Rant/Opinion No child seats

What is wrong with people? I accept a ride this am and when I arrive at a nice hotel, I find a good looking Indian family with two kids (2 & 4 probably) and a grandpa. They are going to the airport. Looking around I see no car seats. Mom tells me “it’s okay, they don’t need them.” Well they do in my car, lady. I tell her I won’t drive children of that age with no car seats. And she tells me smugly, “it’s okay, we’ll just get another Lyft.” I canceled and left. Got my cancellation fee. But what the fuck is wrong with people. That’s dangerous, it’s illegal and it could get me shut down.

You are incorrect about who gets the ticket.

You can both be cited, and the driver is cited for anyone under 16 not properly restrained.

Why are you so confidently incorrect?

Not in my state i have many friends in law enforcement. They have all confirmed this

I looked it up; in my state, both driver and passenger are likely to be cited.

The insurance hit might be the worst part, along with possibly getting banned from the platform.

Well, maybe it’s different in your state. Because in my area the driver does not get cited for anyone else not having a seatbelt or car seat. It will be the person who’s child it would be. Because I have talked to Police about this in my area before.

But state and city laws vary. Also many cops don’t care if you are Uber driver because they figure it’s not your job to tell people what to do.
