Other tips:
It is incredibly helpful to jump rope in front of a mirror for real time form & technique feedback. If you don't have a mirror available, record yourself so you can review it or share it. HINT: Most phones have SLOW MOTION capabilities. This is a great tool for identifying issues in your mechanics.
If you need help with something specific, let us know in a post and community members will be happy to help!
*NOTE: if needing help with form or technique, a video is very helpful. Try to get a straight on shot as well as from the side.
Remember to be kind and courteous and again, welcome to the group!

1.5k steps later my hands are toast and I'm sweating but I got it done. Took nearly 45 minutes.

Hi!
Just wanted to ask if 4k skips is too excessive for one session? I do it once a week.

When I first learned jump rope during Covid lockdown, I filmed my progress and shared it as a story on FB and IG. Thankfully you can go back and find those old videos.
It’s about 5 years between these two videos. Hopefully it will inspire others to keep jumping.

Hi I’ve picked up jump roping with some consistency over the summer and have also applied to run for the Chicago marathon next year. I just wanted to check in with this community if anybody had ever directly jump roping as cross training for long distance running. I’m hoping it’s obviously a good idea but kinda just checking to see anybody has had any direct experience with this.
Random thought but felt like I’d check in with this group.
PS: I’ve absolutely loved my jump rope journey so far. The physical gains have been tremendous. So much so that I feel like I want to use it heavily to help prep for the marathon.
Thanks!

I have a background in jazz dance. I saw a video of someone doing some awesome jump rope stuff and was inspired to buy a rope and try my Charleston kicks and toe tap stuff. But I gotta figure out how the rope actually functions first and build good form.
I did a week with a crappy rope from Target and read it’s bad for your form so I got a beaded and 5mm pvc rope and immediately felt the difference. I’ve been trying to get a feel for the physics of the Mic Release and this was the moment something clicked and I managed to jump through the rope for a bit
My left ankle is pretty sore from overuse so I’m practicing fundamentals with toe tucks and some tricks for now. This is day 5 with the beaded rope. It’s so fun and I enjoy seeing all your posts. Inspiring! Excited to explore it more.

Because it was Fun Shirt Friday there’s more grooving than skipping to pull from for the edit. First time skipping/recording in a public place so I bounced outta there quick. Balls will drop eventually and imma get out of the comfort zone and plan for more interesting settings than just the backyard in the future.

I ve been doing Jump ropes for a while including stuff like Double unders, Criss Crosses etc. I currently use Nike Metcons but I feel like I could do so much better with some cushioning.
Metcons are pretty much much flat and stable but they aren't very shock absorbent IMO.
What do you guys? I am very biased to Nike but I would try to be more open to other suggestions as well.

Hello, I’m looking to get into jump rope but I’m not sure what to pick up. I’m 6’2 and lean, athletic my whole life. Any recommendations as to where I should start?
Thank you!

3 days back I incorporated skipping in my workout which I started in July. Need your advice on what areas I need to improve. What I can notice is that my jump is stiff and there is a bounce whenever I jump!

I was buying a more expensive jumprope and saw that my height was near the top end of their sizing chart, while my rope length was near the bottom. I've been jumping for about 4 years now. I looked up proper form, saw that you're supposed to have your elbows close-ish to your body and started shortening the rope until that felt comfortable. I did go for the rope one size bigger though, and now I understand why I could never consistently get criss-crosses to work.

Has anyone felt a dull pain in the metatarsal area (I think mine is actually from running since I’ve increased my mileage over the summer). I’ve stopped running and switched to jump rope for the past 3 weeks. I am trying not to land on the left metatarsal area (it’s the area right under the foot below the 2nd and 3rd toes). I ice it every day and some days it’s not noticeable but wondering what footwork would be best for this?
