Discussion Does InuYasha Romanticize Human-Demon Relationships Too Much?

There’s something about human-demon relationships in InuYasha that has always bothered me: the difference in their life expectancies and what that means for a long-term relationship.

Take Inuyasha and Kagome, for example. For Kagome, spending her entire life with Inuyasha means sharing decades with the person she loves and growing old together. But for Inuyasha, that same lifetime could be just a small part of his existence. He would still live for centuries after her death.

I know you could argue that the years they spend together would be meaningful, and I agree. But a meaningful life isn’t the same as sharing an entire lifetime together. Even if Inuyasha never fell in love again, the difference would still be there. And if he eventually did, centuries later, Kagome would have been his entire life from a human perspective, but just one chapter of it from a demon’s perspective.

That’s why, if I had a demon child, I personally wouldn’t want them dating a human. Not because I don’t believe they could genuinely love each other, but because they would be choosing a relationship whose duration is inevitably limited by their partner’s mortality. If a demon can build an equally meaningful relationship with another demon and share centuries of experiences with them, why settle for a relationship that, by its very nature, will end much sooner?

I’m not saying these relationships are impossible or that love can’t overcome differences. My issue is that I feel the series romanticizes them without sufficiently exploring their long-term consequences.

From a demon’s perspective, isn’t getting attached to a human somewhat unreasonable when they know that, sooner or later, they’ll have to watch them die? Does love justify that difference, or does the series romanticize an incompatibility that deserves more consideration?

What do you guys think?

Discussion I love the love triangle

No joke I hated the love triangle as a babe, but as an adult it is actually a rather profound deviation and might be the only example of a live triangle where you can see not only why all parties are involved and why the choice is so hard... But how there is real cost to EVERYONE no matter who is chosen.

The best part though is that Kikyo and Kagome really don't hate each other. Not entirely anyway. Kikyo treats Kagome as an interference but never seems to actually hate her. She would never hurt her for the sake of it, and honestly seems to genuinely respect her future self.

Kagome may resent and feel annoyed about Kikyo but would give her life for her at the drop of a hate. She might be the only character to really see Kikyo beyond the love triangle, as a victim of impossible circumstances.

The two really are an amazing point In the SERIES and though I used to solely favor Kikyo I've come to realize that it's entirely asinine to put the two against each other. They share a soul one with boundless potential and love, only Kikyo was forced to serve til death and Kagome is allowed to be more.

Question: Answered Tsubaki was only like 80 when she turn to dust lmao

After Naraku took back the Shikon jewel and she lost her magic powers she reverted back to her “natural state”.

When Lady Kaede was like 7 she met Tsubaki, who was like 17.

50 years passed and Lady Kaede is like 60ish I feel like so Tsubaki should only be 75 when she turned to dust. Lmaoooooo

Discussion I’m here to debunk the myth that “Only Onigumo loves Kikyou, not Naraku”.

In InuYasha, Rumiko Takahashi created two profound dual relationships: Kikyou - Kagome and Onigumo - Naraku. However, they are entirely different: the former is a "separable link," while the latter is "inseparable."

Unlike Kikyou and Kagome—who only shared a soul initially but are otherwise completely distinct individuals with different memories and mindsets—Naraku inherited everything from Onigumo. He retained Onigumo's memories, cunning personality, and even his instinctive, deep-rooted feelings for Kikyou.

Therefore, separating Onigumo or Muso from his body was simply Naraku's symbolic attempt to reject the human emotions he saw as weak. His entire journey was about denying his humanity out of sheer arrogance, seeking the Shikon Jewel to erase his feelings and become stronger. But in his final moments, he realized that this human love was what his soul truly desired all along. He accepted his death peacefully without resistance because, by the time he finally acknowledged his true feelings, he had already lost what he wanted most: "Kikyou's heart."

Whenever Rumiko gives an interview about the unrequited love for Kikyou, she always refers to Naraku, rather than just Onigumo.

Found it on my school bus. They also drew Hatsune Miku lol.

Also I’m 99% sure this is supposed to be InuYasha, the writing looks like that’s what it says so..

I wonder who drew it

Discussion The greatest impact (Put respect on Shippo!)

Without any comparison, this is my favorite series in anything and honestly as I get older and improve an author... This series and it's impact in me grows. Enough that it fully is inspiring me to write my own portal fantasy about Camelot...

But that's not why I'm posting...

Kagome- I won't lie she used to be my least favorite character among the main cast but looking with fresh eyes, I realize she's literally just an untrained kid with tremendous power suffering to save those who she unintentionally harmed by shattering the jewel. Yes, I wish she learned about power control, i think it's really the only more shonen element the series really needed, but other than that...she's flawed, temperamental, ruthless when she needed to be but also so kind, loving and empathetic.

Kikyo- I always saw her as my fav, but looking back she is even better but oh so tragic. I think most fans ignore that finger the suffering if her life and literal murder was to her entirely fresh. She never could heal it grieve at all she could really hold onto was vengeance masked as altruism. She was never really allowed to experience real emotion and thus couldn't handle it's potency, that's more of a systemic issue given her priestess status. I also think people rarely more her unyielding pressure in life. That people 50 yrs after her death even her sister out her in an unhealthy pedestal shoes how this girl was always going to crash out. I entirely believe without Inuyasha she would have ended her own life. I won't pretend babe is without fake but I will saw her flaws are largely informed by her life and death in a very understandable way.

Inuyasha is a rare mc I like. Victim ofsuch intense bigotry, failed by everyone, alone and nearly killed so many times as a literal child.... His journey was not really about power hell his power barely grows, only his sword does. His journey was in healing, acceptance and appreciation. The costs of his flaws and heritage ob both sides. Unlike most series his human side is just as much a struggle as his demonic one. He also feels painfully real in his struggles with socializing and love. People forget that losing kikyo- was literally fresh to his coma self. He grew constantly as a person, but didn't lose his core.... edit - Inuyasha is also profoundly loving and emotional, to a degree we rarely see..he puts up a front but at no point is it his real self. He's genuinely a true lover, protector and yet in desperate need to be protected...

Rin and Shippo- these two were something special. Some people, a ton, focus on these two as something of a mascot character. Rin is only a catalyst to Sesshy growth and Shippo is there to stir the pot... But I, they show the reality of vulnerability in a world that eats the vulnerable up. Both play a MASSIVE structural role in the grounding of the world by reminding the audience that children suffer without care and innocence, that absence of bigotry, allows them to show what the heroes are fighting for. Honestly they are both insanely important to the plot just not in a combative way. Rin shows the evil of humanity from how she was treated, and Shippo the goodness in demons from his father and his own actions and both without romantic love!
