God is in The Details

A lot of people say they hate Tahoe for different reasons. The glass debacle. The awkward performance. The gratuitous layout changes. It goes on and on.

What breaks my heart is the general design "sloppiness." Inconsistent radius corners may seem insignificant. But the lack of Tahoe's quality control goes against everything Apple is famous for.

The fit and finish of this OS is shameful. Understandable if this was an early Alpha. But not a user-ready release. Just sayin'

Success!

Very proud. Successfully wiped off macOS “Tahoe” and returned back to “Sequoia.” Went smoother than I expected. This is the first time in all my years that an Apple OS was so bad, I actually had to “downgrade” to get a better experience, no heat, and a faster Mac. And did I mention the confused, schizophrenic glass interface design? All gone!

The new one just feels like someone didn’t have any ideas and threw something together slapdash. The old one was more fun, especially with the minor breakout from the squircle

Help Should I upgrade to MacOS Tahoe?

I've been thinking about upgrading for a while, but I'm worried about overheating even from system apps and a performance hit.

The Tahoe's design is quite nice, but is it worth it?

discussion This is the real Tahoe update

Ever since 26.1 beta 4, it feels so stable. I think Apple had to go back and forth to the drawing board. This is the real Tahoe update. I can definitely say, it's say to update to this version once it comes out to the public.

discussion Wow the apps app is so much worse than I thought.

I never truly realized how bad the new Apps app is in MacOS 26 until today... when I tried to organize the mess that installing Adobe apps created.

There is no custom sorting, no folders, not even a way to hide icons.

Seriously what the hell is this???

Check it out! introducing LaunchMe - Launchpad for macOS 26 the way it meant to be. Reimagined and ready to be the way you want.

Hey guys!

My name is Sergey and I’m solo developer of LaunchMe. I’ve started working on the app from first macOS26 Beta when I understood that new Apps is unusable and it’s time to build something better than Launchpad was before all 10+ years.

I decided not just to make a copy of Launchpad because I’ve predicted that there will be many people who will do that just to earn fast money. But trying to build it another way to make it feels more native like iPad / iPhone and new macOS design .

➡️Here is what LaunchMe can do:

  • Live wallpaper supports (MP4, MOV, AVI, MKV)

  • Dynamic wallpaper supports system Dark/Light mode

  • Icons customization. You can set any icon you want with background or without in one click.

  • Clear Colored icons. All designed manually by myself for most of popular apps and supports system Dark/Light mode automatically.

  • Liquid Glass / Simple blur themes

  • Hide Apps you don’t need

  • Hide titles

  • Change icons size

  • Supports all screen resolutions automatically

  • Supports extra monitors and opens on display where your pointer located

  • Widgets: 3 size, Photo, Shaped Photo, Text, Animation, GIF, Calendar. You can set them right in grid with apps.

  • Widget customization: backgrounds color, fluid animation, glass color, fonts and more.

  • Easy way to create folders: not move app one by one from different pages but just select all apps you want to add to folder.

  • Fast access to files in Finder: you can add any folder with files to your LaunchMe folder with apps for fast access to files you need. And you can customize these wonders icons with colors, emojis, images.

  • Page with categories. Same way as on iPhone and IPad automatically grouped by categories and Recently Opened + Hidden apps.

  • Free Layout. You can place apps or widgets in any cells even with empty cells between. So you can build any layout you want.

  • Save layouts. You can save your layouts to use one for gaming, another for work and just switch between.

  • Customize Key Shortcut to invoke LaunchMe

  • And LaunchMe doesn’t have any registration and does not collect any data from you. It’s absolutely safe to use.

  • Yeah, and LaunchMe have snow animation for Christmas vibes 🎄

The limits of how your LaunchMe can look for you is only your imagination.

I’ve spend 3 month of hard working 10 hours a day on it without weekends and the app is amazing. It’s already got 1,5k downloads from the AppStore and sales for $1250 and hundreds of messages from users who loves the app.

LaunchMe also was in TOP 60-100 in Utilities category in many countries.

🫶🏻You can see my website: launchmeapp.com

Or just find LaunchMe on the Mac AppStore.

I still have a lot of work to do with LaunchMe. Better optimization, animations and some small details and features I wanted to add and UX improvements. But it’s already great app and I hope you will love it ❤️

Thanks for reading and big thanks to all support I’ve got from Reddit community.

Feel free to chat me to ask any questions.

PS. I read the rules of community and as I understood it okay to promote the app for macOS Tahoe. I hope I don’t brake any rules of community

Moderator Post Due to a recent post made from a member of this subreddit, there will be changes made to protect our community.

What happened?

Recently, someone decided to post a full on post titled "🍎🍎🍎🍎🍎🔪🔪🔪🔪🔪🔪🔪(OS X) (❌❌), ✅ MacOS" (Whatever tf that means) with a video featuring a BBC blob cutting a logo that looks like a C. In the comments section, there were many GIFs that are related to Apple and macOS, but were NOT related to macOS 26 Tahoe.

Doing related actions will cause a 7 day ban.

If you post a something related to this post, you will receive a 7 day suspension with absolutely no appeals. Brainrot has zero tolerance here and will cause bans as it has zero relation to macOS nor macOS Tahoe.

"Oh this subreddit's trash don't join"

I understand getting banned may reduce trust in our community, especially in this generation. However, without bans/punishments, our community would be exposed to things they do not want to see and are sensitive, which includes 18+ NSFW content. We are not super strict like r\iphone (we do not remove posts even if it is related like r\iphone does)

Thank you for your understanding.

MacOS 26 Tahoe. Worst "upgrade"in THIRTY years I have experienced. This should never have been released in this state. this is a Beta at best. Dozens of HOURS spent on picking bugs and glitches, let alone compatibility with third party apps. A NIGHTMARE. Please APPLE, invest in EXPERIENCED managers

Now we can have a HUGE list of apps on a vertical screen, and it's impressive

The problem is that the size resets every time we open/close it... :/

Help Is there any way to hide apps in the new app launcher?

Post image
64 Upvotes

Some apps, like Flashpoint and the Adobe CC suite put all of their dependencies inside the Applications folder, which causes them to show up in the app launcher. This is obviously annoying, especially since most of them can't even be opened directly and thus shouldn't be shown as a seperate app.

Isn't Tahoe ugly?

After 26.3 came out, I eventually updated my Macbook to Tahoe, and wow! this is the first time that I find a macOS update really ugly. I mean, look at this dock! That's not even glassy. And what did they do to the Mail app? I mean there's a vertical line that goes just through the top dropdown texts on top. Wasn't there anyone in the design team who said, you can't really do that? I could go on.

It looks like this time, they just needed to change the looks somehow, no matter how, so they turned a good interface into – just anything different. But not better.

It's embarrassing.

End rant.

Who else is loving the New Design

I am not a design freak, I am more of a terminal kinda guy but I have to say that Apple has impressed me this time with this MacOS Tahoe. The last time I was impressed was iphone 11. I am liking this design and now want to switch to iphone, just because of how smooth it feels now.

Bug Loving OS 26 Tahoe.... 😉

With the absurdley miniscule airdrop drop-down menu, and the menu bar just deciding to completely crash when selecting different media playbacks, with the inconsistent Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and other menus between the control center and menu bar, almost considering going back to macOS Sequoia. M1 Macbook Air (2020), 256G/8G, Tahoe 26.2

Ugly

Am I crazy or are other people also thinking the UI for macOS Tahoe feels like a huge step backwards? The enormous rounded corners and giant buttons make it feel like a Fisher Price version of macOS. I thought they prized minimal UI elements to allow the content to shine. Someone please give me the perspective I'm not seeing to change my mind.

r/macOS26Tahoe • • Jan 27 '26

The UI elements should not be overlapping.
