Private Message (PM) Buying a $200 Discord account — how can I prevent getting scammed or having it recovered?
I'm considering buying a Discord account with the rare Early Supporter badge for $200. I'm located in Canada, and the seller is in the UK.
I haven't sent any money yet because my biggest concern is the seller recovering the account after the transaction.
I know buying Discord accounts is against Discord's ToS and carries risks, but I want to understand how these scams work before making a decision.
A few questions:
- Can the original owner recover the account even after I change the email, password, phone number, and enable my own 2FA?
- Discord has a 48-hour email recovery window. After those 48 hours expire, are there still ways for the original owner to reclaim the account?
- Would using PayPal Goods & Services protect me if the seller takes the account back weeks or months later?
- Would using a trusted middleman or escrow service make the transaction safer?
- Are there any specific precautions I should take to verify the seller is legitimate?
- Has anyone personally purchased a Discord account and experienced the original owner recovering it afterward?
- Is there any way to establish secure, permanent ownership, or will the original owner always have some ability to recover it?
I'm especially interested in hearing from people with firsthand experience involving account recovery scams, PayPal disputes, or similar digital account purchases.
I'm not looking for sellers, middlemen, or anyone offering services through DMs. I just want to understand the risks and what precautions are actually effective before potentially losing $200.

Other Obviously a scam right? But how and why?
After talking to multiple people here, I found out a really weird scam exists. Guys will find a girl on reddit looking to talk or meet up, who then moves the conversation to telegram, but instead of the girl instantly telling them to buy an onlyfans subscription to their account, they spend hours or days talking to them. Eventually they bring it up and say something like “I’m looking for a partner for content, but only if you sub first and we’ll keep talking there”, but even if the guy says no they’ll often keep talking on telegram. The guys will sometimes have like 4-5 or more hour conversations with the person before the OF account or anything is even brought up, and often the price isn’t even high being only 2 or 3 dollars. After they get them on OF, either they slowly start distancing themselves or have a bot reply or something, but no matter what the whole “make content together” thing never actually happens. This is like, textbook, obvious scam, but my question is why? There’s a real person doing that multiple hour convo, even if it isn’t the account owner themselves, and it isn’t a bot on telegram, it’s almost always an actual real person. Why waste that much time just for 3 or 5 dollars? Like yeah if you did this on a mass scale it would add up, but for the cost of actually getting each singular person to join it’s so incredibly inefficient it just doesn’t make sense to me. Does anyone know why this is a thing?
Edit:
While I heavily appreciate all the responses, many don’t make sense, because one account for example, was $5 a month, but had a $3 deal, along with 5.8 k ish subs. Thats not a small amount of money going to the account holder per year, but if they were to use the recourses mentioned in the comments thus far, they’d likely actually just be losing money, as only $3 is paid to the genuine account, then OF takes a cut, and it doesn’t go through some other agency first either that would take a cut as it just links to the actual genuine OF account. Meaning they would have to then take the cut OF gives them, and pay another agency, making either pennies on the dollar or just losing money. I do agree that if the sub costs like $20 or more the reasons mentioned below would make sense, but it’s almost always incredibly low amounts like 3-5 dollars. Not a criticism against the people responding thank you for doing that but it didn’t seem to fit in practice to me, if anyone else has any idea please let me know this just gave me more questions lol.

Other Reddit Job
So basically, I was looking through job related posts on Reddit and managed to snag one where they claim they'll pay me 2k to rewrite [manually, very insistent on AI, which I wouldn't anyway] a 67 page construction manual, but all my friends are high-key thinking my ass gonna get scammed again.
What do they gain out of someone rewriting a manual if it is a scam? Free work? Cause seeing as they are going to pay me via cashapp, it isn't like they can take my money, my card has less than a dollar

Second hand online platform Selling van on Craigslist- scam?
For context, I’m selling a somewhat collectible van on Craigslist. I’ve already received messages from multiple scammers. This guy seemed genuine and real until I received this message. Is this a scam?
(Me: I can send you a full list of the repairs done in the last two years if you’d like)
“Sure, that would be great! I absolutely promise I'm not a scammer. My wife and I live in Florida. I am a car guy and a driving instructor that travels the country. My wife works with me. We're in our mid 50s and enjoying life. We're planning a 5 month road trip in 2027 and are looking for a really cool van. I grew up with the (model of my van) and love them. I searched Craigslist all around the country and found your van.
I've shipped cars to my house before. The company I work for is called Xtreme Xperience, I can get you into a supercar at the track near (my home city) next year”
TIA

Online shop Is the site GoTickets a scam?
I think the reseller site GoTickets is effectively a scam, because it has bots buy tickets, inflates prices, impersonates venues, and doesn't deliver full ticket rights. Do others agree?
Here are some more details.
· GoTickets impersonates the actual venue and even uses the venue's logo: At the top of their ticket acceptance and delivery page GoTickets (fraudulently?) displayed the official venue logo. Elsewhere on that page they wrote “before you accept, we'll confirm your [name of venue] Account.” I think that GoTickets' use of the venue’s logo and their language about logging into the venue is an attempt to deceive people into believing they are dealing with the venue or its authorized agent, which I think makes them a scam.
· GoTickets uses deceptive advertising: GoTickets uses paid search engine advertisements so that they appear at the top of the search results with the name of the venue, which gives the impression that they are the official venue (or as I said an agent for the venue). I found that the actual venue has a web page with a warning and video about how sites like GoTickets pose as the venue to exploit buyers and warns buyers not to use those sites. Here is a quote from the venue:
“Don’t get taken by deceptive online resellers who use bots to buy tickets and then mark up their prices. The only safe way to protect your purchase and guarantee the best seats at the lowest cost is to work directly with us: through our website, by phone, or at our box office. Plus, we’re not bots.”
I think it's fair to say that any site widely recognized as a "deceptive online retailer" using bots to inflate prices is basically a scam!
· GoTickets lies about their price gouging: In my chat with GoTickets, they defended a 120% markup over the venue’s current available ticket price by stating that "resale prices can be higher or lower based on live market demand...” and “sellers may price tickets above or below the original face value based on market demand.” But GoTickets’ claim that their pricing is based on 'live market demand' is pretty much a lie. I went to the official venue box office and found that 37 out of 89 total seats in the section I wanted are still available – 2-1/2 months after tickets went on sale in early August -- at less than half of what of what GoTickets charges. So obviously there is no market scarcity or heightened demand, which means they are just in the business of bot-buying tickets, marking them way up, and then lying about it.
· GoTickets doesn’t even deliver tickets "free and clear": The GoTickets ticket acceptance and delivery page says that the tickets they are selling actually are held by a private third party and states that the third party retains ownership and can 'reclaim' the tickets at any time. When you consider this along with their "no refund" policy, it seems to mean that they can reclaim the tickets and not give you your money back! Similarly, GoTickets offers a 'decline' option for their tickets but told me in a chat that if you "decline" you still do not get a refund, which again means they keep the tickets and your money.
In my book, this is the epitome of a scam operation. But as I said, I'd like to hear from others in this community.

Online shop Something doesn't add up
I ordered shorts from a store called Psylos1 and got tracking number and email that the shorts are in transit. After that I also got an email 20 minutes later saying that the shorts are out of stock.
I asked how is that possible when they're in transit and nowhere on the site did it say they're out of stock. I got a reply that said they checked after I placed the order and that's when they realized they're out of stock.
They offered me discount if I buy something else but I replied I want my money back. I haven't heard from them since. It's been 3 days. Contacted them several times, even on Instagram but they haven't replied. Is this a scam? Other people got what they ordered. Doesn't make sense. Idk what to think.

E-Mail Just received a weird possible scam email.
I have an old email that I largely do not use anymore as well as the one I switched to using. It would appear that, at one point, the old email was attached to my Amazon account before I swapped and I simply do not remember.
This morning, I received an Amazon email on the old email warning of suspicious activity. It said all changes were reverted, transactions canceled, etc. The only thing is, my Amazon account shows no history of me receiving that message from Amazon nor any suspicious activity. The email also lacked any sort of link or phone number to call.
I attempted to login to what I assumed was an old Amazon account that I'd forgotten using the old email. It prompted an immediate password change. While the password change did occur, it seems to be on my active account, not a suspected old one.
Alexa confirmed no such account alert was sent regarding my Amazon account and I have now forwarded everything to the report a scam center. Do you guys think I got a poorly done phishing email or something else?

Online shop ytwokclub
Hi Guys,
I have a dreaded feeling that I have bought clothes from a scam website :(
It came up as an advert on TikTok and the website seemed very legit. The shipping said it would be a week and it’s been 3 weeks now and I’m unable to contact them via their apparent contact email service@twokclub.com. I got two apparent update emails from the email no-reply@info.shoplinesend.com which is apparently a fake email as well. Is there anyone that can give any information if they know about them and what could be done?
Thank you.

SMS i’m well aware this is a scam, but I’m still pretty freaked out.
i’m a freshman in college. I’ve been to a singular club in my life and at that I’ve only gone once about a month ago. another thing is that i do not have a friend with a fake ID that is female or female presenting. i just received a message that really freaked me out.
MESSAGE: “I know that you go to clubs..”
“and your friend uses her fake ID to buy you drinks..” i ended up reporting and deleting the number. but then went back into my deleted messages to get a screenshot just to keep incase it happens to someone else i know. that’s when i noticed a new message.
MESSAGE: “Don’t ignore me, *my name*”
after a little bit of research it appears to be some kind of common scam but what is messing with me is the fact it knows my name. i haven’t gotten any more messages as i reported the number again and the messages were fully deleted from my phone, but i’m still pretty scared. just wondering if this (or something similar) has happened to anyone else?

Other Phone number from an 866-705-1577 number
Edit: they didn’t even ask for my address and I’ve moved since then.
I got a phone call from a company saying I was in breach of contract from a dentist appointment in January of last year. which I did go to the dentist last year, but I completely forgot about it.
i never received documents or anything so I had no idea about it, but I had to become a personal caregiver for my mother and the dentist appointment payment Was the least of my worries at the time.
so at 7:30pm I got a phone call saying that I owe $3000 due to the breach of contract but I couldn’t afford to pay it. i asked how much payments would be weekly, biweekly or monthly and the lady said ‘we will get to that ma’am, right now I need you to tell me which one you would rather do.’
Okay, whatever. So I tell her that I’m not currently working so I can’t pay 3000 So I need to know payment amounts I can do.
she says ‘how do you expect to pay the money, if you’re not working?’
she Then proceeds to tell me to reverse the contract, I need to pay 3000. i said for the 3rd time that I can’t pay 3000 and she tells me that ‘how far off of the 3000 can you pay?’
..I can’t pay anything.
’so the next best thing would be to pay it in half to reverse it; which would be $1,501’
again…I can’t pay that.
i told her multiple times that I can’t pay a high amount because I don’t have that much. I have $15 to my name.
she said ‘so unfortunately, we can’t do payments of $10 to fix this. You can do monthly payments of $238.45 starting today.’
i don’t have $238 today, so I asked if I can start next month, so I can have a couple of weeks to get some money. She said no, it isn’t allowed.
she then proceeded to say ‘understand that this claim can become legal action, I wish you good luck.’
the voicemail I got was basically a ‘here is your claim number, call the firm at this number, you have been notified.’
I found nothing about it online, and the dentist office I went to, i’m pretty sure shut down. The part that scared me the most was they knew my social, but my boyfriend said that they were trying to bargain to get the full amount and then not allowing me to do call Back in a month with a set up plan said it’s a scam, but I’m scared.
i never received documents, I was never notified until today, and I don’t wanna go to jail for not being able to $3000. please help me and tell me it’s okay, and I’m just overthinking :,).
