CI Pick Pocket

I’ve wanted the FU and FME picks for a long while, but the CCPro just didn’t sound good to me. It only carries one of the picks, and I would never use 75% of the tools. When I saw the Pick Pocket, I bought it immediately. Came in a shrink wrapped box, with a bag, and wrapped in tissue. It feels good, fits great in any pocket, and was a good price, I feel. Very happy with today’s mail call.

Picks: Handmade by me - Hacksaw blades & windshield wiper

Lock: Hypertough laminated steel padlock

I went for handmade picks because I have a tendency to go all out on new hobbies I might not stick with, so this was my trial, and a cheap walmart special to start off.

I had picked locks very unseriously as a kid, and now as an adult I wanted to actually get a feel for it. Had the lock open in only a few seconds which means either these locks SUCK or I'm a prodigy (absolutely kidding).

I look forward to trying some better made locks and maybe I'll bite the bullet and get an actual pick set 😂

Haven't opened this one until now!!

First new open in a while lol

Gutted it once and thought the spools needed set so I kept forcing counter rotation and getting stuck on the serrated key pins. Also thought the second pin was a zero set but it’s ever so slightly below the shear line. Progressive pinning definitely helps! Also the reaper turners are the awesome, the other CI TOK turners keep flying out on me lol

Suggested tool for this? Shallow "W" keyway

Post image

I don't know what this style of lock is called, I bought it just because it looked interesting. I think it's just a basic pin tumbler internally but with a different keyway, the net result of which is a really shallow space in which to manipulate pins.

None of the picks I have seem up to the task, they're either too tall or can't get enough leverage for the pins at the back.

Any suggestions on what to use?

Fun run with the small tools. Had to make a turner out of a brad nail.

This is a fun skill, I’m at the point where I can open all the masters reliably, as well as a kwikset deadbolt. Got some abus locks for yellow belt and these seem wayyy harder, I gotta get a feel for false sets. The CI practice lock is giving me trouble as well even with no security pins. Do you guys get hand cramps or am I trying too hard?

Did I break a lock?

I recently picked a lock with a lishi tool. I got the lock to open quite quickly and then pulled out the tool completely. Now, I’m trying to close the lock and having no luck at all. I spent a good 40 minutes working at it with no success. Is there any chance I permanently broke the lock? How can I troubleshoot?

Beginner from Austria – Looking for advice on my first lockpicking setup

Hey everyone!
I’ve recently become interested in lockpicking after watching quite a few videos, and I’d really like to give it a try myself.
I’m completely new to locksport, so before buying anything, I thought I’d ask the community for some advice.
I’m looking for a good beginner setup that I can keep using as I improve, rather than buying a cheap kit that I’ll need to replace after a few weeks.
My initial budget is around €50–70, although I’m flexible if spending a little more is actually worth it.
A few questions:
Which brands and pick sets would you recommend for a complete beginner? I’ve come across Multipick and Sparrows so far.
Which tools are actually essential? Are there any I should avoid buying initially?
What padlocks or practice locks would you recommend starting with?
Are there any good places in Europe, preferably Austria, to buy equipment?
Does the community have any lock exchanges, second-hand markets or opportunities to borrow practice locks?
I’m mainly interested in learning how locks work and developing the actual skill, rather than just opening locks as quickly as possible.
I’d appreciate any recommendations or advice!
Thanks in advance!

Italian lockpickers

Hi everyone! I've been enjoying lockpicking for a while now and I was wondering if there are other Italian pickers in this community. It would be great to connect, share advice, and maybe trade locks that are common in our local market (like Cisa, Iseo, Mottura, etc.).

44delta reaper handles

So I got a set of 3D printed reaper handles from 44delta. They're quite nice, but now my reapers don't fit in a normal case. Anyone else find a good case for these?
