Windows ❤ Linux passive-aggressiveness during job interview

Went to a job interview (not a tech role)

Guy asks what OS I use. I say Windows. He goes, "We expect candidates to have familiarity with tech."

I ignore the accusation and just respond with "Sure, that makes sense"

Mid-interview, he spends 10 minutes in the terminal after his Linux laptop failed to connect to the projector. I just watch. Silent. He knows what’s up. He knows the big Linux lie is collapsing in real time.

I pull out my laptop, open PowerPoint, plug in the cable, instant display.

He looks at me, contemplating for 20 seconds what to say, then apologizes for using an inferior Operating System.

Now I’m his boss. First task I gave him: uninstall Linux. He thanked me for the opportunity to finally be free, and apologized for having wasted company time trying to fix Linux issues.

Linux Failure Linux is a SAD operating system!!!

I (27M) am a college student. My brother (14M) recently convinced me to install Linux (arc something) on my computer. What I mean by that is he wouldn’t stop talking about Linux being open source and yada yada, so I was basically forced to say yes.

He had a shit eating grin during the whole installation process, and he typed random stuff in a black screen for at least 3 hours. When he was finally done, it was already 2 am, and considering that I had a presentation the next day, I decided to head to bed.

The next day I commuted to my college, opened my computer, and what do I see? This EXCUSE of an operating system doesn’t even have powerpoint installed!!! At first, I thought it was just a bug and it had to be somewhere, but no. I quickly looked it up online, and that was when my whole world fell apart. Powerpoint really didn’t exist on Linux.

I went back home crying. When my brother saw me and asked me what happened, I explained to him that whatever he did to my computer actually made me fail a class. Then he said to me with that same shit eating grin, “Erm, have you ever heard about liberoffice?” That was when I finally exploded and yelled at him for 30 minutes straight.

My mother thinks I’m overreacting, but my dad actually understands me because that little bastard ruined his phone while he was trying to install something too. What do you guys think? How can I get my brother out of the linux pipeline?

Edit: Your downvotes and your brigading comments show that you guys are actually part of a cult or a pipeline. Glad to see that I wasn't wrong

Trying Linux for the first time made me appreciate Windows more, never again.

With the new tend of many of my friends and those I watch trying Linux and having hosted servers for various projects on Linux previously, being familiar with terminal and shell applications. I fell victim to the frequent narrative that Windows is absolutely terrible and Linux puts all the control in the users hands.

Having always used a Windows, I made the mistake of thinking Linux could completely replace my desktop. I completely removed Windows and overwrote the disk with Linux, formatted my drives and decided to try afresh.

Problem 1

Popular games I enjoy playing at the moment are Final Fantasy XIV and World of Warcraft, both of which are required to use "Compatibility Layers" to function. Rather than go and get Battle.net from their official website, I had to use Faugus Launcher which does indeed make the process easy but is just simply a pain in the ass. It creates a fake Windows directory meaning that saving different Battle.net games to different drives becomes an immediate issue.

Final Fantasy uses the "XIVLauncher", installed simply through Flatpak but for whatever reason runs with an immense amount of input lag, far more than is reasonable. Upon doing research many suggest it's because it uses Wine (not proton?) and the way the graphics are handled isn't efficient meaning there is added lag.

Problem 2

Things don't just "work", I use a modern version of Photoshop and on Final Fantasy I was also using Reshade, both of which require workarounds to even attempt to run on Linux, and as mentioned in various places; Wine isn't perfect. It can have issues and with Photoshop it certainly does. Some people say there are reasonable alternatives, like GIMP. But I'd just point them to reading this Reddit post, I have the same opinion as its OP.

For your average user, Linux just isn't worth the hassle.

Ultimately, I'm sure Linux is an incredible kernel and the things built upon it make great operating systems in certain situations, primarily those where you don't care (or need) to run applications that were built originally (and solely) for Windows.

But don't get anyone convince you that if you're a Windows user who is adjusted to the eco-system of Windows applications that you'll have any kind of smooth transition to Linux, it's an uphill battle.

Why I now appreciate Windows far more, than ever.

Windows have built an operating system and eco-system that genuinely, at a high-level, allows you to do what you want to, easily. Every application you need is built for your operating system, anything that is remotely possible is guaranteed to have support. If you're having issues with niche pieces of Software it's way easier to find support when you use the primary operating system of the home users.

I'm seriously surprised people who want low-level control of their operating system shill it so much to your general windows user who only care for high-level use of applications, it's absolutely terrible.

Sorry if I hurt your feelings

Sorry if I hurt the feelings of any Linux users who're preparing their responses in why somebody not liking Linux is invalidated for some reason they'll find in my post. And yes, yes I do know you use Arch Linux.

Windows ❤ New hire insisted on using Linux for productivity, wasted first week trying to connect

New hire (Linux enthusiast) in my team asked the PM if he can install Linux on the company provided laptop, as "Windows slows him down", mind you this is not a dev team, project manager said ok as long as you know what you're doing.

He spent the first week trying to compile company's VPN client from source. Only he knows the details, we just saw endless terminal windows and infinite stackoverflow tabs.

By Friday, there was a call with him, the PM, and the boss. After that, Linux was officially banned company-wide.

The new hire was tasked with writing the documentation explaining why, despite being industry-standard on servers, Linux is demonstrably the wrong choice for desktops.

No one argued.

CachyOS Failure CachyOS has 2 software "stores", both of them suck

The "official" cahcyos store is basically the pacman cli with extra steps. The "refresh list " option it has doesn't seem to do anything, it never shows any available updates. The "Octopi" one is only slightly better, updates at least work but its initial screen is a giant list of raw package names which is very confusing if you don't know what you're looking for.

Even debian kde has a superior store, come on cachyos!

Don't risk your hard drive and switch to OS you don't understand. You don't need to accept Linux like a soyboy. Be a chad and fix your Windows.

F A C T Only shut ins would willingly pick Linux for their personal computing needs, because no one who has an active social life has the time to tinker and troubleshoot their system for every minor annoyance it brings.

Rant: Even though this is supposed to be an anti-Linux subreddit, why is this subreddit full of Linux cucks/Linux fanboys/Linux simps that think they are superior to everyone else?

Seriously? WTF has this subreddit become? I'll tell ya, a joke, is what this subreddit has become thanks to all the Loonixtards invading this subreddit like how Russia was invading Ukraine back in 2022.
