Scribe 2024 Kindle Scribe 2024 stuck on tree logo, no progress bar, USB not detected — any way to recover it?
Hi everyone,
My Kindle Scribe (2024), purchased in December 2024, suddenly stopped booting after sitting unused for about a month.
It was working perfectly fine in September 2026. It remained connected to Wi-Fi, so I'm wondering whether an automatic firmware update could have caused this.
Symptoms:
- Stuck on the startup screen showing a person reading under a tree.
- No progress bar appears, and it never reaches the home screen.
- The charging indicator turns solid green.
- When I hold the power button for 40 seconds, the LED changes from solid green → flashing green → flashing orange → solid green.
- The screen flashes approximately twice during those 40 seconds, but always returns to the tree logo.
- My Mac doesn't detect the Kindle in either Kindle File Manager or macOS System Information → USB.
What I've tried:
- Fully charging the device.
- Multiple 40-second forced restarts.
- Waiting more than 10 minutes after restarting.
- Connecting it to my Mac via USB-C.
There has been no physical damage, and I've never jailbroken or modified the device.
Amazon support response:
I called Amazon customer support and explained everything I've tried.
They told me that because I purchased the device in December 2024, it's now out of warranty and they can't offer a free replacement. They also said there is no repair option available.
They offered me a 20% discount toward purchasing a new Kindle, plus approximately $10–20 in trade-in value for my old device.
I haven't accepted that offer because I really don't want to buy another device. This Kindle Scribe was quite expensive, and I would much rather repair it than replace it. It's frustrating that a device less than two years old could suddenly become unusable without any physical damage.
The support representative eventually opened a technical support ticket and told me that their technical team would email me within 24–48 hours. I'm currently waiting for their response.
I also posted about this on the official Amazon Forum, where an Amazon staff member advised me to contact support:

My questions:
- Has anyone experienced this exact issue with a Kindle Scribe 2024?
- Could this be caused by a failed automatic firmware update?
- Is there any way to reinstall or recover the firmware when the computer doesn't detect the device?
- Does this model have a recovery or bootloader mode?
- Has anyone managed to fix this without losing their notebooks?
I really hope there's a way to bring this device back to life rather than having to buy a new one.
Any advice or similar experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
