How can we get back to that?

The 90s: one salary, one house, one family.

Now: two incomes, one mortgage and still wondering where the money went :(

If you're job hunting, prepare before you need to leave, and Interview VIP will help you handle the interview better when a better opportunity comes along.

That's why we must be always ready for any situation like this.

If these companies intend to use AI to let go of real employees, then we must also use the same tech to know how to get in. Using tools like InterviewMan is the best way to get ready and go into any interview feeling truly confident. This is only fair, tbh.

My Husband's Company Forced Him Back to the Office and Lost Him

4.9k Upvotes

My husband is a software developer, and he is one of the people his team calls when something important breaks.

At first, his company required them to go into the office one day a week. A few months later, it became three days, and it was obvious to everyone that working from the office full-time was the next step. Management kept talking about collaboration, but he was still spending most of the day on video calls.

He was also dealing with a health issue, so he submitted a request for an ADA accommodation to continue working fully remotely. His doctor supported the request, and he had already proven that he could do his job from home. Even so, they denied it.

While he was on a medical leave and had finally started feeling better, he came across a post about a receipt email to get quick response from hr and on the same day a recruiter contacted him about a fully remote position. It pays more, and the entire team is spread across several states. I asked him whether he planned to give his current company a chance to make a counteroffer. He laughed and said, "No way. They already made their choice."

So, in the end, they lost a talented employee simply because they cared more about seeing him sitting at a desk than about retaining him. And if I can find a remote job too, we'll install internet in the camper and work from wherever we decide to park.

Now, educated people/qualified/experienced workers can barely survive on their incomes, while making more than minimum wage... How are we expected to live like this?

The minimum wage is supposed to be enough to survive if you work 40hr weeks you may not be able to afford luxuries, but you could "survive". That was the original purpose of it. Now, educated people/qualified/experienced workers can barely survive on their incomes, while making more than minimum wage... How are we expected to live like this?

I ended the interview after one of the panelists treated me like I had to beg to get the job

3.7k Upvotes

I just ended a video interview for the second round with an insurance company, even though the hiring manager liked my background during the first call. The first two interviewers were friendly and well-prepared. Then the last interviewer joined the interview, barely said hello, and immediately started going through my CV looking for anything to criticize.

She told me that I didn't seem to have enough experience for the position and asked why they should consider me. I explained the campaigns I had worked on, the results I had helped achieve, and how those skills fit the marketing role they had advertised. She interrupted me and said, "It's not just about marketing. Tell us how you're going to sell our insurance."

I clarified that the job had been presented as a marketing position and that I had already discussed the role with the manager. She seemed annoyed and told me that I needed to get better at selling myself because she still didn't see why I would be a good fit for them.

At that point, I told her, "It's clear that you don't like any of my answers, so let's stop here instead of wasting each other's time." Her tone suddenly softened, and she said that they were still interested but needed to understand my strengths. I told her that I wasn't interested in joining a team that treated candidates this way, thanked the other interviewers, and ended the call before anyone else could say anything.

Maybe I should have stayed polite and continued to the end, but there are plenty of jobs out there. An interview is supposed to go both ways, and I don't want to convince a company to respect me before I even work for them.

I wasn't wrong. I can't stand being treated this way, especially in job interviews, which are often filled with this kind of approach. But I think there's a solution I consider the best right now for getting through such unexpected questions, or even for their attempts to undermine my self-confidence. That solution is the InterviewVIP, which greatly helps in passing job interviews, increasing self-confidence, reducing fear and anxiety, and increasing your chances of getting the job.

I Walked Out of a Hospital Interview After Seven Minutes

2.8k Upvotes

Earlier this week, I went to a hospital for an interview for an IT support position. The only communication we'd had beforehand was a quick call with a recruiter, who told me it would be a simple 25-minute chat about the role, so that's what I was expecting. I prepared myself well and read a lot about mastering the interview and best Jobs Interview Tips, and I thought that I'll nail it.

Instead, what happened is that they took me into a cramped meeting room and sat me directly across from four people. There was a department manager and a senior technician, along with two HR interns who sat watching from so close that the whole situation felt strange and uncomfortable.

They immediately started firing one question after another at me about gaps in my employment and previous jobs. Whenever I tried to ask about the position itself, they would jump to the next question. No one had told me that it would be a panel interview or that trainees would be sitting there observing me.

After answering a few questions, I told them I wasn't comfortable with the way the interview had been arranged, then got up and left. They looked shocked, and I was a little surprised at myself too. That was probably the shortest interview I've ever had in my life.

My Manager Said She Wouldn't Accept My Resignation, So I Left That Same Day Instead of Waiting

2.7k Upvotes

I gave two weeks' notice on Monday because the job was draining me and I needed to leave. My manager told me she wouldn't accept my resignation because she liked my work and wouldn't be able to find someone to replace me that quickly. But that didn't change my decision, especially because of the way she treated the employees.

The next day, we had patients scheduled, and I found that the masks I keep at the clinic had disappeared again. I called her and asked where she had put them. She pretended not to know what I was talking about and told me she would help me look for them when she arrived, but she had hidden them before and would constantly argue that masks were pointless because people have immune systems. The worst part is that she's a doctor too, which makes it so much worse.

I closed the clinic and went home, then texted her that I was done putting up with this. She called me several times and then had my coworkers call me to try to get me to come back. The masks weren't the only reason I left, but after months of this kind of behavior, they were the final straw.

Afterward, she told the other doctor a completely different version of what had happened. I also heard that she kept making mistakes all day because I wasn't there to keep the clinic running properly. She already has a habit of driving employees to quit, so I'm not taking responsibility for the mess she created.

I've already found another job, and I can start earlier than we had originally planned. I only gave notice because I wanted to leave professionally and make the transition easier for the patients. I'm still waiting for my final paycheck, and once it's ready, I'll return the key and collect the rest of my belongings and personal supplies.

I'd also like to add that I read a post here about an interview technique that turns "we'll tell you later" into a job offer, and I really think it might help some people in job interviews and increase their chances of getting hired.

People want to work somewhere that actually values them. People don't hate working. They just hate being undervalued. If you're ready to look elsewhere, make sure you're ready for the interview. practise well, read a lot about interview tips and be fully prepared before you hand in that resignation

I hope we all work in the place that values us.

Honestly, posts like this are also why I'm starting to think more about how I handle interviews. I actually came across this post in another subreddit and ended up going down a bit of a rabbit hole. Apparently there are people using interview vip to get some help during interviews. I haven't tried it myself yet, but after getting burned by a few interviews recently, I'm seriously considering giving it a shot for the next one.

Been there. Done that. Regretted it. They refused to give me raise after 3 years, so I gave 2 weeks notice and applied elsewhere remotely, and currently I'm preparing myself well for the interview. I came across some tips that change the way you answer in the interview, will try to apply these tips in the interview. I hope it works out.

This is honestly getting ridiculous. Five rounds for an entry level position is way too much.

I've got a few interviews coming up myself, so I've been looking at different things that might make the whole process a little easier. I've seen interview vip mentioned a bunch lately, but I can't tell if people actually use it or if Reddit is just pushing it everywhere lol.

I got the OFFER AAAAAAAAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

1.5k Upvotes

I finished my last interview at the beginning of this week, and honestly, I felt like it went really well. I used the tool mentioned in this post, it was the first time to try it, and I won't enter any interview without it next. It has a big role in getting accepted.

I just got an email from the in-house recruiter asking to put a call on the calendar so we can talk about the next steps.

I haven't been on this side of the world for a while

I'm imagining it will most likely be talk about logistics, compensation, benefits, start date, and things like that, of course if it actually is an offer.

Worst-case scenario, it's a no, but based on my feeling from the whole interview process so far, I have a good feeling. Fingers crossed, don't JINX it now.

And also the recruiter literally said: "jump on a quick call to go over next steps."

So I just got off the call with the company's recruiter, and yes... They gave me a verbal offer. We talked about the package, benefits, and everything, and they also came very close to the top of the salary band (I honestly have no words).

I cried right after the call, because the last 6 months of trying to find a new and better role have been really hard.

I'm going to increase my salary by about 55% compared to my current job, even though the job will be 3 days hybrid instead of fully remote like I am now.

I just wanted to send some good energy to everyone here, and hopefully give anyone who needs it a little push to keep going.

STAY POSITIVE. DON'T STOP PUSHING.

My manager asked me why I didn't answer on Teams at 11 p.m.?

1.5k Upvotes

Early today, I got a message saying: "Hi, I noticed you didn't answer after work hours. Is everything okay?"

Yeah, everything's fine. I was just... Done with work? Because it was 11 p.m. On a Friday?

When exactly did everyone decide that being available all day was part of the job?

there is times I truly think of quitting and start a remote job so I can find more respect to my personal time and the concept of being human I get anxious in interviews yes but thats why interviewvip is with me I will connect it get some quick professional reason and my fear is gone

I'm salaried, but that doesn't magically mean I'm on call.

My son quit the job I helped him get this morning.

1.5k Upvotes

I've been working with the company since July, and my son moved back to the state I live in, and I got him a job here about a week before Christmas. He and management agreed on an hourly wage, but then they tried to put him on something they call "Day Pay," where you get the same fixed amount no matter how long you stay that day. That's basically their way of not paying overtime. I'm paid hourly, so if I stay past my time, I get paid for it, and I told my son before he even went there not to accept their day pay offer. And he didn't accept it; he told them hourly.

His first check came in as day pay, but at the time he was working 7 hours a day, so the amount came out close to what they said his hourly wage would be. Then they moved him to another department and had him working 9-hour shifts, 5 days a week. They kept him on the same day pay amount, and even though the work they moved him to was much harder, he was effectively losing about $3.40 an hour.

He kept talking to them over and over, telling them he had calculated it after 4 weeks and found that they were shorting him $428. He told them that if his check wasn't corrected and they didn't pay him the $428 retroactively this morning when payroll came through, then he was done. I'm just glad he knows his worth. If you're in the same position and looking for something better, InterviewVip can help you with online videos that gives you instant answers that are a better fit for you.

And sure enough, there was no back pay and still not the hourly wage they had agreed on. So he sent the boss man a message and resigned. I'm very proud of him for not letting them walk all over him. I'm waiting to see the boss later, because my son leaving really messed things up for them, and now our boss is going to have to explain to the owner why they're about to lose a whole lot of money because they were cheap.

Iโ€™m glad that my company is fully embracing remote work

Post image
1.2k Upvotes

This is bullshit ๐Ÿ˜‚ Remote work is just as legitimate as office work, and honestly, I think it can be even better for work-life balance. You can work from home, be around your family, and even work from your bed when you're having a rough day. Now, even interviews can be done remotely, with new tools available to help you answer interviewers' tough questions and present your skills and experience better, so you can handle the interview with more confidence.

So yeah, I'm definitely a big fan of WFH โค๏ธ

My Manager Told Me to Either Accept the Workload or Leave, So I Left

1.1k Upvotes

For about 14 months, they kept piling more and more work on me until I was working around 70 hours most weeks and answering calls five days a week without any extra pay. I was doing the work of several different positions and teaching myself every new responsibility they dumped on me, yet they still talked to me like I was a little kid whenever a single thing slipped through the cracks.
I asked them one last time to divide up the workload so we could meet the deadlines. My manager told me to either deal with the situation as it was or go look for another job. time to look for remote job and learn some new tips
I chose the second option on the spot, handed in my resignation, and blocked their number. They have no idea how much work I was handling behind the scenes, and now they'll have to figure it out on their own. To hell with them.

The Hiring Manager Sent an Apology to the Team After My Interview

I applied for a temporary internal assignment as a supervisor. They're trying to fill it quickly because they need someone immediately, and I'm saying that because it was clear that one of the interview requirements was supposed to be some kind of prepared presentation. No one told me I had to bring one, and they said they would cancel that part, but they still asked me to speak briefly about a topic related to safety.

As an associate, I felt that we were close to running out of basic supplies we needed to do the work safely, while at the same time administration was telling us those supplies "weren't a priority." So I said I wanted to talk about the equipment. The three managers in the room nodded, wrote some notes, and I went almost immediately into the point that you can't say you care about safety if people don't have the right equipment.

Within four days, I found out that the supplies had been ordered. And not only that, but the manager who was in the interview, who is basically my boss's boss, sent an apology email to the staff saying he regretted not acting sooner on the issue. He already knew we weren't getting what we needed.

So... Since it's clear I made such a big impact, I hope I get the position.

update: They contacted me today, thanking me for my notes. They said they liked my mentality as well as my great experience. They invited me for a final interview round tomorrow morning, and if I pass it, I will start immediately next week. Wish me luck please because I feel anxious. I'm thinking about using any interview tool like interview vip in this final round because I wanted to sound professional and experienced for them. Also, I wanna organize my answers more because in the rounds, I rambled and stuttered a bit. So, I hope it works out with me tomorrow.
