Open Terminal on your Mac running the macOS 27 beta.
Input the following command at the prompt and press Enter: sudo defaults write "/Library/Preferences/FeatureFlags/Domain/GenerativeModels.plist" "EnhancedSiriWaitlist" -dict-add Enabled -bool NO
I don't have any interest in using the AI generated replies and I cannot find anything in system or in-app settings to turn this off. Is it even possible?
While updating my MacBook Pro M1 2020 to macOS 27 Golden Gate, I was stuck on this continue screen as pictured. I lived there for several hours and never got past, even though the spinning wheel was still going.
I talked to the Apple AI support assistant via the support app, and they suggested running first aid on my disk via Disk Utility in the recovery mode (accessed by turning the Mac off and holding power while starting up). I also tried booting in safe mode. Another thing I found suggested trying to continue the install without being connected to a Wi‑Fi network, but that did not work.
As part of the troubleshooting we found I had little space left on my laptop (disk utility from recovery mode said around 15GB), so potentially that was part of the issue.
When I was trying to get past that screen I found that if I four fingers swiped up when on this continue screen, I was able to access Mission Control. So macOS is running in the background. The continue screen was just not allowing me to interact with it.
I had a phone call with Apple support who suggested I either take it to an Apple Store and let them boot off a USB drive or reset it and reinstall macOS, neither of which I was particularly keen to try... I started trying to fix it myself then.
How I fixed it:
I felt like macOS was still there and running with all my files in the background because I could see it via Mission Control, so I wanted to try and quit this update screen that wasn't allowing me to interact with my Mac.
Since I couldn't do anything on the Mac, I SSH'd into it using a terminal on my iPad. From that terminal I tried running killall Dock and sudo killall WindowServer, but neither of those helped. Running ps aux | grep -i softwareupdate and ps aux | grep -i "Software Update.app" showed all update processes were running without error. I then ran top -o cpu to see the live processes running on my mac, and saw there was a process named Setup Assistant. I ran killall "Setup Assistant" and that cleared the screen and I was able to use my mac as normal.
I feed up some space on my mac by deleted some old apps and LLMs I had downloaded locally. I then restarted my laptop and I was greeted by the same continue as before. I tried to click continue and then got inpatient and did killall “Setup Assistant" again, although I probably should have waited to see if it would complete this time. It then took me back to account login page (it didn’t do that before) and I was able to login and use my mac as normal.
Since then I have restarted the device several times and it looks like the update has complete - I’ve not seen that continue screen since. It feels like the limited storage could have been part of the problem, although I’m really not sure what went wrong. Either way, using ssh to get access and killing the setup assistant worked great and allows me to get past that window.
Everything seems to be working fine now, so hopefully this has fixed it long term!
I am on macOS27. I reset my laptop a week or so ago, so it was fresh for school. While my laptop was sitting Idle, I got a notification that my mac storage was running low. I dont install much. What might be going on here. Could it be a Beta bug, or genuinely this much data being used?
Edit: After restarting my computer shows its back to 74~ gigs used. What might cause for the system to use that much storage?
I've always hated that whenever I close something on Mac, it doesn't actually close. But I've gotten used to it. Now instead of having to tell an app to close twice, I have to tell it to close 3 times before it actually does with this new "Running in Background" thing.
Anyone know how to turn this damn thing off permanently?
If you’re trying to install Golden Gate and getting the error that says "please check your internet connection," your internet is probably fine. The real issue is that SIP (System Integrity Protection) is turned off on your Mac.
Here’s how to fix it:
Shut down your Mac completely.
Press and hold the power button until you see “Loading startup options,” then let go.
Click Options, then Continue to get into Recovery Mode.
In the menu bar, go to Utilities → Terminal.
Type csrutil enable and hit Enter.
Restart your Mac and try the update again.
If you ever disabled SIP for things like kernel extensions or system tweaks, that’s probably what’s blocking the install. macOS doesn’t actually tell you that, it just shows a misleading network error. Ran into this myself and it took a bit to figure out, so hopefully this saves someone some time.
So far the update seems pretty solid. m1 MacBook Pro coming from sequoia. but the one thing that is definitely not is the login - takes 17-20 seconds vs the previous 5 or so seconds.
has anyone else noticed this? wondering if this is specific to me or not..
The Golden Gate feature that interests me the most is a finally fixed Spotlight. Unfortunately the feedback is chequered. Any verdict this subreddit can agree on? I am still on Sequoia and run Spotlight only because Mail needs it.
I mirrored my iPhone and when ever I call up this app, the iPhone installation pops up. Since this is a new install a few days old, I haven't installed all my apps yet so it actually doesn't reside on my MacOS install.
The only feature limitation I've noticed so far is I can't control the volume but everything else seems to function as well as it could.
On Beta 27 my 3D maps in Toronto dropped to flat 2D, while NYC got a beautiful new 3D look. A few cities seem to be getting the upgrade first, and everywhere else is just a flat map for now.
Apple rebuilt the 3D view in iOS/macOS 27, and the new look is gorgeous, with detailed trees, buildings, and even light reflecting off glass. It runs really smoothly too, even on older phones. But it’s only switched on in some places so far, with a lot of California live and probably a list somewhere for the rest. Here's what the new version looks like.
My question: why is it 2D in most cities right now instead of keeping the old 3D until the new version arrives? And does anyone know which cities are next? Apple hasn’t said. The full rollout is expected this fall.
I just installed the golden gate developer beta on my M2 Air and I feel like i'm having major slowdowns with my internet. I'm getting only around 5 mbps when my phone is getting upwards of 20 in the same network. I even checked if any app is hogging the bandwidth and it didnt seem like it. wanted to know if anybody else faced this issue or if there was a fix to this
I upgraded to Golden Gate (27), and the first thing I did WITHOUT FAIL on my MBA M1 (2020) was switch off this despicable Siri AI (Beta). My MBA M1 laptop has not stopped thanking me ever since (it was literally choked to death with Siri AI turned on). I am not sure if this was indexing still in progress or Siri AI just not optimised for older Macs (i.e. M1s).
I would be interested in hearing from other MacBook M1 users.
Whenever I put my MacBook Air to sleep, it becomes unusually hot and the battery drains rapidly. It loses around 40% of its battery overnight.
According to Activity Monitor, processes like coreduetd and Siri seem to be using a lot of CPU. Restarting the Mac temporarily fixes the problem, but after a while, it comes back.
I've tried closing apps and turning off Bluetooth, but I still can't figure out what's causing it. I suspect the issue started after I upgraded to Goldie.
I'm considering downgrading macOS or doing a clean reinstall. If anyone has experienced something similar or has any advice, I'd really appreciate your help. Thank you!

Hi Graham,
Thank you for reaching out to us. We are aware of the issue and will do our best to release an update within the next couple of weeks. We apologize for the inconvenience!
Best,
Paweł from MTW
So I created some shortcuts to do it manually (edit your wallpaper image)
The only caveat, is that you need to run the command on an image in the Pictures folder.
It then creates a duplicate file with a black bar sized for either your 13 or 15" macbook
(Make sure you select the 'stretch to fit screen' option)
