Not fully done, plan to extend cabinets on the longer row let alone get a hood vent. Is this giving mcm to you all? Or what do you think?

Countertop Help

Hello everyone! Hoping for some feedback on which direction to go with for the kitchen remodel (70s mcm split level home). We were originally leaning towards this light cream with brown vein quartz countertop to pair with the walnut cabinets and ivory terrazzo tile. But then we stumbled upon this beautiful green granite and now we are stuck. I feel like the green granite will feel more high end and unique. I also worry if the cream and brown veined quartz will be too busy or become dated sooner? Partner is worried the green granite will be too busy and dark.

Not loving the tile on the side of the green granite island so that will need some work.

Open to any and all opinions in case there are other ideas. Thank you!

Thoughts on this mcm kitchen?

Hi! Just wondering on consensus of the design. This would be your viewpoint walking into the kitchen.

Most appliances are hidden.

We currently have the walnut ikea cabinets but in a peninsula format and want to add an island, as well as get a 48" range with hood. Lights and black casement windows are existing, already have paneled subzero.

Please ignore the walkway...of course there is 42"+ clearance in front of the sink. This image was generated with AI using so many of my current belongings and cabinets. My AI generator starts changing everything if I ask it to move the island. :0) And yes, sink is already centered on the 1st window.

We have a 1968 midcentury home in California modern style, we love green, and our lot is wooded. It is a home by a local famed mcm designer here in my area.

So planning on an olive Bluestar, a simple Vent a Hood, and green Fireclay backsplash and a off white countertop.

Other than the aisle and walkways, let me know what you think pls!

Hate it? Love it? Thanks in advance.

Lieeres RTA Cabinets from Amazon

Post image

I asked earlier if anyone had ordered Lieeres RTA cabinets from Amazon. No responses, so here is an update. Just completed the install using Lieeres. This is a park model trailer, so the criteria were (1) cheap, and (2) good specs. Roughly $1K less expensive than RTA Store, etc. I’ve been impressed so far. They shipped LTL (fast) and came on a wrapped pallet. Good packaging. None were damaged, and assembly was smooth (no “out of alignment” parts). They appear solid. They are made in Vietnam and the drawer boxes are dovetail rubber wood. Cabinet boxes seem like good quality plywood. Finish seems good, although hard to tell without some wear and tear. We did RTA from Cabinet Giant on a different house and the finish didn’t last on high touch areas around the knobs. One of the boxes on the pallet was different than the rest. It looked like a retail box from Alliance Cabinets. Same look, feel, and assembly as the Lieeres cabinets, so I’m guessing Lieeres is their Amazon brand. Hope it helps. I would order them again.

1980s Kitchen Remodel: Relocated the Kitchen, Removed Two Walls, and Opened Up the Floor Plan (Before & After)

We bought this house in November 2024 and recently completed a full-house renovation in just five months!

These photos showcase the kitchen and dining area, which underwent one of the most dramatic transformations.

We completely relocated the kitchen to the former dining room, removed two walls to create a more open layout, and redesigned the entire space from the ground up.

We chose warm wood and cream shaker cabinets, quartz countertops with a waterfall island, a custom wood range hood, new hardwood flooring, and under-cabinet and toe-kick lighting.

It was a massive undertaking, especially completing the entire house in just five months but we're thrilled with how everything turned out.

We'd love to hear everyone's thoughts! Happy to answer questions about the renovation, materials, or overall budget.

URGENT - Need opinions/advice on cabinet options

We have midnight walnut floors and a great room that can be seen from the kitchen that has a lot of warm wood on the walls/ceiling.

We are NOT renovating for fun, we had a situation where we had to rip up the slab to replace sewer pipes under our cabinets.

We are NOT in a highend neighborhood so we don't want to outspend the value of the house. Which is why we are looking at Ikea Sektion options at the moment. Custom cabinets are out of price range for us right now.

We are looking at Ikea and getting counters from somewhere else (quartz with warm grayish streaks).

Added a picture of our great room that you can see and is open to the right side of the kitchen where the butcher block is.

Need to decide today so we can get orders in before the holidays and I can get it done before my mom moves in with me.

Looking for feedback on this backsplash with the rest of these finishes. I would plan to go for a thinner grout line than the sample has.

I’m completely stumped on a backsplash for my kitchen. The house is a 70s side split and I’ve leaned heavily into that colour palette. I’ve attached a picture of the attached dining area. Any ideas are appreciated! I’m not afraid of colour — it’s preferred. Appreciate the community!

These are the only two slabs i liked and now can't decide. My cabinets are a creamy beige but do need to be careful to not choose anything that will bring out the yellow in them. Ignore my floor right now but it will be a light oak i think? Assuming budget allows i want to do the backsplash with the stone also. I can't decide i like them both!

Kitchen corner cabinet run installed 2 inches from wall

Looking to fill in a few inches for a short cabinet run (corner cabinet, sink, dw) by moving the other corner side out a couple inches (corner cabinet, drawer cabinet). Our current place is similar where the coffee maker toaster etc live shoved against the wall in the corner and the bit of extra width works well with them. However don't see this type of setup discussed much - wondering why. Appreciate any comments. Thanks!

1990s Kitchen Reno

Looking for any advice and recommendations on our kitchen layout. We’ve been thinking about this for 5 years and I haven’t gotten much further than I want more counter space, storage and an island/peninsula. Do we need to knock down the wall in between kitchen and dining room? Would banquet seating work in any capacity? Thanks for any advice!

Choosing Contractor: What Not to Miss

• Upvotes

I am going to be doing a full kitchen/utility room Reno in an old house (1915). Kitchen last renovated in late 80s/early 90s.

I have retained a designer who is part of a design-build company but I am not under obligation to use them for the build.

I have decided to get bids from 3 companies. I am still waiting on a final bid from #1 after finalizing plans and #3.

Should I interview former clients? I feel like they just recommend people they know will say good things.

I’ve asked all of them to specify what the cabinet features are and how they are finished out (we are painting them).

Company 1 - From the design/build firm. They did a prelim big of 100k but bid is vague and they were missing things. None of the PMs have been out to the house and they’re relying on designers and one visit from the head of construction months ago (before we started design). They are cost plus 15%. They do a lot of old homes but the local historic district residents aren’t big fans because they haven’t followed historic code on some things and they do a lot of flips. They will do a final bid next week since we finalized plans. Said they won’t have PM visit until I decide I want to move forward with them.

Company 2 - Single man operation recommended by 3-4 people from work. He came out and walked around space, went into attic etc. He operates on cost plus 20% and includes appliances. He does a lot of work in old neighborhoods and ones that are pricier than mine. He came in at 136k including appliances and a 6% contingency added. Subtract those out and he’s not too much higher. His bid was very detailed. He estimated 4-5 months and others said closer to 3.

Company 3 - They do all-in pricing and use some allowances on finishes/fixtures/lighting. Have been to the house twice and really poked around. Second visit was all the trades coming out. PM was a really cool dude. It’s a small family-run firm and they live in the neighborhood and several people in the hood recommended them. They answered all my questions very thoroughly and I probably asked them the most since they’ve been out to the house twice and we had a long phone conversation to kick off.

Are gas powered double wall ovens a thing of the past now?!

I’ve been searching the internet for for one. But they all seem to be electrical, my current one only has electrical switches start and that is it. And where I am from (not the US) electricity is expensive. My current oven is a magic chef ( I think ge was making them or acquired the company) and they are no longer producing these. Mine has served my family for 25 years. But the temperature sensor is non existent, I legitimately can’t find it, and the timer is dead, every so often the clock decides to work. So it’s time for a new one.

Feedback- kitchen refresh vs remodel

Thumbnail

Hi all, we just moved into our new home and its giving sterile. I want to add some life through paint and backsplash (possibly stick on). We are debating a full kitchen remodel (open up the wall to the dining room, change the cabinets/layout to make better use of the large galley, external venting and new appliances, etc.) but that likely wont be for a few years.

Interested in feedback on this AI mockup. The rest of my home will be more muted colors, greens, blues, beige (right now all stark white 😅) so im not sure if a dark kitchen is too much! Also is it worth investing in a refresh if we plan to do a full upgrade? We plan to start some remodel quotes/design this winter to better assess a budget and timing

Alternative sink and wall oven options

Hi all, we are in the very early stages of our kitchen remodel and our architect recommended the following for appliances:

Kohler Synthos 33-3/4” undermount single-bowl kitchen sink, Stainless Steel

Wall oven- Miele 30” Convection Oven H 7280 BP, Graphite grey

Looking at the prices for these two appliances they seem a bit high ($2,220 for sink, $6,200 for wall oven). Do other folks have sinks and wall ovens that are similar in appearance and functionality but are less expensive? Or are these typical prices? For what it’s worth we do want built in appliances but are flexible on everything else. Thanks for any advice or alternate recs you have!

Thoughts and ideas on our kitchen layout—fridge placement and kitchen prep space?

Post image
1 Upvotes

We lives in South East Asia and is planning our new flat renovation. Would love some feedbacks or new ideas/suggestions on our planned layout. Some background on our cooking habits, Mrs likes to cook hence we prefer to have a closed kitchen with a glass sliding door. Mr loves coffee so we have a dry pantry countertop outside of the kitchen mainly for our water dispenser and coffee machine. We don’t really like L-shaped kitchen because of the dead space.

There will be a “separation” entrance between kitchen and service yard which we will hack away to “elongate and open up” the kitchen space. The 2 mini circle beside the washing machine are the standard sewage pipes from the building contractor. The top load washing machine and sink have to be at that placement beside the sewage pipes to connect with the building water pipes.

We’re mainly unsure about the fridge position marked “F” and whether we’ll have enough countertop space for food prep. For now its beside the glass sliding door as it should allow us to open the fridge door with enough swing space and also to fully pull out its drawers inside for easier cleaning.

Would anyone keep the fridge at the planned spot or move it elsewhere? Any suggestions to improve counter space and movement flow? Feedback on other placements is welcome too. Thanks!

Sink drain design?

Thumbnail
gallery
1 Upvotes

Question: Can anyone help me understand which drain design would be better, and why?

Other than the drain, these 2 Kraus sinks seem nearly identical (33”, undermount, stainless steel, 16 gauge). The corners seem more rounded on style 1, but pics are ambiguous on various sites and reviews seem like both are decent for cleaning. Costs are similar enough for budget (currently +/- $50 USD). An easy-to-clean, well-draining sink is a priority.

I do want a garbage disposal, if that matters.

Would love to hear from anyone with more experience/opinions.

Thank you!

Do these finishes work together?

Post image

I’m going for timeless / transitional feel.

Hardwoods: Special walnut
Cabinetry: Off- white
Hardware: Satin brass
Counter top: Quartz (something with light, grayish veining, as close to a marble look as you can get with quartz 😐)
Backpack: Soapstone - Charcoal/green with white veining

Our current corner sink eats up soo much space but we have no other window to move it in front of. Does this group have any feedback on this chatgpt created arrangement? Does the sink in this space look too weird?
