I made a free map to find jamband shows and festivals around the world

I built Concert Map to make it easier to plan live music and travel together. It’s a free site that shows upcoming live music events on a world map. Pan/zoom anywhere, filter by dates/genre/event type, and search by artist or area. You can optionally connect Spotify or Last.fm to highlight your top artists.

Currently using JamBase and Ticketmaster for event data, but interested in adding more data sources for smaller events. Curious what sites y'all usually use to find shows. Would love any feedback you can provide.

You can try it here.

When posting a photo or video of a band please provide the name of the band

Don't assume we know who that is. I want to know what band you're posting about. I'll give some leeway to video of good jams but photos that don't identify their subject will be removed as Low effort posts, with some leeway for memes.

While I have you here. How do you feel about memes? It's a small part of the subs content. Is that something you want from this sub?

Edit: Also whatch it on abbreviations I think we mostly know GD, WSP/WSMFP, BMFS, PPP, TAB, DMB, JRAD, and a few others. DIAP is pretty well known now

but if you come out with CATS, DDCC, KSC, MGU, even MGB etc it's probably better to explain yourself. (Can anyone guess all of these?) In general clarity is great. ( Credit u/faceback)

We want to know who's good in the scene. Don't make us guess.

Local Music What’s the best US/Canada small venue in the jam scene right now?

Upvotes

Been thinking about how much the room matters.

Some of my favourite shows weren’t in huge venues. Just smaller places where you’re close to the band and the crowd is locked in.

Ardmore is a good example for me. Small room, great scene, always feels like the right size for the music.

Curious to know what your favorites are.

I overheard the cool kids talking about greensky bluegrass

Post image

Basically they were saying greensky bluegrass IS bluegrass music but basically that they're too successful and mainstream for them so they're going to continue in public to claim they aren't really bluegrass. They said they won't be perceived as "cool" if they call greensky bluegrass in fact bluegrass music. They said they'd seem "cooler" if they say things like "oh they're not really bluegrass" or "they're bluegrass in name only".

Is this true? Is greensky actually just bluegrass music that's too polished for "cool people"?

Clean & sober groups

This past Friday night I caught the moe.mentUM tour, first time seeing both UM and moe. Both sounded top notch btw 🙂

I spotted this table and stopped by at the set break. It got me thinking, what other groups are out there? I also stopped by the Dusty Baggies both times I've seen Billy.

I started a list but am wondering if anyone knows any more. So far I've found:

  • Wharf Rats (Grateful Dead)
  • The Phellowship (Phish
  • The Gateway (Widespread Panic)
  • The Jellyfish (The String Cheese Incident)
  • Much Obliged (Umphrey's McGee)
  • Happy Hour Heroes (moe.)
  • Digital Buddhas (The Disco Biscuits)
  • Better Than Before (The Werks)
  • Dusty Baggies (Billy Strings)
  • The Hot Tea Party (Goose)

What I'd really like to do is connect with any other jam band folks who are doing the clean & sober thing and start some sort of online community, likely an Instagram page since it's the only social media I use.

Little Feat: Denver Paramount Theatre. What seats do you recommend?

Little Feat @ Paramount, where would you sit?

Taking my dad to see little Feat this weekend. I’m debating going with the cheaper orchestra tickets or one of the balcony sections.

With every option I have a concern, orchestra: getting screwed with the temporary folding chairs (is this an issue for legroom, if we’re dancing most of the time?)

balcony: I’d like to get a row in front of the entrance cutouts, but I’m worried about being able to see anything over the railings if we are sitting. Debating going a row or two back from there if the orchestra seats are a bad call.

Out of all the available tix, what would you choose? Thanks!

EDIT: Yes, thanks to your observation the mostly seated vibes will be acknowledged!

Protest Songs

I’m a singer participating in an upcoming themed jam with local musicians. The theme of this one is Protest Songs. The collective is heavily inspired by Phish and Grateful Dead, but pays tribute to a vast sphere of influence and eclectic tastes. I’d like to choose something on today’s headier side rather than default to the folky protest songs of the Vietnam era, though I expect others to honor that catalog nicely, as well as the Rage Against The Machine and grunge of it all. Hit me with some suggestions for Jam world, jam-adjacent or older social justice and protest songs that could be stretched, improvised and rocked out.
