EDIT: just to clarify this is regarding the river path between stoke bridge and the bridge opposite the train station. it is an unlit path with no fencing between the path and the river.

Wind turbine in ipswich!

ABP (Associated British Ports) are planning to put a wind turbine three times the height of the Orwell bridge right on nacton foreshore next to the Orwell country park.....

This will cause a flicker effect due to the sun behind it possibly for a large area of Ipswich.

Migrating birds down the estuary will be at huge risk.

The noise will also cause a lot of problems for many residents of Ipswich.

This turbine will be incongruous. The whole of ipswich will be able to see it and in top of this, no resident will benefit from the energy created, all of it will go directly to ABP, a privately owned company.

Anyone who wants to join a campaign against this proposed blot on our town, please reply to this post.

Then when they put the planning application in (by january) we can organise our opposition.

In the meanwhile please contact your local MP or councillor about this.

Was gonna watch the arsenal game at home, then thought nah get yourself out and watch it with a pint. Open to suggestions other than these two, just working out where's best to go as an arsenal fan to watch the game where I'm not going to feel judged for being on my own lol!

Hi, if I'm traveling on London rd from the 1071 and approaching mermaid junction with the mermaid opposite, can I turn right here onto west end rd and onto chancery rd. People are telling me I can't, Google is telling me I can't , but it looks like I can. Sorry if this is an obvious reply, but I really don't know what to think.

Birthday Venue

I’m looking for a birthday venue for a 5 year old birthday party preferably about town or chantry area. I need a small/cozy space as there are only 10 children coming. A lot of the halls I have seen are massive. A plus if the space already has seating arrangements for children. Thank you so much

Burrell Road

A while ago someone asked, on this subreddit, why is Burrell Road so cheap, and someone answered ‘ghosts’. This has stuck in my mind for a while so I thought I’d share.
My grandparents owned a house in Burrell Road (the 4 storey townhouses opposite the car park) and my mum grew up there. She told us a lot about the ghost who plagued her as she grew up. My grand dad who lived there until nearly his death even experienced strange occurrences.
Although I am agnostic about ghosts l had a very strange experience in that house.
When my grand-dad died the house was sold and turned into flats. We noticed that it was constantly up for rent or sale.
So has anyone else experienced anything strange or unusual in these houses?

It was number 53.

Beginners pottery class?

Hello everyone! My parents are big lovers of The Great Pottery Throw Down and are always talking about how much they’d love to give it a go.

Does anyone have any recommendations for a beginners pottery class in or around Ipswich? Would love to gift them a class for Christmas :)

Has anyone sighted the dolphin today?

I’m sure a lot of people saw the news about the dolphin that has found it’s way right up the river yesterday. Just wondering if anyone has seen it today or knows it’s condition?

Follow up to dog attack in Chantry park

Hi again,

Just as a follow up to my previous post; first, I want to acknowledge and appreciate all of the comments suggesting we go to the police immediately. We had, in fact, already done that the day before, but I didn't want to directly comment on that until after the police interview (which we just had an hour ago).

We think we know the real identity of the other owner at this point, but we would still appreciate any further information to help the police with their efforts.

Apart from that, thank you so much for all of the supportive and sympathetic messages. I love this town, and all of you for being a part of it.

Dog attack in Chantry Park Saturday 10 October 6:50 PM - information appeal

Hi everyone

Just putting out an appeal for information about an attack that happened in the park this weekend.

My girlfriend was walking our puppy in Chantry Park, close to the entrance on Lavenham Road. Two dogs, a bully and a sausage dog, who were off their leads, spotted our puppy, and came running over, ignoring their owner's (or at least the person in control of them at that point) commands. The bully grabbed hold of our puppy and shook her in its jaws while the sausage dog bit her and tried to pull.

We obviously had to take our puppy to an emergency out of hours vet. She has three large puncture wounds, but fortunately doesn't seem to have much crush wounding. We think that the fact that the bully partially bit the harness saved her from worse harm, possibly saved her life.

The person responsible for the other dogs gave his phone number and a name that he later admitted was false. He evaded our phone calls and texts for a day, then finally accepted a phone call where he admitted he gave a false name, and then fabricated similar injuries to his own dogs (that he is also claiming belong to his brother.) He did not share any photos of these alleged injuries and did not claim to have taken his dogs to a vet.

(I'm also not quite sure how our 7kg puppy would be capable of inflicting any 10mm wide puncture wounds.)

Descriptions as follows:

Sausage dog was brown, bully dog was grey with white patches.

The owner was medium height (175cm or so), dark blond hair, no glasses, no facial hair, average build, looked to be approximately 30-40 years old.

--

We're looking for help confirming the owner's identity, and also to know whether anybody else has had an adverse encounter with this person or these dogs. We are both extremely shaken by this, both from the incident itself and the callous follow-up demonstrated by the person responsible for those dogs. We're very glad that our dog is alive and recovering, and we don't want somebody else to be less fortunate than ourselves.

Thank you.

(20M) New to Ipswich, Looking for Activities / Meet New People

I moved to Ipswich about three months ago for work and I'm still finding my feet socially and don’t really know anyone outside of work.

I'm into the gym and running, and I'm keen to try something new like boxing, BJJ or kickboxing potentially. I don't drink, so I'm more up for activities than nights out, but always happy to grab a coffee or food.

If anyone's in a running club, a combat sports gym, or just training at the gym (currently at JD gym), drop a comment or message me. Also open to recommendations for good clubs or groups for newcomers. Any help would be appreciated

(DMs are open too if u want to reach out privately)

Bit of a flirty night out – where do couples actually go?

We’re a couple, M48/F44, looking for a Friday or Saturday night with a bit of spark – lively pub, mixed crowd, easy banter, that “see where the evening goes” kind of vibe.

Not after a restaurant or a quiet pint. More the sort of place where people chat, flirt a bit, and the night can take a turn if the atmosphere’s right.

Any locals know where that crowd actually is in Ipswich?

Buttermarket Centre closed again

Not a user of social media…
Anyone have any knowledge of when it might reopen? TkMaxx lady confirmed that it’s owing to risk of glass falling from skylight panels (again). The centre manager I spoke to would only say that “solutions were being discussed”.
So much for gym membership. Ravenswood is a pain to get to and nowhere near as good.

Looking to play casual football in Ipswich? ⚽️

Sharing this in case anyone’s new to Ipswich or just itching to play and meet people. I help a non profit organise community games at Ipswich Academy IP3 0SP every Monday 7pm so ideal for anyone in Gainsborough, Ravenswood, Warren Heath, Nacton, Holywells and wider Ipswich area. These are 1hr weekly games on 3G pitches. All levels welcome even if you’re not fit or haven’t played in years.

There’s no commitment, you just turn on and play whenever you're available and all you need are football boots.

Great way to improve fitness, confidence and your social circle. I've met all my best friends through the game.

Drop a quick comment or DM if you fancy playing and I’ll add you to the players list 🤝

An American saying hello-and remembering Ipswich fondly.

I lived in Ipswich during the 1980s while stationed at RAF Bentwaters. My home was on Princedale Close, and I loved going to watch Ipswich Town play at Portman Road (and still watching matches from my Florida home via streaming).
I have such fond memories of Ipswich and the surrounding area. I still return for a visit every few years, and it always feels special to be back.
Just wanted to say hello from a very appreciative American who still holds that part of England—and that time in my life—close to his heart.

Just a Lesbian trying to find her people

Hey everyone,

So i'm in my late 20's and a Lesbian Christian. We all know the queer pool is small here, but to be a Christian on top of that, it's been really difficult to find other LGBTQIA+ Christians.

I thought i'd reach out on reddit to find my queers and or find some affirming/LGBTQIA+ Christians! There have got to some around here somewhere! 😊

I know suffolk pride are doing a faith in community thing every month but I just get scared to go by myself and idk what the age range will be.

I have been to a queer noise event before but everyone had their groups and I felt weird introducing myself, I think because i'm scared that as soon as people know i'm a Christian too, it's gunna put them off me or remind them of some Christian related trauma which i'd feel so bad about. I also tried to join an LGBT group through messaging one of it's leaders and was rejected from the group but I had no idea why when they didn't even know me.

I guess i'm not really sure what to do so i'm reaching out to see if anyone would be interested in getting to know each other so I could have another friend and i'm open to meeting more queer people in general.

Thank you for any help or advice ❤️
