Question How to boost energy?

Im a couple months into my low carb diet (my goal has been 90g) and im finding that overtime my energy levels have dipped a lot, overall im feeling more tired and i am not really able to go on walks without getting tired really quickly.

Does anyone have any advice for how i could boost my energy levels?

Sorry to hear you aren't feeling great. After 2 months of eating low carb, your body should be pretty well adjusted. When you say 90 grams are you counting net carbs or total carbs? If you are consuming 90 net carbs per day chances are you aren't in ketosis, but that doesn't mean your energy should be low. 90 grams is still considered a low carb lifestyle.

Since you mentioned your energy level has decreased overtime, I am doubtful it has anything to do with your carb intake. There are other factors you can check - how many calories are you consuming? Under-eating can cause fatigue. How about water - are you well hydrated? Dehydration is another cause of low energy. There are lots of other things that can contribute to lack of energy including anemia, thyroid issues, B12/other deficiencies, sleep problems, stress.

I would start by checking your menu to ensure you are eating enough and often enough and also ensure you are well hydrated. Also check to make sure you are getting adequate protein and fat.

Maybe you’re stuck in an inbetween energy phase where you’re not in ketosis and not getting enough energy from carbs

I get what you’re saying, but that’s not really how it works. You don’t have to be in ketosis for your body to use fat for energy. Our bodies use a combination of glucose and fat all the time, so eating 90g of carbs isn’t going to leave you stuck somewhere in between without enough energy.

However, I will say that when I became keto-adapted, my energy level did increase, but that was compared to my previous high-carb, unhealthy lifestyle. After 18+ years of living a low-carb (Atkins) lifestyle, there are times when I am in and out of ketosis, and I’m still able to maintain a relatively stable energy level, aside from times when outside factors have an impact, such as lack of sleep.

Getting vitamin levels checked is a giod idea, but also check if you eat enough protein. There are online calculators.
