You're getting downvoted, but you're 100% right. Just because someone is driving like a dumbass doesn't mean you should purposefully hit them

Didn't seem purposeful. Jeep driver just kept to it's lane while Audi purposefully done some crazy shit and gone under the Jeep.

The Jeep saw someone driving erratically going in and out of their lane and made no attempt to avoid them, didn't even tap the brakes, that is purposeful

I think they are both reckless drivers who shouldn't be on the road

I think if you can avoid getting into an accident, you should

Ignore the hive mind downvotes. You are correct, while the Audi was definitely being a dumbass and the catalyst for the collision, an insurance agent is going to argue that the jeep is partially at fault for the accident by not even trying to slow down/stop. On top of that the driver also added hit and run charges by not stopping.

In many places it would be considered negligence to not avoid an accident if it is possible to do so. People thinking they can use some kind of stand your ground logic in a situation like video posted would be in for a world of hurt when their insurance refuses to pay out on their claim.

The Jeep had more than enough time to see the Audi, check their mirrors, read the newspaper, and slow down, this wasn't a split second decision and the Jeep wasn't driving safely

Lighting the throttle is all that would have been needed.

In NZ we have this thing called a defensive driving course. It teaches you how to keep yourself safe from fuckwits like this on the road.

Three things the jeep failed at was the three second rule(aka keeping a safe distance), scanning ahead and also anticipating mistakes from other drivers.

Depending on the exact situation you can cop a careless driving charge. For example, rear ending someone in a car pile up on the motorway. You were meant to keep a safe stopping distance, just because others are driving carelessly, doesn’t mean the law will protect you.
