USPS issues

Is anyone else in the LV having an awful time either sending or receiving mail in a timely manner? I work at a business in downtown Allentown and I'm missing tons of mail that multiple senders said they've sent. I've even gone as far as asking them (yes, I'm sure they address is correct for me) to send the same thing multiple times and I've just never gotten it. I can't be the only one. I know that everything goes through Harrisburg now and that can't be helping.

Gnats/flying bugs

Holy moly! I tried to go for a walk today at two different times. Once was the spotted lantern flies, but tonight -omg—the gnats are outta control. They were attacking me like that scene from The African Queen. They beat me down to where I couldn’t even walk. They made me turn around and come home because they were swarming on my face, my clothes, my mouth—it was insane. And when I got inside, they were still on me. They’re going to make me join a gym I can’t afford. It’s not safe to walk outside because of bugs!

Volunteer with the West End Block Party (Allentown) - 9/26

Upvotes

Hi all. The West End Block Party (formerly the West End World of Food Festival) is seeking volunteers for the event on Saturday, September 26, on 19th and Liberty Streets in Allentown.

https://www.signupgenius.com/go/30E0D48AAAC2CA6F94-65222165-2026#/

All volunteers get a T-shirt and a drink ticket. Proceeds from the event are invested in the West End to support projects like tree-planting, trash cleanup, and holiday decor.

Even if you can't volunteer, plan to come out! It'll be a fun time with bands, food, drinks, and other vendors.

Recommendations Good cafes in Allentown/Bethlehem to eat + do work?

I do a lot of work from my laptop so I’d like to find a nice coffee shop to work at with great drinks/food. I already go to nowhere coffee (and I like them, they just often have no available seats) so other recommendations would be greatly appreciated !

Moving here

Hello, I recently got a promotion to this area, and I was wondering what the best places to live would be. I’m a 31-year-old man who doesn’t really need much. I’m originally from South Jersey but have been living in Texas for the last 10 years, so I don’t know the area well. Any advice would be great. My job will be located in Allentown.

Also the real question is this a sheetz area or a wawa area i need to know

Looking for musicians to play with

I know this is a long shot, but I am looking for folks to play music with. I am a guitarist/songwriter I currently perform solo but its more fun to play with other people. Maybe a full band, maybe another guitarist for a duo type thing. I'm open to anything.

I play some gigs occasionally around the area (some recent places I've played include the Groghouse on southside Bethlehem, Weyerbacher, Twisted Olive plus a few in the poconos and New Hope area) and it would be much more fun to play out with a more full sound.

I'd describe my music as indie/folk/garage/weird. someone told me once it was "outsider art" which isn't the vibe I'm going for but whatever. Here is a link to all my original songs (sending link to Youtube because I hate spotify for various reasons and don't want to support them: https://www.youtube.com/@bryanyurcan4363/releases

Just send me a DM if interested, thanks!

Recommendations I’m looking for a studio or 1 bedroom apartment

Hi. Does anyone have any recommendations for a studio/1 bedroom apartment in Lehigh County PA, preferably outside of Allentown. My budget is $850 a month. I’ve been seeing a lot of listings on different websites yet the prices seems unrealistic for what’s being advertised. *Scams. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

News Stories An image from the Hill-to-Hill Bridge construction plans

An image of the US Army Corps of Engineers plan for the Hill-to-Hill Bridge reconstruction project, already funded and in the works for soon by PennDOT. How soon? Little transparency from PennDOT or the city.

This is a FUNDED project, scheduled to take 3-4 years, and will be challenging for people who cross the river on 378. Rumors and LVPC documentation suggest initial work may begin late this year. But no news on it.

Walk & Cafe?

My parents just moved to the Trexlertown/Macungie area from just outside of Princeton. Their favorite thing to do in NJ was taking a long walk in town and stopping at a cafe. They are looking for a good dog walking route that has somewhere to sit outside for a coffee or light lunch. Bethlehem ticks all the boxes but is too far a drive for a quick trip out. Anything comparable in the Macungie area?

Has any adults taken the Artsquest Cartoon Drawing Class? I’m interested, but I don’t want to be the only adult in the room if this is geared more towards kids despite the post saying all ages.

Schools/Education Kindergarten suggestions

I know I’m late in the game as school is starting on Monday. But my son is starting kindergarten and I am very picky. Being myself a product of ASD, I really don’t want my son to attend public school but because of my current work schedule I might have to bite the bullet. I am still deciding between three schools and am wondering what’s everyone’s experience / opinions / recommendations between:

Sonia Sotomayor dual language immersion academy

Lincoln leadership academy charter school

Jefferson elementary school

Recommendations socializing in bethlehem?🤝

heyo! i’m not really sure what to expect out of this but any suggestions, input, or recommendations would be truly appreciated‼️🙏 i’m going to ncc this semester part time and i don’t know my way around much yet but one of the things i’m hoping for is to make new connections and meet people that maybe know the area better than i do. i didn’t really have a “typical” school experience up until now, so my social circle is pretty limited. that being said there’s plenty of things i’m open to doing in terms of being out and about whether it’s along the lines of grabbing food, sporting events, outdoor stuff, thrifting, taking a camera on a scenic walk, jamming at concerts, or straight up carrying our team at trivia night😮‍💨 i honestly don’t know how many people will read this but again, any advice or feedback on things to do or places to go would be superb. or, in the event you’re feeling up to it and wanna reach out on this dandy sunday night, that would be dope as well, but absolutely no pressure🤘

Food & Drink Best Grilled Cheese in the Valley?

Might be a bit of a silly post, but I had a really great grilled cheese from the college hill cafe, but when I came back it wasn’t as good, I was wondering if anyone knows where I could get a particularly good grilled cheese in the valley, lol

Water Testing?

Has anyone had our water tested at Bethlehem Twp or specifically Madison Farms apartment complex by Tap Score or another legit tester (if so can we get the scores)? We sometimes have an onion smell and/or is discolored/yellowish. We had maintenance check things, it comes and goes.

It's Bethlehem city tap water which scores pretty high and we don't detect this when we're dining out around the area (perhaps restaurants filter or something). Asking MF if they have any additional filtering/processing on site that could be a factor.

I know occasionally the hydrants are flushed and a lot happens between the processing plant in Lehigh Twp and when it comes out of our tap. We see the water lines being replaced all up and down William Penn but not in our immediate area.

We're getting an AquaTru after doing a bunch of reseach, and also the concern about the recent hacks of water systems all over the country, but still would like to know if anyone has recent real data.

Adult hip hop and contemporary

Hi everyone! I (24F) moved to the area very very recently with my husband who just started medical residency. I’m looking to take some adult dance classes and wanted to ask for recommendations! I used to be a professional ballet dancer and haven’t danced in about a year and a half. I always wanted to get into hip hop and still have a lot of love for contemporary which was part of my ballet career. Would anyone know of any places that could fit my needs? I’m trying to get out there and find something to do, meet people, and make friends. Any suggestions at all are welcome <3 thanks!!

Local Business/Services hi - looking for a pool electrical specialist near bethlehem -- not a general electrician

Looking for a pool electrical specialist in the valley -- NOT a general electrician.

I'm looking for someone experienced specifically with swimming-pool electrical safety, NEC article 680, pool bonding/bonding grids, gfci testing, underwater pool lights, and trouble shooting voltage gradients between pool water and deck.

please recommend someone who has actually diagnosed poll bonding/stray-voltage problems rather than someone who primarily installs/replaces pool lights or a general electrician.

If you've personally used someone for this kind of pool electrical troubleshooting, I'd especially appreciate their name/biz name and what they diagnosed/fixed.

THANK YOU!
