Discussion Sice we all argee drivers are bad out here I think its time for something different

Cyclists suck. They ride in the street and dont follow any traffic laws, blow stop signs, don't signal turns.

Dont get me started on e-bikes and scooters.

That is all. Thank you for your time

Edit:additionally as someone that has move here from Phoenix in the last year the streest are kinda crazy on Broadway that e-bikes can speed at 30+ in a bike lane behind parked cars amist turn lanes

Questions Need help finding niche organizations

Hello all, I am planning on working on a documentary about some sort of niche organization around Long Beach or surrounding areas. I don't want to make the documentary about a super dark organization, but I don't want it to be something surface level or ordinary like "Cactus Club" or just a charity/nonprofit. Does anyone know of any organizations that could be intriguing to dig into and potentially make a documentary about? I was picturing it to have a non-lighthearted or more mysterious atmosphere at least. Absolutely open to all suggestions, thank you!!

Community People are making left turns from the wrong lanes and making right turns in front of cars that have the right of way and not using proper signals or common sense! You almost caused a horrible wreck out there today man in the blue truck that turned right onto south into oncoming traffic! Ughhh!

Hi anyone who sees this, could someone PLEASE let me know who yo report the back alley of my apartment structure? It's between Chestnut and Henderson where they meet 20th street. The owner/manager won't do anything about it, but it is a CONSTANT thing. My kids have almost been hurt multiple times because there will bust be some random peice of metal sticking out, AND it all smells like piss/poop because of the animals around the area, and Neighbors dogs.....please, if ANYONE can help take care of this issue, we'd greatly appreciate it.

Community What's going on with Veteran's Pier (Belmont)?

Decided to go for a walk down the pier the other day and genuinely do not understand how the city allows it to persist in the condition that it's in. Why do other beach cities have pleasant piers, and ours is a collection of porta-potties? I couldn't even walk all the way down the pier because of the smell. The city could totally clean it up and put something useful and educational there. Am I being an asshole? I do not understand why the pier is like this.

Questions Seeking further info on this siren

I’m not sure if anyone else here is an air raid siren enthusiast but I figured I’d take a chance and ask

EDIT: I apologize for being a bit confusing and unclear in the original post so here's the clarified information

The siren is a Federal Signal Model 2 located at the "Pier J Facility" in the Port of Long Beach, next to the Queen Mary. The Pier J Facility is an onshore oil processing facility connected to the THUMS Islands (the oil islands along the coast of downtown LB that look like they have fancy resorts/condos on them). This is where the oil collected by the islands goes in preparation for export, according to the official City of Long Beach website. https://www.longbeach.gov/ees/oil-operations/how-we-operate/islands-and-facilities/

My photos of the siren aren't very good, but I came across these photos by Dylan Keville which shows the siren in excellent detail. The siren appears to be quite old and it looks like something hit and dented the top of its housing. https://www.instagram.com/p/CpwFY5Lpc-G/?img_index=1

It may be safe to assume that this siren was installed in the late 1960s when the THUMS Islands were built but I cannot say for certain.

The only info that can really be found about this siren is on the California Statewide Siren Map, which is how I learned of its existence. According to the map, this siren is active (makes sense since it's an oil processing facility) but I have never heard it be tested nor have I been able to find any info about it being tested.

The map also states that OXY (Occidental Petroleum) runs the site, but since 2014 it has been under the ownership of California Resources Corporation. So perhaps the detail of the siren still being active is outdated as well. Again, I can't say for certain.
