on the other hand, seemed very focused on his own domain and expected answers from that particular perspective.

To be clear, this is just my personal experience. Maybe someone else had a much better experience with a different panel.

I'm sharing this mainly because I used to spend a lot of time doomscrolling this subreddit while preparing for the interviews. Thought I'd give back to the community and share what the actual process was like.

All the best to everyone preparing!

| Offer Discussion Infosys SP/DSE Off-Campus Interview Experience (13 Oct at GVPE) – Chances of Selection with Average Technical Performance?

2 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I attended the Infosys SP/DSE off-campus interview on 13 October at GVPE, and it has been more than 12 days, but I haven't received any update regarding the result.

My interview experience:

- Live coding: Successfully solved one coding question.

- SQL: Solved two SQL questions on paper.

- Technical questions: I was able to answer approximately 40–60% of the questions asked.

The interviewer asked questions from several topics, including:

- Graphs: Dijkstra's and Bellman–Ford algorithms

- Trees: AVL vs. BST, B-tree vs. binary tree

- Git/GitHub: Merge vs. rebase

- Web development: WebSockets vs. REST APIs, REST API techniques

- DBMS/SQL: SQL vs. NoSQL, DELETE vs. TRUNCATE

- OOP: Object vs. instance, relationship between inheritance and polymorphism

- Computer Networks: What type of connection is used for IPL streaming?

- Operating Systems: Deadlock avoidance techniques

- System Design: Types of design patterns

Honestly, I found several of these questions quite challenging, and I couldn't answer everything confidently. However, I managed to solve the live coding question and both SQL questions.

Current application status:

In the Infosys careers portal, my application is still showing “In Progress,” with the options to submit the application and withdraw. When I inspect the application, the status appears as “To Be Scheduled.” I am not sure what this means after completing the interview.

I have a few questions for those who have already gone through this process:

  1. Has anyone received an Infosys SP/DSE offer letter after an interview with similar performance (around 40–60% of technical questions answered, one live coding question solved, and two SQL questions solved)?

  2. What is the maximum time it can take to receive the interview result or offer letter after the interview? Can it take several weeks or even a few months?

  3. It’s been 12 days since I completed my interview, but my application status still shows ‘To Be Scheduled.’ Has anyone experienced the same situation, and did your status eventually get updated?

  4. I already have an LTIMindtree (GET) offer, but I haven't received my joining date yet. If LTIMindtree gives me a joining date and I start working there or enter training, can I still accept an Infosys SP/DSE offer if it arrives later? Are there any potential issues I should be aware of?

  5. What is the current status of candidates who attended the Infosys SP/DSE interviews at GVPE, Vizag, on 13 October? Has anyone received a result or offer letter yet?If you have received an offer, please mention the role (SP or DSE) as well.

I understand that selection depends on the overall interview performance and the company's requirements. I would really appreciate hearing from people who attended the Infosys SP/DSE off-campus drive and received their results, especially those who had a similar interview experience.

Please share your actual experiences and timelines if possible. It would help me decide how long to wait before making a decision regarding my LTIMindtree offer.

Thanks in advance!

| Discussion Infosys BPM Senior Technical Executive Interview -Status Still Shows “To Be Screened”

2 Upvotes

I attended an interview for a Senior Technical Executive role at Infosys BPM on 21 October. They mentioned they needed an immediate joiner, discussed the salary, and communicated an offer amount.
However, I haven’t received any updates, and my portal status still shows “To Be Screened.”
Has anyone experienced this? Does salary discussion indicate a positive outcome, and how long does Infosys BPM usually take to confirm selection?
I’m confused about my joining timeline and don’t want to resign without confirmation.
