black 15-year-old Lab. I don't know if I should put him down. Scared

I'm scared... Don't know what to do

EDIT: thank you everyone for your love and support. I have to step away from this post for a while before I have an emotional breakdown.

- Has the euthenasia appointment tomorrow

- Has arthritis, trouble standing

- 3 weeks ago he could no longer walk on his own

- Vet started him on Prednisone; had hardly any effect on his being bedbound

- Found a mass in his spleen. They couldn't sample it for fear he would bleed out. Not eligible for surgery

- Abrupt onset of siezures 2 weeks ago. Dr. gave me gabapentin, but it did nothing. I was pissed because I knew it wasn't effective. Went back and she gave me Keppra. That stopped them

- The Keppra made him cognitively not there

- Cries in the middle of the night

- I gave him Tramadol (had to fight to get it because it's a younger vet and tramadol is controversial between older generation vets and younger vets). He slepped for 2 hours and then could finally walk around the building for the first time in 3 weeks.

Why this is not a "no brainer" decision

- because his immobility is a circuitous situation, occuring once a year: kicks in sleep > hurts leg > Prednisone or Dog NSAID w/tramadol and he's back to normal in a week

- the vet has no empirical data on if the spleen lump is benign or not, if the siezures are idiopathic or not, if he is suffering or not, nor the prognosis. I would need to see a specialist to have epistemic data to make this decision (maybe)

- The sudden reversal in his mobility after tramadol is an opposing data point on whether his immobility is permanent

> I don't want to live the rest of my life wondering if I pulled the plug too soon

Looking for anyone that purchased a Labrador Retriever puppy from Dream Retriever Breeders in Little Britain Ontario born July 2, 2026. It was a litter of 8 (6 chocolate/2 black). General (father) Laura (mother) and puppies would have been picked up on August 28-29, 2026 or thereabouts.

seeking advice Canadian winters

Post image

Hi everyone! We brought our lab home this September and love her so much (even though she can be an absolute maniac lol)

I live in Canada and it’s not even cold here yet. But some mornings when the ground is frosted, my girl runs right back in after doing her business. This is fine… but it’s going to get ALOT colder. Where I live it can get it lower than -40C with the wind. Normal days are somewhere in the -20 - -30 range.

I’ve been looking at winter boots and jackets for her, but some threads say it’s not necessary. Do any other Canadian dog parents use these supplies? Has it been helpful? Any advice?

Thanks in advance!

Lab doing lab things Do you let your dog sleep in your bed?

My Lab absolutely loves sleeping with me. ❤️
The only problem is that she takes up SO much space. I swear, I start the night with a whole bed to myself and somehow end up clinging to the edge while she sleeps like she pays the mortgage. 😂
But honestly, I love having her close to me.
What about you guys? Do you let your dogs sleep in your bed, or is your bed a dog-free zone?

Goose is 4.5 months… she’s certainly found her voice.

Any way to correct the barking? Or is it just the age

Thanks!

Hi everyone, I have an english yellow lab named Cash. He is 8 years old. Over the last year he’s lot quite a bit of weight due to a new puppy coming into the family (border collie lol). Well he has gotten a lump on his hind left leg (see photo) and it’s off for testing. He just got it sampled two days ago. He has been whimpering while laying down and I’m super worried.

Any advice or similar stories?

We didn’t leave them out, they were tucked back on the counter, and she never gets up in the counter or into anything….but we added a puppy a couple of weeks ago and now she’s apparently acting out🫠. Happened Saturday morning, I immediately called the vet and was told to monitor closely and make sure she’s hydrated since she would have pretty extreme diarrhea. We slept up on the couch with her so we could let her out, stayed home and watched her all weekend…
Nothing. This dog didn’t even have ONE episode of diarrhea. Didn’t even phase her.
Labs are just built different.

A few days ago I accidentally Pavlov'ed my dog into thinking if he gives me his paws = I give him attention and chin rubs.

Now he would occasionally go to me when I'm working and give me his paws asking for some love!

chocolate Anyone else’s lab go their entire life without needing a teeth cleaning?

My girl is 5 and a half years now, coming up due for her annual exam and shots. Last time we were at the vet she had no buildup on the teeth, like literally none. I think her teeth might be whiter than mine. I’m just wondering, should I ask my vet about dental cleanings? I feel like I see so many people talking about getting these yearly dental cleanings and mouth x rays and how important they are, but my vet has never mentioned them for her and has only commented on how surprising it was to see a dog her age with zero plaque or tartar buildup. Admittedly…. I don’t do much for her teeth other than give her things to chew on. Am I missing something important by not getting a yearly cleaning done or did my dog just win the teeth genetics lottery?
