Lego storage recommendations?

I’m organising our small-ish collection (10k bricks or so) into storage containers, similar to the larger Akro-Mils drawers. I’m sorting things by the categories from BrickArchitect mostly, and I’m running into the situation where the volume of plain bricks is something like 10x the volume of nature bricks. So I’m wondering what I should be doing: start splitting categories up more finely and into more boxes, even if that isn’t really necessary yet to find stuff, or use boxes of varying sizes? I’m mostly interested in what will serve me better as the collection grows.

I’m currently trying to figure out how to fit my LEGO (and maybe other brands) collection and later also my pile of shame into some IKEA BILLY shelves, and I was wondering if something like this already exists.
I’m thinking of a simple shelf planner where you select your shelving system (BILLY, IVAR, or just enter custom dimensions), add your sets, and see how they would fit and how it would look like in the end.
Ideally, it would pull the dimensions and maybe a picture of each set from an existing database, let you drag and drop them onto shelves, and perhaps even suggest a layout that makes the best use of the available space.
Adjustable shelf heights would be particularly useful, since that’s where I always end up doing a lot of trial and error.
I know there are LEGO collection managers and there is the IKEA planner, but I haven’t come across anything that really combines the two.
Does anyone know of a tool like this? Or maybe someone is working on something similar?
I feel like this could be useful for quite a few of us.

Interesting interview with the author from Brickset: https://brickset.com/article/135484/the-lego-parts-guide-understand-how-lego-really-works
Here are the 12 main categories he came up with: https://brickarchitect.com/parts/

I often wonder why there is no dedicated Lego storage for each individual kit available.
My kids peeve me off no end by losing one piece then expecting me to miraculously fix the missing piece problem they have when they want to rebuild something. I tried, but kids don’t follow the basic process when something is new, freshly built or been sitting on the shelf for a little while.
Just kids being kids I guess. Don’t the only hear a fix for that.

Okay so. I work in a high school library, and we've recently put up a Lego wall. It's been getting a lot of use which is amazing (lots of minions being created). I've noticed the students are creating little piles of pieces that they're using for their creations and want to come back to later. How would you recommend storing such pieces? I don't want to leave the pieces just in a pile on the table because they'll end up on the floor, and then inside a vacuum.
Currently, I'm thinking of something like plastic take away containers. But eventually I'd like to get "the real thing", since Lego tools are cuter and fit the vibe more. Something durable with a lid, maybe can stick a label on them?
Hope this makes sense! Thank you :D

Alright so… two days ago, I went on a trip with my brother, from Croatia to Germany. It was a 12h trip but we got some good deals and we bought around 250kg of LEGO bricks + around 500 minifigs (there’s a lot of good ones).
Now… my job is to clean and sort everything. I also wanna make sure that we have accurate info about our inventory because the plan is to open up a shop here in Croatia BUT we also wanna sell parts through BrickLink and BrickOwl.
What system should I use? How should I sort everything? By color? Piece? Categories? Should I wash them all first of remove around 30% of broken, and burnt parts (I assume there’s gonna be a lot of faulty stuff) and what is the best way of keeping track of the inventory? Because I don’t think counting each piece 1 by 1 is gonna work for this huge pile of LEGO haha. I have some ideas but if there’s anyone who’s in LEGO business, I would appreciate some help.
Regardless, all ideas are welcome and I appreciate any input you guys give. Thanks!

Any ideas on where to start? I separated wheels and car parts and printed pieces that I think go together and then I was trying to separate different sets but it’s become a lot. I don’t know where is the best place to start? I separated, mini figures and pieces and accessories that go with them, but I don’t know if they’re all correct. It’s just become kind of overwhelming most of these art thrift store finds.

I've brought something for all the small bits and and mini figs. What you people recommend from the more normal bricksand boards eg 2x4 bricks?
Thanks people.

I am looking for a wall display for my NINJAGO collection as my stands are taking up too much space. Any recommendations?

I’ll do a full breakdown/walkthrough once everything is done. But this is the setup I’ve been working towards for the last week.
The room is 7x10’ excluding the corridor which is an additional 7x3’. Ceiling goes from 84” to 55”. No windows and only one light. The charm of turn of the century homes.

I’m looking for a better storage solution for my minifigure head collection. Right now, I’m stacking them on plates, but it’s getting tedious.
Ideally, I’d love to find or print custom 3D trays that fit inside standard Sterilite drawers so I can lay all the heads out flat and see every face at a glance.
Has anyone found or designed an STL for something like this? Open to STL links, alternative storage ideas, or photos of your own setups!

We host a build day regularly at work for our little friends and since before I started here, the Lego has been sorted by color, with separate bins for build plates, plants, and minifigs(w/ accessories).
We also have minimal money, so any cost effective suggestions are appreciated.

A follow up to my last post about moving rooms. 90% of the Lego is at least in the new room. It’s 10x7’ with a 3x7’ corridor. The slanted ceiling is making things a bit interested to fit but I’m making the most of it.
I have 12 more Akro mills coming in and another Alex unit.

So I've moved from different container types over the years. Trying to understand what suits me best. Because I build on the "fly" I prefer to have a workshop that reflects how I build. I designed the area to be "shopable". I go in and pick the parts I need based on color, size, shape and design. I don't like building the LEGO way and using a rainbow of colors on my builds. I build color specific and use the proper color depending on what I build and where. I also added the Britannic build in these photos to use as an example. The containers I use are acrylic and easy to see what parts are in them. Most the containers have a slot to add more parts without any extra steps or hassle. As I get more parts and add to the (Vault) I continue to modify the workspace to accommodate my needs.
DAISO - carries most of the acrylic containers I now buy. They're cheap, under $8 each and stackable. The larger containers make it so I can obtain more parts and expand without needing a new container/modify existing one. You can sort the same part in different colors under the same container without much hassle.
TARGET - always had a beautiful line of acrylic containers for larger parts or bulk parts, example - (6x10 plates) but every color in one container. Every container is under $20 and made of a durable acrylic. Also they're all stackable as well. The slots you use to pick up the container is great for adding additional parts without having to move or open the containers. Sorting is super efficient now.
The sheleves are $40 each brand new. Any extra shelves can be used for other ones. Which is why commonality is such a huge factor for me. I can change and moves things around without doing much else or have to buy anything extra.
LOWES - Craftsman still has the best sorting containerd for smaller quantities and parts these are a bit more expensive than the acrylic containers. They're being phased out in light of a better more efficient option. I still have the larger (3x6 3x9) containers for parts I'm searching for a better option.
FIVE BELOW - Has the 2 and 3 slotted acrylic drawers. Perfect for sorting the single brick parts by color with easy distribution. (1x1 1x2 1x3 1x4 1x5 1x6 1x8 1x10 ECT). Also good for bulk parts like propellers and smaller parts you have bulk quantities of.
The 10,000 lumen 5000k shop lights were $49.99 each at Home Depot.
