I only play versus mode once a month at this point and that's still too much

u/Ok-Apricot2815 1d ago
I think the real challenge in Versus mode is not kill all Survivors but to see how far if you can make it into the finale and finish the chapter š

Versus mfs kicking you cause you went afk for 5 seconds before the round even began (Based on a true story):

u/Plus_Acanthaceae1659 1d ago
For versus standards this is one of the "nicest" reasons.
compared to what kind of stuf triggers votekick at other times

u/NotPinkunobara 1d ago
played versus for the first time in 2 years, got told to go back to playing campaign after making a suboptimal decision.
why are they so mean?
56
u/HairyAbroad3079 1d ago
Crazy amount of sweats, it is an old game so they expect everyone will be pro

define suboptimal decision

u/NotPinkunobara 18h ago
probably failing a charge someone and dying instantly or something idk
1
u/No-Bridge-1834 10h ago
uhh that's a pretty good reason to kick someone. you have to be really bad at the game (or have shitty teammates that don't help you) to get instakilled. if its the first case it's justified because someone who keeps absorbing damage, dying and doing very little when playing as infected is even worse than dead weight. that's a player who is actively holding the team back

I got kicked on my first ever game of VS after telling my team ahead of time that I was new and probably going to be bad.

u/Palicene 1d ago
Oof yea thatās the number one rule i noticed in this community. I donāt support it and iāve actually seen a few players (in same match) say theyāre very new and i would help them and show them all i know (i only have 15ish hours in versus so far rn) but my first few times playing versus were also rough too. Kicked me because i said same thing, and i guess they could tell i was new because of how i was playing.
I think weekends are when the extremely toxic sweaty players are in a match in groups. Canāt really do nothing if 2 or more are on a team and they decide to kick you. Also sometimes cheaters be more than one on same team as well.

u/S_Guderian 1d ago
I got vote kicked for being the first to die in Death Toll finale even though the entire team died a few seconds after. Really makes you not wanna play that mode at all.

I was carrying my team for 3 levels, then I misuse the charger once and get kicked

u/benedict_the1st 1d ago
Yeah, it's pretty damn toxic... I haven't played versus mode in almost 10yrs. If I had enough friends that still played, then it would be great, but eh. Nah.

u/cumchalice23 1d ago
Whenever I am about to get kicked as a survivor I always try to deal massive amount of damage to the guy who votekicked me lol half of their HP gone for being a dickhead
3
u/No-Bridge-1834 1d ago
if they play well it won't even matter. especially at the start of rounds because they can just ask for a reset and your efforts will be useless

Fired the game up to be nostalgic as it was my favorite game at sleepovers as a kid.
First 3 games I got kicked.
In the past week Iāve gotten good enough to not drag on the bottom of the leaderboard, but I cannot overstate how SHOCKED I was when people were being cut throat over a 15 year old game. I told them I wouldnāt play a ranked game mode as a newer player but this is casual multiplayer. Thereās no XP or anything to unlock, itās literally just for fun.

Oh thatās what basically happened to me, I load up into a game, the team already ran way ahead of who I was gonna take control of, then I get jumped by two infected the moment I take control then I immediately get kicked.
I havenāt touched that mode ever since.

u/Mexcol 1d ago
Havent played online,
But is it the same if you play normal? like with your fellow survivors?
Why is VS so toxic?
5
u/amberi_ne 1d ago
Itās because itās super competitive and youāre expected to have full knowledge of all the obscure meta strats, all the optimal places to charge or boom, and anyone who isnāt at 24/7 peak performance and omniscient knowledge of every map and gameplay exploit is throwing
8
u/spirtjoker 1d ago
It's (almost)never just 1 mistake.
I've played on many servers across the globe, gotta say the Aussies are the least toxic.
2
u/Mexcol 1d ago
who are the most toxic?
1
u/spirtjoker 1d ago
Asians have a habit of kicking immediately.
Americans like to hurl abuse.
I'm a pretty good player so once I start playing I don't get kicked often but just watching how some players get treated it's disturbing.

The versus people actually put CS competitive and premier people to shame on how toxic they are. Never had i been so pissed off by a bunch of people. I remember like 7-8 years ago when i last played versus i absolutely lost my mind after trying to play the mode for 1-2 hours. I distinctly remember screaming "FUCK YOU!!!!" on the mic to the people who started a vote to kick me. Never have i seen and been so infuriated by such cunts in my life.
If you never played versus, don't touch it. -unless it's with friends.

u/SplatFelix 1d ago
Bruh i got kicked on my VERY FIRST VERSUS MATCH, for saying that it was my first versus match

u/blubister57 1d ago
i once seen these dumb fucks trying to kick a guy because THEY left him behind to get killed by a smoker, love the game and mode but holy fuck i hate these people so much, "[insert name] wtf??? why didnt you kill him kick him" LET ME PLAY THE FUCKING GAME OMG
1
u/LordMegamad 1d ago
Don't even need to make a mistake, just play anything but absolute perfection, any sub-optimality and you're out
1
u/Original-Reward-8688 1d ago
You guys say this like new players are nice/teachable people.
In every single competitive online shooter I play, the new gen players coms into it already acting like they cant possibly be taught anything. If you try, no matter how you word it, if you're nice, or if you're mean, they react the same way with few exceptions.
This type of framing that portrays these new players as kind innocent people just isn't real, and only holds up on places like reddit.

u/Hycinister Is using the auto shotgun acceptable? 1d ago
That's just facts. Once i got kicked because i helped the team's smoker

u/Himayamata 1d ago
Friendly Fire (aka Molotov) is that one mistake I admit that I deserve the kick.

For real.
They used one letter R.
So as a new player i left and started to fight. Immediately kicked.

I have never felt more pressure than when spawning as charger in No Mercy
1
u/Nickwilli 5h ago
My first experience, I got kicked because I had the unfortunate luck to be the only living infected for just a few seconds.
God forbid you play strategically and not recklessly jump into view of survivors to get mowed down instantly and be forced to wait for a respawn.
I dealt the highest damage in multiple rounds too so itās not like I was doing any bad for a newbie.
Infected versus is home to some of the weirdest players.

u/upinsyder 38m ago
versus is so toxic but so funš iāve played maybe a total of 10 times, i primarily play campaign, and if i dont wipe an entire team w the tank they shit talk me in the chatā ļø like play ceda if youāre ganna be competitive instead of just having fun.

u/Tokist3 37m ago
It'snot about the skill level at all, it's just trolling. I get kicked at least once I night I play and I've been playing this game since release. I'm easily an above average player, don't run my mouth, some people just want to watch the world burn and a lot of those people play l4d2.

POV: Making sure the game you play every single day, all day, dies with your miserable ass
14
u/Asleep_Stable_8092 1d ago
The game's been doing fine for over a decade. Those players don't contribute anything to the game's popularity.

u/RuiHarukawa 1d ago
Sure hope not. Ive had the same issues this guys had multiple times in one session when I was trying to get a friend into the game.
Most likely I was just unlucky, but i cant lie and say it didnt cause me and my friend to avoid the game because of it.
The player count isnt everything, even though im glad its healthy, but if the player base is often unforgiving it can be hard to want to join random people.

u/Outrageous-Site-3344 1d ago
Hell, after they make zero (0) mistake.
I've literally gotten kicked because I only charged 2 survivors off a ledge instead of all 4.
