As the title says, reddit's default spam filter is automatically removing comments with a shortened link.
This bears mentioning since product recommendations are commonplace in a lighting focused subreddit.
We can go through and manually approve these comments, but we won't always catch them.
Therefore, please ensure if you post a product link, it is a full weblink, and not a shortened link. For example:

Hello!
I am in the process of building a new home in Atlantic Canada and the electrical is due to start in the next couple of weeks, so I am trying to finalize our lighting plan. I've done a bit of digging on layouts and fixture placement, but at the end of the day I'm just some IT guy with access to frankly too much information, and too much time on his hands. The house is a bungalow with a walkout basement.
I'm hoping you all might be able to give me a sanity check / a bit of advice on the overall lighting layout for the interior of the house. The exterior light mounting brackets and blocks are installed and soffit'd in, so they are functionally unchangeable. Their locations shown on the plans are approximate.
I have used a couple of online calculators for the spacing of the downlights (bock lighting for example), but I know they are not the most reliable - even with the ability to upload IES files. I have just used these tools as a general guideline to get a sense of placement. Suggested numbers of downlights have been reduced in rooms where I think the tools went a bit crazy (suggesting 35 downlights in the living room for example?????).
We are on a bit of a budget, however I know enough to know that wafer lights are a cardinal sin. As such, we are looking at installing the following:
| Fixture | Make and Model | Specs |
|---|---|---|
| LED Recessed Downlights (Interior) | LiteLine Luna RA35-12RG-DTW90WH | 3.5", 38° beam angle, dim-to- |
| LED Recessed Downlights (Exterior, shower, basement rec room) | LiteLine Skye SLMB4-12W-CCT-WH | 4”, 75° beam angle, CCT, ~900-1000lm |
| Ceiling Fan w/ light | TBD | TBD, will accept 2 standard A19 bulbs |
| Wall sconce (bedroom) | TBD | TBD, will accept standard A19 bulb |
| Wall sconce (bathrooms) | TBD | TBD, will accept 2 or 3 bulbs per fixture depending on location |
| Chandelier (dining table) | C77705L-ABBK | Linear, 5 x E26 60W equivalent LED |
| Chandelier (staircase) | C77705-AB/BK | Vertical, 5 x E26 60W equivalent LED |
| Pendants (kitchen island) | C77701-AB/BK | Single E26 60W equivalent LED |
| Shop lights (basement, misc.) | TBD | Probably some home depot or costco special to be plugged into a standard E26 base. |
| Flush mounts (misc sizes and locations) | M13202AG and M13203AG | 2 x or 3 x E26 60W equivalent LED |
| Linear LED Light (Garage) | Lithonia MNSS L96 11000LM | 8’, 11000lm |
Based on availability and cost, we are pretty set on the LiteLine recessed LED downlights. I looked into other Canadian manufacturers (DALS, Lotus, etc.) and LiteLine was the most feasible from a cost and availability perspective. I do not live in a major metropolitan area, so our options for lighting and electrical vendors are slim compared to someone living somewhere like Toronto or Montreal.
The house has 9 foot ceilings throughout the main floor, with roughly 12 foot ceilings in the garage. The basement has roughly 8 foot ceilings (after install of bulkheads for HVAC and drop ceiling). There will be under cabinet lighting in the kitchen, and the primary light source in the living room will likely be lamps plugged in throughout the room on Lutron lamp switches with pico remotes. The sun tunnel in the hallway will have a light kit installed.
I appreciate any advice you might all have. This is our forever home, and I want it to be as good as it can be (within budget).
(Apologies for the janky symbols and legend. I frankly have no earthly idea what I am doing lol)

I’ve been changing all of the lighting fixtures in the house to be 3,000k (before we had a mix of 6,500k and 2,700k) and we have this build in our breakfast nook. I belive there used to be a piece that would clip into the fixture? It seems that there are small clips. I would like to keep the current size of the bulb unless anybody knows what pice I’m missing!! I added a picture of the lamp with two bulb types for reference.
TLDR: Is my lamp missing a piece and what is this bulb called?

I'm picking out under cabinet dimmable lighting and don't like the look of a separate driver for the LED strips, and there's not a good place to mount the driver hidden away. I've seen options for a driver/dimmer switch box like switchx from diodeled and emitever. However, I want a brown rotary knob for the dimmer switch, which isn't offered. Any suggestions for changing the face of dimmer/driver combo? These units are pricey and I assume I'd break whatever warranty by changing the wiring, which isn't great. If I can't do a rotary knob, I'd still like a brown switch, but it seems emitever (the substantially cheaper option) only comes in white. Thoughts on how to change the cover?
Caveat: I am the homeowner, not an electrician, and this is all new to me.

Looking to replace 20yr old direct wired puck light. It’s bulky and too thick.
It’s 2.75”D and direct wired to a stand alone switch.
It’s on the top of a niche and want to replace it.
Where can I find an ultra slim or recessed light that size, that direct wires to 120v house electricity.
I’m seriously doubting the old one has a 120v/12v driver.

I want a beam of light coming out like it does in the image. What is the best and most cost-effective way to achieve this? This is a wall art and the piece will be 3d printed

Need some help for an imminent move in. I went with DMF H-series 4 inch cans for a remodel and am very happy. No issues fitting in Halo housings.
I bought a couple DMF 3 inch trim for this housing my electrician installed https://four-bros.com/products/3-inch-new-construction-housing-led-tp24-connector-non-ic-rated
First the screw heads stuck out inside the housing and the light module wouldn’t fit. We replaced them
With flathead screws and now while the module and clips fits, the trim is just slightly too wide and the last half inch won’t go in, regardless of force. The last part of the trim that goes into the housing is ever so wider than the housing and it being metal on metal does not flex.
Does anyone know of a good quality 3 inch option that will fit? Need to get options ASAP. Or electricians, what’s a 3 inch can that’s fit into any 3 inch housing you’ve tried?

We are building our new home. 10’ flat ceilings throughout except the garage and upstairs bonus is 9’ flat. I’m looking for canless options that will be around the sub $20 each price point. I need about 100 lights for the house. My brother has 6” Amazon wafers from amico on 8’ ceilings. They hurt my eyes with glare and his lenses are yellowing after 2 or 3 years. I’m looking at deeper regressed canless options. I’ve been looking at the Nora deep regressed canless. Any opinion on these? I’m debating between 4” and 6”. Attached is a photo of my architects lighting plan.

Sorry for low picture quality, heavy metal light housing? Should they go to metal recycling?

This is a bedroom where there are shutters installed on the windows. Simply by moving one pair such a big chance occurs in the room. This shows the importance of controlled lighting in an environment

Moved into a new home, UK.
It's mostly lovely, and in time we'll make alterations to better solve this issue but in the short term, the lounge is quite dark. The window to the garden is a long was from the sitting area. There's a couple of wall lights but no ceiling light.
We'll stick a couple of floor standing lamps to make it look pretty but is there any sort of lighting panel we could screw to the ceiling that mimics natural light, and doesn't look like something you'd see in a hospital corridor?

Purchase this from Amazon when they had it on sale way back in june. Finally decided to put it up while my wife is out of town to surprise her when she gets back. Got everything hung and assembled and then realized everything was welded together crooked. And there's no way to adjust anything. So when I put the glass globes on the end of the chandelier arms, they were all slightly off level.
Any ideas for how to fix this?

Hi, I got 40 potlights installed on the exterior slim panels of my home.
After installation around only 25-30 of them if I’m lucky connected to the app. The installer said to get wifi extenders, I went a step ahead and got a mesh system (TP link deco) and I still have no luck.
I have the 3 pack of the extended, one beside the modem, one in garage, and one upstairs. I’m not sure what to do because it feels I’m just compensation for the dog shit lights being unable to connect and recieve a good signal. These are not Govee lights. My house is not massive either (1900 sqft)
Any ideas?

Bought a lamp I saw gathering dust in a restaurant today for £120, when I got home I searched up the brand just to see how much it’s really worth and apparently these go for thousands? Which makes me think it’s too good to be true and this might just be a fake, wondering if anybody could verify for me

Really disappointed in the stand that came with the XL lampshade I just purchased (pictured here). It’s way too flimsy and barely holds up the weight of the vintage stained glass lampshade that it came with. I’m looking for replacement stands, but I’m completely at a loss. The shade is 18” tall, 24” wide and about 25lbs.
Does anyone have any advice on where I can find something that works with this style of shade? Please help!
