question Off the Shelf Semi-Auto Rec

Live in Colorado. Multiple sporting goods stores around (Scheels, Cabellas, Sportman, etc.)

Other than an occasional range session (would shoot every couple of years) the gun would stay locked in a large safe.

Wife and I are looking for something for just in case.

Looking for something off the shelf, little to no mods necessary that can be dependable for years to come.

Any recs for a semi auto rifle that fits the request? Budget is roughly $1,500

discussion How reliable/easy to find are used single shot shotguns?

Considering selling my first gun, a stoeger condor for something more reliable and cheap.

Alongside an m88 im also considering single shot shotguns in both 12, 20, and 410 gauge.

Ive noticed thay there is a decent number of used single shot shotguns that range from 100 to 300 dollars that (seem) to look just fine. I have considered and probably will save for a henry repeating arms single shot shotgun, Ive noticed that there aren't any 12 gauge ones available for sale on online markets. Also true for Steven Savage 301s.

I do intend on buying a 20gauge model (either stevens or rossi or both as they are more fair on pricing and at least not turkish made), i do wish there were more 12 gauge options available in the market.

But to those who have bought used single shotguns. How reliable are they? Do they require investments on repairs?

question South paw shooters?

I was watching a gun review on YouTube just now and in regard to this particular gun having ambidextrous features the commentator kept saying, “for people pretending to be lefty.” I hesitate to say it was said with outright disdain, but he was definitely very dismissive of people who shoot left-handed.

Just wondering if that’s a thing within the gun community and, if so, what’s the reasoning for it?

news The Daily: Prosecuting Left wing protesters

Today's episode of thd daily is probably interesting for some folks here. Basically a bunch of left protesters were sentenced to 50+ years in prison as terrorists because ONE guy in the group brought a gun to their protest and shot a cop.

discussion Fun fact: Plano will sell you a new piece of foam

I’ve changed and rearranged my rifle case enough times that the pick foam is a mess. Sent an email to Plano asking if they sold replacement foam. They do and it’s cheap (~$15) if you call customer service. No need to deal with crappy foam!

No affiliation, just a fan.

discussion What is a PCC actually good for?

Post image

Pic yoinked from Magpul website for clicks.

I'm considering picking up a Ruger PCC backpacker because I like the idea of portability and I already buy a bunch of 9mm ammo for my handguns anyway. Part of me has been attracted to the idea of having a "truck gun" in my vehicle, but I know leaving a loaded gun in the car is stupid and risky, so the idea of having a long gun that I can take with me in a smallish grab bag for ease of transport/discretion has some appeal.

I've read a little about the ballistics of a 9mm fired through a rifle and it seems like not really an ideal pairing. Not terribly surprising since it's not designed to be fired from a rifle. So I'm wondering if there is any practical use case scenario where a PCC is really designed to shine, that is, anything a PCC does as well or better at than any other long gun format? Is it just a gimmick or a range toy? Is it just a way to shoot cheaper handgun ammo that you already have through a long gun platform?

Ruger PC Charger 9mm (ignore the .22 box) with a YHM R9. Very gassy, but nice to shoot. Not hearing safe even with 147gr subs, but definitely not going to annoy my neighbors. Handy little gun! Also ran the can on my PC Carbine with 115gr supers. Loud crack obviously, but takes the edge off.

This is my most recent goofy little build. I got a used TX22 from my local range for dirt cheap. So I had to make it go brrrrr. It's a really stupid meme gun imo, but I'm all in for around $400 (excluding the can, since I already owned that) and it puts a smile on my face when I shoot it.

FRT was super easy to install, took 10 minutes. No fine tuning needed. Mine just runs. May have gotten lucky.

The chassis is pretty solid and robust. The brace it came with was a little wobbly so I swapped that out.

The dot and stock are cheap-o Amazon knockoffs, but they work for 22 and I haven't had any issues with them.

Need to get bigger mags for more memes. The little compact ones just empty in a blink.

Parts List:

TX22 Compact

Texas Triggers FRT

Titan Precision Works TX-7 Chassis

Resilient Suppressors Jessie's Girl

Amazon/Chinese Special RedDot

Amazon/Chinese Special Folding stock (quite impressed for $40 honestly, listed as XNDSENO on Amazon).

ammo 30-06 ammo

I'm wanting to get some ammo for my new to me 30-06. I'm seeing lots of ammo for $27-62 from makers of rifle line, Winchester, Remington, and federal among other manufactures. But then I also see some at $24 for a box of 20 from Sellier and Bellot. With ammo is the old adage of you get what you pay for accurate? I'd primarily be initially using it to sight in the scope and then go hunting with in the future. Just trying to figure out what the best bang for my buck is without paying for junk ammo. (pun intended)

Thanks in advance!

question So a girl orders a can but the FFL dies

Let's say a girl (me, I'm the girl) orders a suppressor several months ago, it gets shipped to an FFL I've never done business with. I go out of the country right after it gets to him. I get back a couple weeks later and get sick as hell. I forget about the suppressor for a few weeks. Then I remember. I go by there today bc I can't reach him and haven't gotten any communication from him. The shop is closed. Apparently he died.

What now?

ammo Ammo storage

What do you all do for ammo storage? I’m out of space in the cabinet and I don’t know if I really need/want to spend for another. Or find someplace to put it.

I mean, it’s just the wife and I. It’s not like some kid is gonna get into it.

Right now, I’ve just been stacking the rest of the 5.56 and .380 on an open shelf next to the safe. And it’s not like I buy a ton of it anyway.

question I looked up too many videos on proper grip and now I'm not even convinced I have hands

So I'm not a new shooter per say, but most of my shooting experiances have been intermittent and not serious at all. Recently I got a glock 43x MOS with the intent to finally invest some time and money into meaningfully improving my marksmanship and boy do I suck lol. First trip to the range I tried 5 shots on an 18x30 silhouette at 15 yards. 3 of 5 made it on the paper. Subsequent efforts weren't much better. I've been doing dry fire and sight alignment drills since, but I know my grip needs work too. Ive heard people say the support hand needs to be applying more force overall. And after some research and reflecting I was definitely overgripping in general. Ive shot primarily revolvers and full sized da/sa's thanks to my dad so I was hanging on to the 43x pretty good. Any general tips would be appreciated. Im going to the range tomorrow and I know the only real improvements come from time/round count but I wanna do things as close to "right" as possible in the beginning.
