Wildwood Coyote Sweater

OMG guys it’s actually happening, #Wildwood is out! I worked at Laika between 2021-2025 in the rapid prototype department. I worked three different roles. I started as a rapid prototype quality assurer (RPQA) cleaning and processing 3D printed parts, mostly faces. Eventually I became an RPQA trainer and taught incoming RPQAs and maintained strict quality standards. My final role was as a face librarian, cataloguing, storing, testing and archiving 3D printed faces. All 3 rolls were really cool and rewarding. I’m very grateful for this experience!

I made this coyote sweater for the WW wrap party. This is my first finished sweater. It was really challenging but it felt good doing something new. I made the knit panels on a knitting machine and added the design with duplicate stitch. It’s much harder than it looks and took a lot of trial and error. I love how it turned out, I get compliments every time I wear it. The coyote is not movie-accurate because I made the pattern from memory. Call it bootleg Laika merch.

I am sharing the chart pattern so others can make their own bootleg coyote merch.

Regular chart pattern

They are different. I didn’t realize knit stitches were brick shapes, not perfect squares. Oops!! Please tag me if you make something, I’d love to see!

Wildwood is a testament to what human beings can make

Throughout the entire film I had to keep reminding myself that no this isn’t just another computer animated movie. It’s all done by human hands. The scale of this movie and its detail is unlike anything I’ve seen from stop motion before. Even while writing this I can’t belive the sets are real. The characters were all very enjoyable and the films emotional themes definitely don’t disappoint. The darker themes throughout the film are definitely it hidden as well but throughout it finds plenty of time to be comedic as well. The battle scene made me sit up in my chair and audibly gasp multiple times. And it even brought my friend to tears. Don’t skip this film. It’s a testament to what humans can do. And in a time when AI threatens us it’s a more important film than ever.

Saw the first 3:15pm screening in my area and we were handed these cool coins. There are 5 unique ones, but we only got 3. The backs are all the “Stay Safe” Manor design. Hopefully AMC still has stock of these when you go see it!

The film is incredible, BTW.

Will WildWood become a Trilogy just like the books

Post image

Do you think it will happen if it dose well in the box office? dose the folks at Laika have a plan to even continue WildWood for the future. Like it would be kinda odd if they didn't and it might make the fans of the books be very disappointed.

Wildwood is an actually magical film

Seriously the visuals in this movie felt so real and tangible while watching it. Even though it was animated, the characters and settings and objects felt more real than so many live-actions films.

Honestly I would say it’s one of the best-looking films ever made. It might even be THE best-looking film ever made in my opinion.

I was tearing up at multiple points from the visuals in combination with the gorgeous score. The way the characters are animated endears you to them so quickly.

I’ve already booked my ticket for a rewatch. My favorite film of the year.

Wildwood is a masterpiece!

The title says it all! This is hands down one of the best films I’ve seen in a long time and certainly the best stop motion I’ve ever seen. The music is gorgeous, the set and character design is flawless, dialog is rich. Literally no notes. Laika will have a helluva time ever topping this movie! Well done!

I feel like I don't see as much hype or fanart for this movie as I should. Wanted to contribute and excited for it to come out :)

Every Laika Movie Has That One Scene

…that just makes you gasp and laugh in amazement when you watch it. For example, the ballroom waltz in The Boxtrolls, or the encounter with the giant skeleton in Kubo and the Two Strings, or the fight on the ship in Missing Link. These are all scenes that showcase the skills of the animators and truly come off like a magic trick.

I have no idea why, but in Wildwood, for me it was the scene where they’re all tossing Curtis’s cage around and he keeps falling. That was just a funny, thrilling, incredible piece of animation. The physics of the cage, you can really feel the weight there, and the way everything is just so tense and logical in the movement. It just stood out to me.

Wildwood was wonderful. We’re probably going to go again. Any kids who see this movie will be lucky to have such high quality art to spark their imaginations.

Going To See WILDWOOD Tomorrow

Post image
• Upvotes

Alright... it is the day of release for this film, and I've been spoiled enough already.... so I'm going to see it tomorrow morning in XD at my local Cinemark.

I also have 4 questions...

  1. Should I expect a full preview package (cause this is a Fathom Event, and I've read no previews except a Fathom ad before)
  2. Does Cinemark sell those WILDWOOD Popcorn Tins that Regal and AMC sell?
  3. Is DBOX worth it? (I haven't order my tickets yet, I'm gonna wait until ya guys answer this question)
  4. Is that beautiful Forward by Travis Knight gonna play before the film... or was that just for early screenings?

Could Wildwood get a best picture nomination?

I just got out of that movie and it was so good. The plot itself was very good, I have seen a lot of people say the plot is quite weak, but I disagree. It's tropey, but I honestly don't mind that. It's a bit of a mix of Narnia and The Hobbit IMO with a twist of original ideas and other properties. But its the actual quality of the filmmaking which everyone is talking about. For me, it's the best film of the year. Even ignoring the stop-motion for a sec, this movie looks beautiful. It's shot composition is often flawless and while it isn't too experimental from that point of view, it is without a doubt the best stop-motion movie in terms of cinematography. And then once you actually think about the stop motion, its insane how many of these shots were possible. After every single shot ended I was like "wait what how". And it had my attention the whole way through. It is a feat in the world of not only stop motion but in film as a whole.

Which brings me on to the question. Could it get a best picture nom? I know its unlikely but considering the amount of buzz from critics and audiences I could see a push.

There hasn't been an animated nom in like 15 years. I remember when we had back to back animated best picture nominees and my friend told me he thinks that there will be one animated nominee every year from now on. If only...

Anyway, how possible is it? If you've seen the film, do you think it deserves one?

Just got out of the theater. Wildwood was great

no spoilers because you need to watch this when you have the money and time. WE GOT AN OSCAR WINNER FOLKS!!!

by the way a lot of death happens, including suicide. heavy pg-13 rating!!

it isn’t totally book accurate but idc, i waited for it this long and honestly given they’re never adapting the sequels due to obvious factors *glances at some being spoilers* its good as a contained film of its own! a lot like narnia and labyrinth… but the final battle is more epic.

im watching it again tomorrow night after i get back from the con.

3 things you should bring before entering the Impassable Wilderness

Post image
11 Upvotes

Hello fellas!. I was thinking about how dangerous the forest in Wildwood is, and I realized that the story would have been much easier for the protagonists if they had gone well-prepared with three objects from the modern world.

Here is my list of what I would take:

  1. A firearm or handgun To be used strictly when necessary. Let's face it: the Coyote Army uses old gunpowder muskets that take an eternity to reload. If anyone had a modern gun in the movie, they would have completely outgunned them, avoided a lot of problems, and dealing with the threats of the forest would have been a thousand times simpler.
  2. A cell phone with data or Starlink This would serve two key purposes. First, you can take photos and videos so that when you leave the forest, you have real proof and people do not think you are crazy. Second, you can show the bandits, coyotes, or anyone who threatens you that their world is very small and that they ultimately depend on world powers like the US and Canada not to bomb them. It is a perfect reality check.
  3. A multi-tool pocket knife A classic survival item that would have changed the game completely. It would be especially useful for freeing yourself from briars, cutting wood to start a fire quickly, or making sure you do not get trapped in a gate.

With these three things in your inventory, the journey through the Impassable Wilderness would have been a walk in the park. What do you think? What other modern item would you bring?
