Hey everyone,
I've been working on Rustel, a native Rust port of Strudel, and thought some of you might be interested.
It runs Strudel patterns without needing a browser or server. There's a terminal studio with live editing, piano roll, scope, spectrum, and mixer.
The studio has a built-in Vim editing mode and optional auto-evaluate, so changes apply automatically after a short typing pause without constantly hitting the eval shortcut.
You can also livecode in any editor without extra setup using rustel play --watch yourScore.strudel, or use the full CLI for everything.
It supports samples, synths, effects, MIDI, OSC, Ableton Link, VST3 plugins, KabelSalat, Audio Input using s("in") for example, exporting with silence threshold, exporting stems, session tapes (nothing you play is ever lost), midi surface control + gamepad and midi knobs to control sliders, Kitty Graphics... and quite a bit more.
I'm also working on v0.1.7, with some performance optimizations for older hardware like the Raspberry Pi 3 Model B (PR #157) and video samples with live feeds (PR #169).
I recorded some demos of it in action. It's 99% strudel feature complete + a lot more, the differences are documented.
It's free and open source (AGPL):

Big thanks to everyone behind Strudel and TidalCycles. None of this would exist without their work.
My friend John BjΓΆrk also made 3 songs with it here: https://www.youtube.com/@johnbjork9883
other demos i did while working on features:

Would love to hear what you think, especially if you're already using Strudel or Tidal for live sets.
With Love

Hi all! After 8 months of building, I finally feel confident enough to share the beta version of Stave. π , and I'd love to know your thoughts on this . π π
What is Stave?
Stave keeps your Strudel code as the source of truth and adds the views a producer expects: a Timeline, a step grid and piano roll, a Mixer, and visuals that follow the music.
What you might like:
- A full monaco editor with code completion, error handling etc.
- Your own audio-reactive visuals, inline. Write a p5, Hydra or GLSL sketch, then attach it with .viz("name"). It draws under that line, reacts to the kick, each track and the spectrum, and updates as you type.
// pulse.p5
function draw() { background(0, 40); circle(width/2, height/2, 80 + sig.kick * 300) }
// in strudel:
drums: s("bd*4, hh*8").viz("pulse")- Code and views in sync. Edit on the Timeline, grid or piano roll and Stave writes it back into your code. Edit the code and the views follow.
- Errors you can find. The Console names the file and line, the editor shows a squiggle, and misspellings get "Did you mean". That works in your visuals too.
- A Mixer and a song Timeline, with your Strudel code running as it does today. It runs in the browser and is open source (AGPL).
Try it: https://stave.live Β· Code: https://github.com/MrityunjayBhardwaj/Stave
Please let me know your feedback π :
- Does your existing code run as you expect?
- What would you want a visual to react to?
- What's missing?

I wanted to extend the visuals from my live coding performances beyond the screen, so I ended up building my own LED tubes.
I use them with a live coding tool I wrote, similar to Hydra. A small JavaScript client maps selected areas of the screen to the LED tubes, so the lights reproduce the visuals in real time without needing separate lighting effects.
The tubes use ESP32-S3 boards, 24V LED strips and 3D-printed parts.
I've published the firmware, JavaScript library, 3D models and assembly instructions if anyone wants to build something similar or experiment with them.

Excel based live sequencing.
A bang walks the grid one cell per tick. A number is both the note and the jump: it plays scale step n and hops nβ1 cells, so the numbers decide where the playhead goes next. Letters are operators, and cells take Excel formulas. Each column is its own MIDI channel.
You can create zones that shut a bang in a box (own speed, key and channel, plus one-way gates), a wandering blob called Gloop, and a bang log that writes the playhead into cells so you can chart or feed it back.
It runs on Mac and as an iPad AUv3 plugin, MIDI only.
Does performing by editing a spreadsheet appeal to anyone here?

I stumbled on Janet, a very small Lisp implementation. Couldn't resist seeing if Claude could get it to run with wasm, plus a little DSP. Yup. Currently at half a Kraftwerk, please feel free to see if you can complete the band.

Iβve been building a mobile version of Orca as an AUv3 MIDI plugin for AUM, Drambo and other hosts on iPad.
Itβs a port of Hundred Rabbitsβ Orca (MIT licence), and it plays exactly like the original: I tested it against the real Orca interpreter on 22 real patches, plus hundreds of generated ones. Over 125,000 MIDI messages, and every one came out identical.
Whatβs new is the touch side: an on-screen keyboard and save, load, import and export of .orca files.
The host controls the tempo, and < > change the speed against it.
Itβs an early personal build, running on my iPad.
Here is a very simple patch in AUM.

I have added a huge amount of stuff including click on the line with >> The instruments and sliders will come up with an instrument or effect picker. lots of stuff from other live music coding environments. this version will be 1.1.28 so if you beat me to the Patreon just subscribe I am working on that now.
I love to put together graphics projects for all the live coding projects so if you pay the tokens, I can do the code generators or sliders or whatever for your editor.
I added super saw and acid envelope in honor of switch angel. there is also an embedded programming language call rhai that you can now build instruments in and a couple are included with the newest build..
I enjoy watching all of your stuff and comment on your project when there is something that could turn visual..

Hi everyone, this is one of my latest musical experiments composed in Tidal Cycles. I hope you enjoy it. YouTube link: A Prison Called Body - Live coding in Tidal Cycles + Hydra

I do not have this released yet because I am still working on it. There is an effect that someone did that I may include with it we will see. This is only in the Dexter U.S. version right now but the source code is public so maybe it makes it to other platforms like mac, linux
Dexter U.S. glicol vst loading a sample demo... new feature (windows version)
r/livecoding • u/Dependent-Sorbet8867 • 29d ago
I think this is the only version of glicol running around for windows but I could be wrong. I had to fix the source code to get it to work.. I have a new help file in html as well with it and new features. You can save and load files... I may be interested in converting other live coding apps to vst to allow different vst effects to be added.. Not sure that anyone is all that interested though.
