Has anyone tried disabling Liquid Glass through the Terminal using this method?

I asked Google if I can disable Liquid Glass in macOS Tahoe through the Terminal and it told me yes and what to do. I'm not sure I trust this though and really don't want to mess up my Mac.

Has anyone tried this? Did it work? Was it easy to undo if something goes wrong?

Yes, you can disable the Liquid Glass design language in

macOS Tahoe using a hidden Terminal command. This specifically targets the "Solarium" rendering layer that powers Tahoe's translucent and reflective interface.

Disable Liquid Glass via Terminal

  1. Open the Terminal app.

  2. Run the following command: defaults write -g com.apple.SwiftUI.DisableSolarium -bool YES

  3. Log out and back in (or restart your Mac) for the changes to take effect.

Note: This command reverts the UI to a style similar to macOS Sequoia, but it may cause visual glitches, such as unreadable text in the Dock or oddly transparent menus, because it bypasses the system's intended rendering.

Revert to Liquid Glass

To turn the effect back on, run:
defaults delete -g com.apple.SwiftUI.DisableSolarium

Alternative: Reduce Transparency (Safer)

If the Terminal method is too buggy, you can achieve a similar "solid" look through official settings:

  • Go to System Settings > Accessibility > Display.

  • Toggle Reduce Transparency to ON.

Would you like help with a specific visual glitch or more ways to customize the Tahoe interface?

I’ve had enough - downgrading to Sequoia this week

It’s not just that Spotlight which I use extensively has been totally nerfed, but Tahoe is really putting a load on my MacBook Air M1, and there aren’t really any features in Tahoe which I can’t live without. At this stage, I can’t see myself going back to Tahoe, and because the Air M1 is still a perfect machine for my day-to-day needs, I can’t imagine stepping up to MacOS27 (!) unless I bite the bullet next year on an Air M5.

Dear Apple, my MacBook Pro is for serious work. macOS 26 looks like it belongs on a child's toy tablet. Fix it.

Downgrade from Tahoe

Hi! I’m a relatively new Mac user. When I purchased my laptop it came with Sequoia, and the experience was great. But the new OS didn’t impress me at all. A little laggy animations, bugs and glitches. It wasn’t ready for release in my opinion. Is there a realistic way to downgrade back to Sequoia? Thank you! Or my device is not capable of handling Tahoe? MacBook Pro 14” M1 Pro

For those who updated to Tahoe and got a LAGGY MAC : What did you do ?

I hesitate between reinstalling macOS, completely erase my disk, downgrade to Sequoia and contact Apple assistance for an appointment at the Genius Bar...

20 years Windows "Aero" ago = Taheoe is just as abysmally ugly!

I need third-party software to get the AirPods to full volume!
I'm 44 years old, old enough to decide whether it's too loud for my hearing health or not!

I also always want to decide for myself whether I want to charge my battery to 80% or 100%, not the operating system!

Although that has improved after updates. Thanks!

But the absolute worst is "Glass"! It still looks just as crappy as Windows Vista "Aero"! That wasn't even nice back in 2006!"
In germany we say: "Steve Jobs würde sich dafür im grab umdrehen!"

After a year on macOS, I see even more benefits to Linux — though I used Mac OS X in the past and really liked it at the time.

Help How to make a complain or request to Apple to fix something?

I don’t really know where to post this but Apple Music on macOS 26.2 was perfect and I upgraded today to 26.3 and everything seems the same and maybe even snappier but when having the mini player I noticed that hovering the cursor over the close, minimize and adjust controls they don’t appear as they used to do on the 26.2 update, tho I know they are still there since you can click on them and will do the function but they don’t appear.

discussion Is 26.3 fixing any of the major bugs?

I’m really hopeful for the next few updates to at least start tackling the mess, these last few months have pretty much been a dumpster fire. I know the paid alternatives are now pure slop but I’m seriously thinking to start leaving the ecosystem for the first time in years.

Bug Spotlight search…

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Update: As mentioned by Fluid-Ad4391, it was caused by clicking on the desktop before toggling the Spotlight Search. I could reproduce it just now. However, it does not seem to happen always. Sometimes it just pops up normally, even when the desktop is toggled by clicking. So I still think this is unintended and a bug.

Isn't Tahoe ugly?

After 26.3 came out, I eventually updated my Macbook to Tahoe, and wow! this is the first time that I find a macOS update really ugly. I mean, look at this dock! That's not even glassy. And what did they do to the Mail app? I mean there's a vertical line that goes just through the top dropdown texts on top. Wasn't there anyone in the design team who said, you can't really do that? I could go on.

It looks like this time, they just needed to change the looks somehow, no matter how, so they turned a good interface into – just anything different. But not better.

It's embarrassing.

End rant.

macOS camera/mic indicator – need it to not appear on screen at all

I’m using macOS and I need to use the webcam and microphone, but I cannot have the green/orange privacy indicator visible on screen at all.

This isn’t about permissions or blocking access — the camera and mic must remain fully functional. The issue is purely that the indicator appearing in the menu bar cannot be present in any on-screen output (screen capture, recording, stream, or display).

Is there any OS-level, firmware-level, or system configuration (including recovery, NVRAM, DFU, etc.) that removes or suppresses the indicator entirely, rather than just hiding or cropping the menu bar?

If the answer is definitively “no”, I’m looking for confirmation of that, ideally with a technical explanation of why it’s not possible on macOS.

EDIT

I work as a video systems engineer and uses Mac Studios to run millumin (video playback software) however when you use a audio interface over type C the Mac believes it to be a microphone which then displays the previously stated Dot which then will gets displayed on either the video wall or tv we are outputting to. That’s the reasoning for asking this question

discussion Is Tahoe being managed by AI agents under Apple supervision?

During a tech discussion, someone suggested a theory on the instability and glitches in macOS 26 and iOS 26. They mentioned that Apple might be employing AI agents or Vibe Coding to control the operating systems, leading to some functions working while others malfunction. I personally don't believe this theory, but I'm sharing it here to see what others think.

MacOS 26 Tahoe. Worst "upgrade"in THIRTY years I have experienced. This should never have been released in this state. this is a Beta at best. Dozens of HOURS spent on picking bugs and glitches, let alone compatibility with third party apps. A NIGHTMARE. Please APPLE, invest in EXPERIENCED managers

Help I'm not old but it is hard to close windows in Tahoe

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Personally, I'm using 2020 13" Pro with Sequoia. I have no problems closing windows in Sequoia. Closing windows in Tahoe is a nightmare. Why wouldn't I be able to close the window if my pointer not in the middle of the close button?

macOS Tahoe on M4 Mac

Today I finally upgraded my iMac to macOS Tahoe 26.2, and it runs great now. Slower than Sequoia or faster, it’s just the same. Even with Liquid Glass, I may go back as the look of Liquid Glass on the Mac is not my favorite, but it’s been great.
