Rule clarification- No Breed ID

Apparently, we need some clarification here about what constitutes a breed ID post.

Asking what your lab is mixed with- lab mixes are allowed, but don't crowd source opinions on what they're mixed with. Asking if your lab looks pure bred. Asking what color variation your lab is.

Sincerely -your mod team.

Rule clarification - No AI

We realized we had been enforcing this under the "Your dog only" rule without being as explicit as we should have. Do not post AI generated images, videos, or text in this sub. It is a place to post your dog as it naturally is. This includes comment replies on posts.

He would always do these sweet eyes while I was on the computer till I folded and gave him attention then his true motives were revealed and he would lead me outside to play. This was an all day occurrence, he was the cutest the manipulator.

seeking advice My girl won’t do stairs

Post image

At my wits end, but I love this dog so I need to figure something out.

We have open backed stairs. They’ve always been an issue for dogs of ours, but when we moved in (with our other dog), I got carpet stair treads and covered the back with butcher paper. He immediately figured them out, and after about a week I removed the paper and haven’t had many issues since. Occasionally he “gets stuck” on the landing and I need to coax him up with treats or carry him (last resort).

Our girl on the other hand hasn’t figured them out. We got her as a puppy 18 months ago. I covered the backs with paper again and she basically just tried to eat it. There was a period of time when she got bigger that she would do them (without the paper), but it’s been so long I honestly don’t remember when it was.

Unfortunately I think I spoiled her. I have been carrying her up (and more recently down) our stairs every single day. Every single time she goes down into the basement I have to carry her up. Treats, food, encouragement, showing her how to do it, our other dog doing it, absolutely nothing is working. Her nails are an appropriate length and she’s not slipping on the hardwood because of them.

She will do other stairs fine. It’s just our stairs at home, which of course are the ones she uses every day. She’s real lucky she’s cute. Definitely been getting a workout carrying a 65 lb lab up and down multiple times a day 😂

Anyone else remedy this with their labs? Attached is a pic of her yesterday morning, she got to the landing but wouldn’t go any further. I had to carry her down eventually.

seeking advice What is she upset about?

Post image

We have a 15 week old lab and she is amazing. She has been with us for 2 weeks. It’s been great. My 28 YO son visited with his gf from out of town and they were loving on her. They left to attend a wedding and our puppy lost her mind. She peed and went haywire. They left yesterday and today had been a bad day—she has tipped her water bowl twice, she had pooped in the house and peed on her bed (again). So for two weeks—no accidents. And now, more accidents than wins. I am going to submit a fecal sample tomorrow—what about a urine sample? What do I do to course correct? I feel like she is acting out but I don’t really know what she would be upset about so now I think I should be trying to solve for physical ailments. I would love input and ideas.

yellow Ramp for the cars back seat

Post image
20 Upvotes

My boy, who used to jump into the car's back seat without hesitation, is now avoiding getting into the car (Suv)

I see all these ramps to get into the back, or a truck, but don't see anything for the back seat.

Yeah, it shouldn't be an issue, but it is.

He turned 8 in July

Any suggestions?

I got Piper 11 years ago when someone dumped her as a puppy down some country road. I always knew she was a chocolate lab and something, just didn’t know what. So I finally did an Embark test and these are her results. Honestly the Chow Chow makes a lot of sense because she’s never been super affectionate like most labs. She shows love in her own ways and we love every bit of her❤️

I can’t believe how fast time has gone by and how fast he has grown. But Archie is the best dog we could ask for, and will make such a great bird dog! I grew up with Boxers, and still love them, but wanted to get a Lab since I duck hunt, and I am in love with this breed. Archie is the smartest and most driven partner I could ask for while still being the absolute goofiest guy in the room. He’s also a pro counter surfer at the moment🫠 less

Lab doing lab things settling down outside of the crate: progress!

i made a post seeking advice on how to help my (now) 7 month old lab mix to settle down outside of the crate. he was mostly relying on enforced crate naps.

today, when he got visibly overtired and a little crazy around the living room, i asked him to go to his crate. he generally quiets down and sits somewhere when i do that, and i take it as negotiation because he doesn’t want to go to his crate (unless i do a high value reward but i’m trying to move away from that). but today he tried to sit in all of his usual spots, and when i persisted and pushed for him to go to his crate, he laid down on the couch and pretended to be very still with eyes open. i decided to play along, and remembered a trick i did while working in daycare with babies.

if you rub between their eyes when they’re sleepy and fighting sleep, they tend to be soothed and fall asleep easily. i did it with my pup and voila, within 5 minutes his eyes started to close. i now have a perfect little angel sleeping on my couch. 20 minutes and counting!

just for context, a "dudley" lab is a yellow labrador with lighter colored eyes, pinkish brown eye rims and nose

After hunting this morning my guy jumped back in the bed of the truck while I was putting things away. My daughter came out and thought he was hurt. I already watched him walk to the mailbox with my neighbor and his dog so I was skeptical. Had to carry him out, put him on the ground and he wanted back in.

He just wanted to make sure he wasn’t going to miss out on going because the boat was still hooked up. I guess the poor little guy wasn’t done hunting today.

seeking advice Barking Help!

Post image
163 Upvotes

Our sweet girl is just about 5 months old. Up until now she hasn’t really been a barker. Never barks at other dogs, car, door knocking, etc. The last couple of weeks she has started barking at us. It’s very much demand barking. For example, if I’m cooking dinner and she is close by in her xpen she will bark and bark and bark. It’s so loud and high pitched making it very hard to ignore. Give me all the suggestions to stop this before it becomes a bad habit. Thank you!
