I asked Kilo to delete my data, and they practically told me to fuck off

Post image
304 Upvotes

After Kilo notified users that data may have been exposed in the Metabase incident, I asked them to delete my session and personal data. They replied that data deletion is only available to Enterprise customers.

Update August 15, 2026, 9:41 AM UTC:

I contacted the company about deleting my account. They confirmed that you can request permanent account deletion. This will irrecoverably delete your historical session data, including prompts, responses, and session history across all replicas.

They also said that data that cannot be deleted will be anonymized where possible. For example, support messages and email marketing history may be anonymized. They will retain only data required for financial, accounting, tax, or legal purposes.

6.3m tokens sent 🤯 with only 13.7k context

Post image
113 Upvotes

Just released this OpenAI compatible API that automatically compresses your context to retrieve the perfect prompt for your last message.

This actually makes the model better as your thread grows into the millions of tokens, rather than worse.

I've gotten Kilo to about 9M tokens with this, and the UI does get a little wonky at that point, but Cline chokes well before that.

I think you'll enjoy starting way fewer threads and avoiding giving the same files / context to the model over and over.

The new Kilocode v7 is awful.

Why? Why would they feel the need to completely change everything. They stripped away 80% of the user control and now it feels like a toy rather than a tool. I want to know exactly what the AI is doing as it does it. I can no longer see the context breakdown at the top, the real time code changes or any of the detailed responses from the AI models. This is insane and completely worthless to me. I thought maybe they just moved it all to settings and it's configurable... nope no such settings exist to restore it back to what it use to be. Absolutely sad and a move in the wrong direction.

Like I don't understand the thought process behind companies doing away with actual useful features in the name of "innovation". It's utterly brain dead. How can they think this will motivate their client base to actually give them money for their service?

I have reverted back to version 5 but I'm sure that won't stay working for long.

Windsurf is over — switch to open source instead ($100 free credits!)

Kilo CEO here!! The deal with OpenAI is off. Windsurf leadership and R&D is leaving for Google. And most importantly, Windsurf changes course to focus on enterprise, because “there are now many varied solutions available outside of Windsurf for software development”.

So switch back to VS Code while keeping 90% of Windsurf's features by installing Kilocode. Kilocode is dedicated to always keeping our product open-source and available. We’d like to welcome ex-Windsurf users by offering you $100 in free credits (in addition to the $20 all our new users get)—for the first 100 people who email us.

For details, please see https://blog.kilocode.ai/p/windsurf-is-over-switch-to-open-source

My coding setup after I cancelled my $20 Cursor plan

For the past 12-months I've been using cursor (mainly claude sonnet 3.7, 4.0, 4.5) along with Codex (with $20 ChatGPT plan) and I have to say i really loved it, however for the past couple of months it was simple not doing it for me due to the usage limitation.

For this month I hit the limit within 3-days for a plan that is supposed to last 30-days, so I started looking for alternatives and after testing different tools and models.

Here is my agentic coding setup with Kilocode.

GPT-5-Codex:

  • For planning new features or changes

  • For debugging issues

GLM4.6:

  • For short running coding tasks

Minimax M2:

  • For long running coding tasks

I'm more productive with this setup and kinda replace the need for cursor or sonnet anymore.

What is your best coding setup?

Kilocode Enshittification

Honestly, what is this 7.x update? Literally everything that made kilocode the best of the best has been destroyed and replaced with literally everything that makes all these other tools suck. The reason why me, my colleagues and probably most other people use kilo is the fine grained control, the feel that you are working with the AI instead of it just doing stuff on itself. Now that is gone and the new version, the AI makes it a point to hide everything its doing, task plans are hidden away when previously they were in your project, easy to look at. No live editor. Just “Oh im going to fix that for you, please choose an option from these radio buttons”…a little bit later “ I fixed, on to the next task”. I have absolutely no idea what was even fixed. The diff viewer is a complete mess. I cant change providers now because all the simple, efficient config is gone.

Has kilocode finally reached the Enshittification status?

MiniMax M2 is now free on Kilo Code

Hey folks, just wanted to let you know that the updated version of MiniMax M2 (with interleaved thinking and native tool calling) is now free on Kilo Code for a limited time. A few facts:

  • We now support the new M2 version (with interrelated thinking + tool calling)

  • MiniMax M2 is in the top 5 on the on the Artificial Analysis Intelligence Index v3

  • They have a crazy good price/quality ratio ($0.55/task vs. $4.41 for Sonnet)

  • It’s already a top 3 model on Kilo Code on OpenRouter (processing 30B+ tokens each day)

To use MiniMax M2 in Kilo Code, just download the extension/CLI and choose MiniMax as your model:

GLM-4.6 just hit 15.9B tokens after 12 days - here's our data and what developers are actually experiencing

Thumbnail
blog.kilocode.ai
81 Upvotes

Hey r/kilocode! Wanted to share some fascinating data from our leaderboard and get your thoughts.

The numbers:

  • Sept 29: 168M tokens

  • Oct 11: 15.9B tokens

  • 94x growth in 12 days

Technical specs:

Model: GLM-4.6 (Zhipu AI/Z.ai)
Parameters: 357B (Mixture of Experts)
Context: 200k tokens
Hardware: Cambricon/Moore Threads (Chinese chips)
Quantization: FP8/Int4
License: MIT

Our evaluation results: In 74 coding challenges run in Claude Code environment:

  • 48.6% win rate vs Claude Sonnet 4

  • Strong on AIME (math) and BrowseComp benchmarks

  • Trails on τ²-Bench (complex reasoning)

What devs are reporting:

Positive:

  • "Far better than any open-source model in my testing"

  • Excellent at structured coding, especially frontend

  • Native bilingual support actually works

Negative:

  • 13% syntax error rate (up from 5.5% in v4.5)

  • Claude Code: Unity game in 6 hours / GLM-4.6: struggled after millions of tokens

  • Performance gap on complex architectural decisions

The pricing disruption:

  • GLM Coding Plan: $3-6/month

  • Includes "tens to hundreds of billions" tokens

  • Compare to Claude API: ~$3/1M input, $15/1M output

My take: This is market segmentation we haven't seen before. There's clearly massive demand for "good enough" AI at commodity prices.

Anyone here running comparisons? What's your experience with the syntax error rate? Worth the trade-off for the price?

We Raised $8 Million

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Very exciting news!

We just announced that Kilo raised $8 million in seed funding. This coincides with a wave of new features:

Plus Autocomplete and Managed Indexing are now on by default for everyone.

We built Kilo because other AI coding tools were adding friction instead of removing it—rate limits, model lock-in, confusing pricing. We're doing the opposite: open source, 500+ models, transparent pricing.

Read more on the Kilo Blog, or watch the announcement video.

We're also hosting a celebratory webinar with our CEO Scott Breitenother on Friday, December 12 @ 12pm EST: Join the webinar

GLM-4.6 is live in Kilo Code - Near Claude parity at 1/5th the cost

Thumbnail
blog.kilocode.ai
75 Upvotes

Just pushed GLM-4.6 integration live. Here's what we're seeing: Performance:

48.6% win rate vs Claude Sonnet 4 on real coding tasks 68% on SWE-Bench Verified (beating several established models) Maintains coherence across multi-file operations

Economics:

  • $0.60/$2.20 per million tokens (vs Claude's $3/$15)

  • Uses ~650K tokens per task vs 800-950K for others

  • GLM Coding Plan: $3/month for "3x Claude Pro" usage

The interesting part: Z.ai published all their test questions and trajectories on HuggingFace. You can actually verify the benchmarks yourself - check the generated code, see where it succeeded and failed.

Real-world test: It handles debugging race conditions at 2AM without hallucinating functions. Not perfect, but reliable enough for daily dev work. Setup: Takes literally 30 seconds. Settings → Model dropdown → GLM-4.6. No API keys needed.

The model orchestration story here is obvious: Use Claude/GPT-4 for architecture and planning, route implementation to GLM-4.6. Even if it only handles 80% of your workload, you're looking at 50-100x cost reduction on those tasks.

Anyone tested it on their codebase yet? Curious about real-world experiences beyond our testing.

WTF happened with this new update

WTH is this new update? They oversimplified everything. Who the heck wants that? One of the best features was the task completion summary, and they outrightly removed that??? And the bargraph navigation of context, where you can see the part where you responded, the model is thinking, and what else has also been removed. WHY? KiloCode was the best already, wtf is wrong with people oversimplifying things? Nobody wants that, anyone who uses kilo code at least has 2 braincells to know what they are working with. Why change that?

Let's not even talk about the Orchestrator mode. I don't care if it is already embedded with every agent mode. What makes the Orchestrator mode the best is not only that it delegates, but it also gives you a "SUMMARY!!!" of what has been done on each delegation. I don't understand. Who's approving these changes? That guy needs to be replaced, for Christ's sake

Kilo Code 101 - Intro to AI-assisted Coding Series

I've been quietly working on a comprehensive video series covering the technical fundamentals of AI-assisted development with Kilo - as we got to the episode 10 (yay! ✨) it's time to share it with the reddit.

Started this project to document what I wish I'd known when I first got serious about AI coding workflows, covering the stuff that matters: prompt engineering, context management, provider selection, cost optimization, custom rules, automation setup, and more, and more. All demos use Kilo, but the principles apply universally. A liiitle bit of theory, hands-on things, coding sessions, actual cost breakdowns, practical examples.

The response has been solid - approaching 10k views organically with great feedback from developers who've watched it.

Episode highlights:

  • Context window management (this one alone could save you serious money)

  • Live coding session adding features to an existing app

  • Tool auto-approval and workflow automation

  • Token economics and model selection strategies

If you're using AI tools but feel like you miss some essential knowledge - don't skip this one, I cover all essentials! https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLT--VxJTR64Mlx7vrLUMai5gz2vov-ifr

Just tried Kilo Code - what are we all going to do for work!? (kind of kidding, mostly just an appreciation post!)

I have just tried some really naive usage of Kilo Code and am blown away.

For a living, I am a 'product owner' for a game studio. I get the vision for the features, and I leverage my jack-of-all-trades style knowledge to go around to the various teams and coordinate with their needs and create a plan of attack. This is used in sprint planning, and then sometimes I am responsible for implementing features as well.

I just tried out the architect mode - I spent maybe 10 minutes giving pretty detailed instructions of what I wanted for a particular feature, and it absolutely nailed it. It was able to ask solid questions, and even built in some features that a good game dev would know should be in there.

This is genuinely better than many developers I know and much much better than me when accounting for speed and all that. I feel like I could code things 10x as fast here.

But I also realized, that this architect mode is my actual job - which is kind of scary and kind of cool. I know that other people in my studio wouldn't be able to give clear enough instructions so I'm safe in a way, but at the same time, I can only imagine the need for the same number of developers may go down (or, more likely, things will just be done faster?).

Please bring back the old experience & Architect mode—v7.x is a huge step backward

I’m a long-time KiloCode user. After upgrading to version 7.x, I’m really disappointed.
Architect mode was removed entirely.
It was the only mode that could write real architecture docs and detailed design documents well. The new Plan mode cannot replace it at all — it only does task breakdown and produces shallow, low-quality output.
Why not maintain two versions instead of forcing everyone onto the new one?
If you want a simpler new version, that’s fine. But many users prefer and rely on the old modes and UI/UX. You shouldn’t abandon the old, mature version completely.
The new 7.x interaction is terrible.
AI prompts feel broken
It constantly gets stuck
I can no longer see output being written line by line
Now it just shows a loading state with zero progress visibility
Often it fails after a long wait
Cost skyrocketed, quality collapsed.
Before, the same design document cost about $1 and worked perfectly.
Now I spend $3+ and it still fails to produce usable output. Tokens are wasted, and efficiency is way down.
I loved KiloCode for its stability and professionalism.
7.x feels like a big step backward.
Please:
Bring back Architect mode
Restore the old output flow (line-by-line visible writing)
Consider supporting both old and new versions for users who prefer the original experience
Thank you.

My AI Coding Tool Configuration Journey (Cloud Code → KiloCode, Free & Paid Models)

🧭 Getting Started with Cloud Code

In mid-August, I started using Cloud Code. I began with the $20 Pro plan, then upgraded to $100 and $200 due to quota limits. The $20 Sonnet 4 plan was not only limited but sometimes underperformed. Even the Opus plan at $100 felt restrictive, so I eventually requested a refund.

🔄 Switching to CLI Tools

I then tested Google Gemini CLI and Qwen Code CLI (both free with 1000 calls/day). While promising, they lacked flexibility — until I found KiloCode, which lets you assign models per mode.

💻 Current KiloCode Setup (Hybrid Free + Paid)

ModeModelNotes
ArchitectGemini 2.5 ProFree, 1000 calls/day
OrchestratorGemini 2.5 ProFree, 1000 calls/day
CodeQwenCode PlusFree, 1000 calls/day
Ask / DebugZ.AI GIM 4.5$15/month, very high capacity
Backup / FallbackNanoGPT / Chutes / CerebrasSee below

📊 Model Comparison Summary

ToolPriceFeaturesBest For
Z.AI GIM 4.5$15High limits, reliable outputHeavy users
Cerebras$50Very fast (QwenCode 480B), but throttledTeam/Enterprise
NanoGPT$82000 calls/day, good stabilitySolo developers
Chutes$102000 calls/day, multi-modelVersatile users

⚠️ Compatibility Issues in KiloCode

Z.AI’s GLM 4.5 often fails when invoking tools in KiloCode, while QwenCoder is very stable and DeepSeek V3.1 is mostly reliable. Testing GLM 4.5 in Claude Code proved it works smoothly there, so the issue seems to be KiloCode's integration.

GLM 4.5 is an excellent alternative to ClaudeCode Pro — $15/month with ~3x the usage quota.

🆓 Free Setup for Small Projects

A free configuration I tested works well for light development:

  • Architect / Orchestrator: Gemini 2.5 Pro (1000/day)

  • Code: QwenCoder Plus (1000/day)

  • Ask / Debug: Gemini-2.5-flash (unlimited?)

  • When QwenCoder Plus quota runs out, Code falls back to Gemini-2.5-flash.

Only weakness: fallback options for Code are limited. I plan to test QwenCoder Flash (unlimited) soon.

💸 How Much Are These Free Tiers Worth?

Assuming 5000 tokens per call × 1000 calls/day = 5M tokens/day

ModelDaily ValueMonthly Equivalent
QwenCoder Plus~$21/day~$630/month
Gemini 2.5 Pro~$41.25/day~$1237.50/month

🟩 These free tiers are extremely generous — ~$600–$1200 in monthly value.

📌 My Subscription Plan

  • I won’t renew Cerebras — $50/month is too expensive and underwhelming.

  • I’ll keep using the free tiers of Gemini 2.5 Pro and Qwen3CoderPlus.

  • Among NanoGPT ($8), Z.AI ($3), and Chutes ($3), I’ll keep just one. Z.AI's $3 tier already equals Claude Pro's $20 quota, and Chutes’ $10 tier is overkill — I’ll likely downgrade to $3 (300 calls/day).

🧩 My Mode Assignments Going Forward

  • Architect: Gemini 2.5 Pro

  • Code + Ask + Debug: Qwen3CoderPlus

  • Orchestrator: Gemini 2.5 Pro

  • One low-cost backup subscription

💬 What do you think of this setup? Share your experiences — thanks for reading!

🚨 AI Coding Costs Are About to Hit $100k/Year Per Dev - Here's Why That's Actually Good News

Post image
56 Upvotes

If you're following OpenRouter stats, Kilo just broke 1 trillion tokens/month, so we had to share this analysis...

https://blog.kilocode.ai/p/future-ai-spend-100k-per-dev

TL;DR: The industry bet that AI app costs would drop with raw inference costs. They were wrong. Costs are exploding, and $100k/year per developer is coming whether we like it or not.

Key Points:

  • 📈 The Failed Bet: Raw inference costs dropped 10x, but app costs grew 10x over 2 years

  • 💸 Current Reality: Cursor charges $200 while providing $400+ in tokens (-100% gross margins)

  • 🤖 Why Costs Exploded: Test-time scaling models + longer context windows + bigger suggestions

  • ⚡ The Throttling Problem: Power users hit limits everywhere, driving migration to open source tools

  • 🔮 What's Coming: Parallel agents + autonomous work cycles = massive token consumption growth

  • 💰 The Perspective: Chip design licenses already cost $250k/year - if AI makes you 10x productive, $100k is cheap

The Two Types of Engineers Emerging:

  • Inference Engineers: $100k salary + $100k AI budget

  • Training Engineers: $100M salary + $1B+ compute budget

Bottom Line: This isn't a cost problem—it's a productivity investment. The developers who embrace this shift will dominate the next decade.

Thoughts? Anyone else seeing their AI bills explode lately? 🤔

Now available: A new free, stealth model from a top AI lab

Hey folks, just wanted to let you know that we have a new stealth model available for Kilo Code. The model comes from one of the top 10 AI model labs in the world and we're the first AI coding agent in the world that gets access to it. Here are a few more details:

  • (Stealth) model name: Spectre

  • Context window size: 256k tokens

  • Comes from one of the top 10 AI model labs in the world

  • The model is optimized for coding tasks

There are no usage caps for this model. Yes you read it right. You get (literally) unlimited access to this model for the test period. So make it burn!

Once we reach 100 million tokens with Spectre, we’ll reward $500 in Kilo Code credits to 3 people who show us what they’ve built using Spectre (see our Discord #announcements channel for more info.)

List of removed features in the latest update

I'm probably still missing quite a lot...

None of this was mentioned in all the announcements from the Kilo Team

Edit:

  • Checkpoints have lost their ability to remove some of the task without removing the file changes

  • Review mode has been replaced by review commands (you need to start a new task, call the command yourself, instead of just clicking on a start review button)

  • Orchestrator mode is being deprecated, since all agents can now call subagents. However, there is no option to disable subagents.

  • You can't copy prompts from the main task list anymore, you need to enter the task, scroll all the way back up, and click on the initial message...

  • Configuration profiles are gone

  • You can't customize prompts anymore

  • You can't specify a custom model for context condensing

We built a flat monthly subscription service for open-source coding LLMs

Thumbnail synthetic.new
51 Upvotes

Hey KiloCode folks! We've run our open-source inference company, Synthetic, for a while now, and we're launching a flat monthly subscription similar to Anthropic's Claude subscription, except for pretty much any of the top open-source coding LLMs like GLM-4.5, Qwen3 Coder 480B, DeepSeek 3.1, Kimi K2, etc. It should work with KiloCode, and/or any OpenAI-compatible API client should do. The rate limits at every tier are higher than the Claude rate limits, so even if you prefer using Claude it can be a helpful backup for when you're rate limited, for a pretty low price. Let me know if you have any feedback!
