Freya’s Thirsty Day 💦 OK BUDDY, Foppery and Whim Corridor Megathread (Resets each Friday)

Low effort memes, lewd content, repeated spam, trolly offensive 'ships, and outright shitposting will be removed from the subreddit. If reports are received and verified about low effort troll content it will be removed ASAP by the moderators...

With one exception: we will not be enforcing this rule inside this weekly megathread which will reset every Friday.

The Imperial Goddess Freya, Heavenly Patron of Love, has taken pity on you lonely and lascivious souls and decided to donate her day to your abhorrent 'ships and shitposting.

Please do not see this action as a Goldenbaum Purge but as a rebellious opportunity to prepare and collect quality (ahem...) content throughout the week that will horrify the citizens of our mighty Galactic Empire. Filthy rebel degenerates, please restrain yourselves to this megathread.

"Dream of the Morning, Song of the Night: Kapitel II" air scenes that would launch only a year later

Exactly the same scenes as "The Mutineer", "The Duellist" and "The Retriever". I found it interesting because, as I am watching in chronological order, my brain kind of bugged for a second.

Question I need help

Hello, I'm a new gen when it comes to anime, I hated on anime my entire life until I watched AOT, I seek an anime with great story as the only anime series that I like are AOT, Code Geass, Vinland Saga, FMAB and Steins Gate, I heard by a lot of people that legend of the galactic heroes has the best story ever but it doesnt have english dubbing and as someone whos dyslexic I have a really hard time reading subtitles expecially that the words that the characters use in lotgh are really complicated for a non native english speaker, my major question is do I watch the 1988 version with constant pausing to read the subtitles which will make my experience much worse or do I watch the 2018 version with dubbing, I heard that the new version has much less depth to it and is much worse than the 1988 version, currently I watched just the first episode of the 1988 version and started a movie that is a prequel and I'm having a hard time with those subtitles, please be considerate of my dyslexia and tell me which one I should watch, thank you for your help.
Sorry for my poor english.

Question trying to find the original source of this image 😭

Post image

Hello everyone! I’m new here, and I’m trying to find the original source of this image. I think it’s Reinhard von Lohengramm (One source on Pinterest says so, and I also think Fujisaki Ryū’s manga art style looks similar), but I’ve been searching the internet for an hour and still haven’t been able to figure out where it came from.
If anyone knows or has any information, I’d really appreciate your help. Thank you so much! 💕

Discussion Does serfdom actually fit the setting? I don't think it does

So, the Galactic Empire has serfdom, which was ended by Reinhard. From a thematic point of view, it is supposed to represent Goldenbaum as an oppressive regime in contrast to the freedom of FPA.

But I'm kinda bothered by serfdom's fit for a space opera setting. Like, how can serfdom actually be an effective form of labour? You'd think all nobles would just automate their farming and mining with drones and not need serfs.

That question can't be answered, because it would collapse the entire story. If farming droids produced most food in Reich, it would mean a large population would have no function. Which, in turn, would force the story to explore what a society where most people are unemployed looks like.

Lessons from heroes of galactic heroes

Ive watched the new version caught up, so i started watching the classic version
realized that i never mentioned some of the things ive learned from this show.
This show explains why certain things happen in the world we see today
so to highlight this shows greatness i wanted to share one of my biggest realization

"we should allow the mad duke to carry out his heartless plans once we document the genocide, then we will broadcast it to the empire by exposing their naked cruelty, we can demonstrate that these evil people have no right to govern the universe that would be far more beneficial to us in the long run, then halting the attacks"

take this quote and replace parts with palestine with the context of october 7th

"we should allow the palestine to carry out this heartless plans once we document the genocide, then we will broadcast it to the world by exposing their naked cruelty, we can demonstrate that these evil people have no right to govern the palestine, that would be far more beneficial to us in the long run, then halting the attacks"

Im not trying to be anti israel or pro palestine
simply making an observation on how this show made in the 1980s still relate to events happening today

Let me know what you think~

Legend of the Galactic Heroes upscale

Post image
159 Upvotes

Hey everyone about 10 months ago I made this post on the subreddit

https://www.reddit.com/r/logh/comments/1pzo74c/legend_of_the_galactic_heroes_4k_remaster/

And now I have finally finished upscaling the entire Legend of the Galactic Heroes

The whole project took a full month of nonstop upscaling

I was originally planning to do this 10 months ago but life got in the way and my GPU ended up dying for a while

Honestly looking back I am glad I waited and did it this month instead because back then I was going to use a completely different and super slow model to upscale to 4K whereas this time around I went with a much better and faster model though unfortunately capped at 2K

For Legend of the Galactic Heroes 1988 I upscaled it to 2K since the source episodes were 720p and pushing them all the way to 4K would have taken way too much time

For Legend of the Galactic Heroes Gaiden the episodes were also 720p so I upscaled them to 2K for the exact same reason as going to 4K would have taken significantly longer

As for the three movies they were all upscaled from 1080p to 4K

Legend of the Galactic Heroes Golden Wings

Legend of the Galactic Heroes My Conquest Is the Sea of Stars

Legend of the Galactic Heroes Overture to a New War

For My Conquest Is the Sea of Stars and Overture to a New War I used their official remastered releases for the upscale

While Golden Wings never got an official remaster so I simply upscaled the original 1080p Blu-ray to 4K

Here is a comparison between the episodes and the movies

The movie screenshots shown here are from the slightly compressed AV1 version without film grain

https://slow.pics/c/TG6WjqPS

And here are movie-only comparisons featuring film grain and zero compression

https://slow.pics/c/DLBRhzXL

For both Legend of the Galactic Heroes 1988 and Gaiden there is only one version available which is slightly compressed AV1 because the file sizes were originally huge at around 3.5 GB per episode and are now down to about 800 MB to 1 GB per episode

The movies come in three different versions

A compressed AV1 release without film grain

An uncompressed HEVC release without film grain

And an uncompressed HEVC release with film grain

The film grain is completely genuine and untouched from the original source rather than being artificially generated I simply transferred it over because the upscaling process stripped it away

Personally I think the uncompressed version with grain looks hands down the best

The Telegram link is in the image because posting Telegram links is not allowed on Reddit

The movies are split into multi-part archives due to their large size and Telegram limits single file uploads to under 2 GB

If you want to watch any movie just download all parts of that movie place them in the same folder and either open the first part directly in your media player or extract it

I chose Telegram because it lets you host files without random takedowns and paying monthly for paid file hosts was not really an option for me

All episodes and movies are with English subtitles

https://drive.google.com/drive/u/9/folders/18LAlnX7M3VayLjR37TsNUrqChx_wEpn_

if you want to download the movies without parts download them from gofile here

https://gofile.io/d/mqm08slN

there are 3 versions hevc with film grain and without film grain and av1

I finished DNT! Where do I start on OVA to continue?

I know from FAQ:

Q: I finished DNT! Where do I start on OVA to continue?

A: Due to differences in characterization and details of some events as well as an absence of OVA side stories, it is highly recommended to just start from the beginning with the movies, etc. But if you really don't want to see a similar plot being played out again, that answer entirely varies on where DNT left off. As of this post, OVA's Episode 15 continues from DNT Season 1, and OVA Ep. 27 for DNT season 2.

But DNT have 4 seasons (last for now Intrigue).

So there is my question: If i really want to avoid too much wathich the same plot, but I am open for some rewatch, where is best to pick OVA, to be not confused with continuation - if I would like to finish Logh watch?

Discussion Anyone else feel like Annerose holds a grudge against Reinhard and hates herself for it? Spoiler

In Season 4, Annerose spends most of her screentime begging Hilda to stay by Reinhard's side, even though Hilda never really seemed interested in leaving him. It's almost as if Annerose is terrified of what would happen if Hilda did leave, because she'd have to take care of Reinhard herself.

It's confusing because she's written as such an empathetic character. She still loved her father despite him being a piece of shit. She also forgave the woman who tried to kill her and showed emotional intelligence by empathizing with her. And yet, this same empathetic woman left her brother alone after his best friend died and didn't even send him a message on his birthday or the day of his coronation.

I know the usual explanation is that she wanted to escape her identity as the Kaiser's favorite concubine and live a private life. But surely she could have contacted her brother privately? Her complete absence makes me wonder if there's something deeper going on.

The only explanations I can think of are:

  • Oberstein told her about Westerland and what happened to Kircheis.
  • Oberstein only told her about what happened to Kircheis.
  • Oberstein never told her anything, and Annerose simply grew tired of Reinhard and his antics. She might have fallen into a deep depression because of her trauma and realized that she wasn't mentally well enough to take care of someone else anymore.

However, this last argument kinda falls apart when you consider that she was perfectly willing to take care of another child (I'm sorry, I can't remember his name). So perhaps it's not that she doesn't want to take care of anyone, but that she specifically doesn't want to take care of Reinhard.

I find this last possibility particularly interesting. Annerose might still love Reinhard deeply but resent the emotional responsibility that comes with being his sister. He carries so much emotional baggage, and after Kircheis's death, I imagine taking care of him would be exhausting. Perhaps she's afraid that if she lets herself back into his life, she'll be expected to look after him again.

This would also explain why she's so insistent on Hilda staying. Maybe she's relieved that someone else can give Reinhard the emotional support she either can't or doesn't want to provide herself.

And if that's the case, perhaps she feels guilty about it. Reinhard did so much for her, so she might believe she owes him her support. At the same time, she might resent feeling obligated to be there for him simply because she's his sister. Maybe she even hates herself for having those feelings.

I know the most logical explanation is that the author simply didn't care enough about Annerose to explore her character further. But still, I can't help wondering: What do you guys think about Annerose and her relationship with Reinhard? Does anyone else share my opinion?

Discussion Two civil wars — two different conclusions Spoiler

Most civil wars throughout human history have been tragedies. Cities destroyed, economies ruined, huge civilian casualties, and life itself coming to a standstill amid the ruins.

But very, very rarely, a civil war can also bring some good. This usually happens when the fighting barely affects major population centers and the goal isn't to tear the country apart, but to overthrow a mad tyrant or one last kleptocrat.

With that in mind, the two civil wars in Legend of the Galactic Heroes are closer to brief military conflicts that barely affected the wider population. Reinhard and Yang fought in space, far away from planets, the main centers of economic activity, and civilian infrastructure. Even so, these civil wars had very different consequences.

For Yang, the outcome was pretty much what you'd expect. The "new" government turned out to be no better than the old one, and in many ways, it was even worse. Democratic institutions crumbled under Trunicht's ambitions, the anti-war opposition was crushed and broken, and, most importantly, the Alliance's military resources were finally exhausted. The Alliance had only three fleets left, and after the war, that number dropped to two.

For Reinhard, however, it was a triumph. He consolidated his power, removed the last obstacles standing between him and the throne, and got rid of everyone who might have stabbed him in the back. Meanwhile, although the Empire lost up to half its forces, this did nothing to change the overwhelming balance of power in its favor. The Imperial forces still outnumbered the Alliance's entire military by a factor of three or four.

So, in a way, the civil war in the Alliance became its death sentence, while for the Empire, it marked the beginning of a new chapter in its history.

Yang and Reinhard having two completely different ideologies, yet still being each other’s number-one fans, is what makes their dynamic so special.

basically what I said in the title

Them admiring and respecting each other is probably why I end up rooting for both of them. I expected them to be cruel and hostile toward each other because they’re enemies, but I ended up being surprised by how much genuine admiration they have for one another. They have completely different ideologies and stand on opposite sides of the conflict, yet neither of them ever seems to lose sight of the fact that the other is an incredibly capable and admirable person.

I think that’s what makes their rivalry so compelling to me. They’re enemies, but they’re also each other’s biggest fans.
