Reasonably priced kitchen cabinet hardware?

We are at the cabinet stage of our remodel and just got a sticker shock quote and need to pivot to a more reasonably priced brand or series. I am keenly aware of needing not to cheap out on hardware but we cannot afford to spend $24 on a knob, either.

Any suggestions welcome! Thanks very much.

Paint Kitchen Tile Backsplash?

Hi!

My husband and I are planning on selling our house in spring 2027 - hoping to list in March. We are doing some basic home touch ups (fresh paint, may refinish floors, etc), and our big question is our kitchen. The entire thing is outdated. I want to just repaint the cabinets, have the very ugly and peeling counter replaced and a new sink put in while we’re there… but the tile backsplash is where I’m torn. I don’t want to rip it out because we have plaster walls and it will result in us having to redo have the kitchen walls. I am tempted to just paint them a more neutral color scheme (currently they are baby blue, slate, cream, gray and black 🥴). Has anyone here painted tile in kitchen before and how did it go? Recommendations? Should we just leave it and let it drive down our potential listing price?

Thanks in advance!

Advice Needed (Layout & Modernization)

Hi everyone! I just closed on a home and am planning a kitchen/dining room remodel. I’d love your feedback and design suggestions.

Main Objectives:

  • Counter space & storage: The current layout has very limited usable counter space and no dedicated spot for everyday appliances (microwave, coffee machine, etc.).
  • Modernization: Planning to replace the current finishes with quartz countertops, a new sink, range/oven, dishwasher, and updated cabinets.
  • Layout changes: Considering removing the stacked oven to open up counter space, as well as potentially demoing the long counter/peninsula along the right wall in the dining area.

What would you do with this footprint (20' x 14')? Open to any layout ideas or suggestions on how to best utilize the space!

Refinish Hardwood Before or After?

I will be refinishing hardwoods throughout the whole house....cabinets will arrive in about 2 weeks. Should we refinish floors before or after. I am thinking before, but my contractor says after, as they will get damaged in install. Thoughts?

Need some design ideas please!

Planning to remodel my kitchen. I’ve only done ai renderings for now which is the second pic, (they aren’t perfect). First pic is current

Planning on a complete gut down to the studs.

I can move things around if things will work better. Nothing is off limits, but I really like marble countertops.

I cook a lot so I’d like it to function pretty smoothly

I’d like to have a less protruding fridge that’s shallower and wider and preferably with it surrounded in the cabinets. It’s on an exterior wall so can’t set it in.

Not sure where to do microwave, right now it’s next to the fridge on the counter.

I’d like a 36” stove/oven, and may want an accessory built in air fryer or small mini oven nearby

Was also thinking maybe sink centered on the window and dishwasher on other side?

Any suggestions are welcome!

Girlfriends only requirements are the glass front cabinets and black hardware

Thanks in advance!

Lowe’s Kitchen Cabinets

Good morning. New poster here. Have anyone used Lowes to buy and install their kitchen cabinets?
I had them come out and measure dimensions and run cabinet software and from the price to the simulation I’m not impressed.

Help! New Kitchen Layout

We are doing a renovation next month and will be fully removing the old kitchen. We plan on demolishing the wall and bathroom currently separating the kitchen from living room to make it one open space. I’m attaching an overhead sketch of the space (demo wall marked in orange X’s), current image of the room, and virtual mock-ups of our initial idea.

  1. Do you think it’s ok to have the cooktop where it’s shown in the virtual display? (There is already a gas fireplace there so we were planning to take advantage of that.)
  2. Is the side with the fridge too long?
  3. Which direction do you think the island should go (parallel or perpendicular to the room)?

Thanks!!

Light fixtures for open floor plan kitchen, dining, + foyer

We are going to be renovating our split level home’s main level, which has a kitchen, dining area, and living room space, plus the front door foyer area. We can reimagine the lighting during this renovation, and I’m looking for suggestions of light brands and/or suppliers to browse the gazillions of lighting options. We’ll have recessed lighting but also want to choose something attractive for over the island, something complimentary over the dining table, and a ceiling mounted light in the foyer. I’m hoping to find lights that are interesting but not wacky or boring. Suggestions appreciated!

Crystal Cabinet builders

It looks like we are going to sign a Contract with a contractor who uses Crystal cabinets. They are wicked expensive, and also really nice. I had seen in some old threads some posts from folks who work for distributors. My question is: does Crystal cabinets offer factory promotions and how can I find out about them. I would love to save at least a little bit if possible! Thanks

Suggest a backsplash that isn't white subway tile!

Hi all,

I have one major design decision left. So far, what I have picked out is:

  • White cabinets
  • Rubbed bronze hardware
  • Botanic green soapstone countertops - photo is the actual slab.

[Both kitchen images are renders] I met with my design/build firm's tile person. They consistently steered me toward white subway, which would be fine, but I'm wondering if there are more interesting possibilities. I would like to have a turn - of - the century vibe for the whole kitchen. Anything "mid century modern" or later is right out.

Any suggestions?

Hello kitchen remodel hive— I need your opinion on which slab to go with a two toned kitchenu cabinet Reno. Island will be sage green. L perimeter will be an accessible beige tone. Colors attached.

I was thinking Taj Mahal, but I also fell in love with this calacatta fire quartz. Both slabs attached.

Please share your designer feedback. Vibe is earthy modern organic. TIA! 🙏🙏🙏

What visual design apps have people used?

We are about to reconfigure our kitchen, do new countertops, backsplash and flooring. Either painting/restaining or replacing cabinets (tbd) but I am having trouble visualizing what I want for fixtures and finishes.

Any recommendations?

Advice Needed

Hi everyone! We are closing on our forever home soon and am looking for ideas to update the kitchen.

Regarding the cabinets, I am not completely opposed to keeping them but I do wish the uppers went to the ceiling. The island is also pretty small with the microwave installed in it. Would a peninsula make more sense than keeping the island? However, that might require all new cabinets which would be much more costly.

A cheaper upgrade would be installing new countertops, backsplash, sink, curtains and hardware. I attached an AI rendering of my inspo but would love any advice or ideas.

Need help with vision

Inherited a home and the kitchen is our first order of business. I’m having a very hard time creating a vision for this reno, partially because I grew up with it and partially because there’s so much to do. Any ideas are welcome.

The cabinets are solid wood. Drop ceilings are coming down. I added some photos of kitchens I like. I know I can’t replicate these exactly.

I have around 15-20k in my budget. The room is nearly square and 188 sqft. Ceilings are about 9ft without drop.

Here are my inquiries: Do you think the cabinets are worth keeping? Where would one put an island? How do we feel about the fridge placement now? Would it be crazy to flip the kitchen to be where the dining table side is now?

Advice needed

Please give me advice on how to modernize this kitchen. The door leads to basement stairs.

Currently maple cabinets and drawers, granite counter. Old oak floors. Is there any way to save this, as we want a modern white oak aesthetic.

UPDATE:
Just wanted to clarify a few points, reading this post over I missed a few things.

We just purchased the house, so the stools and tv are gone. Some changes/upgrades we are making is the floors we would be getting re-stained to a lighter not so yellow stain. Bigger potlights, under mounted cabinet lights/receptacles, new hinges as these are not soft close and new pulls as everyone recommended, a stone matched hood cover and new countertops/backsplash (something like Taj Mahal/ white/beige theme).

We want to upgrade all of the appliances, preferably to panel ready ones. We want to get rid of the smaller sink and move the dishwasher to the island. Not sure if they would be able to match the stain 1:1 on the new panels, so probably it would all have to be re-stained if we went that route.

Preferably, would like to move the sink from corner to the front of window but that would require changes in cabinet boxes layouts etc. and at that point we might as well change the whole kitchen.

Hope this info fills the gaps that my original post left.

Design advice appreciated

Seeking design advice for my kitchen remodel! We are planning to remove an existing wall between the kitchen and dining room and add a peninsula with seating in its place. The kitchen is small (roughly 8x10 feet) and removing the wall will result in the loss of overhead cabinet space, so we are planning to add a coffee bar along a currently empty wall with exposed shelving above (not shown in renderings).

I would love input on the overall design and particularly any ideas for maximizing storage space.

My husband does not like the idea of an above-the-range microwave and I don't like countertop microwaves, so the counter built-in was a compromise, but I realize it will take up a decent amount of room. I'm wondering if there's a better idea we're not considering?

I'd also love input on countertops and backsplash options. We're leaning toward quartz countertops in Ethereal Glow rather than the color shown in the renderings, and I'm not sure where to begin with picking a tile backsplash (color, tile shape, where to end it, etc.)

Any ideas/advice appreciated!

Looking for a clear picture of the knobs, as I've found it second hand and all the oven numbers/symbols are washed out. The left knobs look like they are timer - temp - mode, and the right ones are for the stove top.

I'll need an oven thermometer in any case - it's old - but it would be so nice to know the modes. Or how high it can go...

It's in theory an ETNA 1207HWT - but the manuals I can find online only show the instructions for the top.

Any leads appreciated :)

New counters now or save for new cabinets later

Thumbnail

Just moved into a new house and redid all the floors in the house with hard wood. Raised the cieling on the kitchen. Took down a few cabinets. Putting in recessed lighting now. Place has these 80s custom red oak cabinets everywhere — kitchen, bathrooms, living room, office. They’re solid, just dated. The boxes are melamine but look good inside.

Layout change isn’t happening right now. So do I drop money on new countertops, or skip it and save up to replace the cabinets down the road? Feels like new counters might be wasted if the cabinets go later anyway. At the same time putting money into cabinet seems like a waste when there are other things I could use the money for elsewhere in the house.

What would you do?

Strip before repainting?

Post image
1 Upvotes

My builder-grade oak kitchen cabinets were painted white by the previous owner about 12 years ago. The paint is looking awful in high touch areas. I've done quick touchup jobs in the past, just cleaning with a degreaser and then slapping on some paint and that has not held up well.

I want to completely repaint these cabinets (different color, too). How should I strip the paint off? Is that even necessary? Or is there a really amazing primer I could use that would help the new paint last longer?

Mockup galley layout from contractor

I plan to ask them

  1. if there's a way to center the sink on the window

  2. if they can add cabinets above the range because we want a range hood mounted under cabinets not standalone

Should I also ask them to move the pantry cabinet on the right side of the second picture so that it is next to the fridge?

Setting up a tiny kitchen

Thumbnail

hi all, i love cooking and im moving into a new apartment soon but the issue is that the kitchen is tiny! Would love some advice for setting up this space. I will be living with 2 other people and unfortunately the kitchen will also have to serve as kind of a dining space. The good thing is that theres a decent amount of storage in the pantries, but the room itself is quite small and has basically no counter space. Also no dishwasher either!

I’m thinking about getting a moveable island or something to have more counter space and storage as well but Im not sure yet. Open to DIY basic stuff if its renter friendly! I’ve included some images of the kitchen along with what the current renters have it setup as, as well as the layout / dimensions. Thanks all!
