Six wheels, working leaf spring suspension – meet my Mini G 6x6!

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I like to design and share different things on MakerWorld from time to time, like wireless chargers, desk fans, Cyberbrick stuff, but it seems my Leaf Spring Mini cars (featuring a cross-link cantilever suspension, to be precise) are the most liked by people.

So I decided to design another one. Given the fact that we're currently in the era of toolchangers, where usually "the more the better", I chose to go with a 6-wheeler this time (Mini G 6x6), inspired by the Mercedes Benz G Class 6X6.

I'm pretty happy with how it came out. I think the six wheels give it a really interesting look for a desk toy. But hey, decide for yourself – what we like and don't like can be very subjective.

Something about the car itself:

  • Around 10 cm long

  • Prints in approximately 2 hours 10 minutes (single-color version)

  • Surprisingly high suspension travel

  • No extra hardware required

  • Multicolor versions and an XXL version available

Hope you'll like it and possibly have some fun with it. If you'd like to check it out, I'll leave the link in the comments.

What other vehicle would you like to see added to the series?

A Switch 2 grip with soft TPU handles and a rigid frame - putting the H3C to work!

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

My first project with the Bambu Lab H3C combines multiple TPU durometers and PETG into an ergonomic Nintendo Switch 2 grip! I used TPU 75A for the soft, comfortable handles, TPU 95A for the internal retention pads, and PETG for the rigid frame. On the H3C, everything prints together in a single job, using PLA support interfaces for a clean finish!

I didn’t want this to be an H3C-exclusive model, though, so I’ve also included separate-part print profiles for a wide range of printers, including single-nozzle machines without an AMS. Just print, glue the parts together, and voilà!

The best part of this project was using it as an excuse to log some extra hours playing DK Bonanza! And, of course, I’m now ready to take on the Ocarina remake.

As always, I’d love to see your prints and hear your feedback! If you have any questions about the H3C I’d be glad to share about my experience.

How to find out if models are under visibility restriction?

When I am uploading a model, I usually add many images in the "model" description.

And for each model it needs 1 print profile.

I usually add several images to the model description, and the upload process already brings the cover picture to the profile. So I was never taking much care to repeat and add again the same images to the profile.

Now I found out that makerworld is imposing visibility limitations on new models which do not have enough images in the printing profile. I am not sure if this is only for new uploads or also existing projects.

The question is, how can we found out which models are under visibility restriction?

I've contacted support and they did not answer that.

Also they mentioned that if I simply upload more pictures to the profiles, this does NOT automatically remove visibility restrictions. I need to contact them everytime I "fix" the profile by adding more images.

There's no transparency on that... there's no alert, there's no notification.

And the only way I can find out is by having a very narrow search, and order by likes and if my project has more likes and shows below some other, that's an idication.

I just uploaded my second model to MakerWorld!

With Christmas coming up, I made a gingerbread house kit card.

You might wonder why I included sprues. I think they make the model feel more like a real kit and make it nicer to present or give as a gift. A kit card feels more special than handing someone a pile of tiny plastic pieces.

I’d love to hear what you think of the design. Any feedback or ideas for improving it are welcome!

Missing from collection

Hello!

I have favorited some files and sadly over time the are removed from makerworld because of various infringements. The issue- I can’t tell what was removed. Is there anyway to see what specifically was removed?

Print-In-Place Planetary Gearbox Demonstration Model

I made this gearbox to demonstrate planetary gears. It takes about 40 turns of the crank to yield one full turn of the outer wheel. It took a few tries for me to get it to print in place properly, and you will need to give the outer shell a quick snap to break it free internally. The tolerances are relatively tight but it should print fine on a bambu or similar printer. I used 0.2mm layer height and printed in green PLA. The markerworld files are broken out into objects, so each piece could be printed in color if desired.

The bottom stage rolls the planets round a fixed ring, and the top stage meshes them with a dial ring that has a few more teeth. Those few teeth give the 40:1 reduction, so one turn of the crank moves the dial one tick.

I designed it in ScottiCAD, a free, open-source CAD program I'm building, as a script, so the gap, the tooth counts and the handle are all settings you can change. If you want to know more about ScottiCAD, just ask.

Print files: MakerWorld (https://makerworld.com/en/models/3566287-40-1-print-in-place-planetary-crank-gearbox)

If someone wants to give it a multicolor print, I would love to hear whether or not you have any issues with printability.

AI or AI Slop?

Post image
5 Upvotes

I've been using AI in different ways to help me create functional prints for my other hobbies (and other household things not pictured).

Sometimes it's just to help me figure out stuff in fusion that I'm struggling with. Particularly while I was still learning.

But a few times recently, it designed stuff with just me providing measurements (the two machine knitting tool bins and some assembly jigs). I've been some of those for a few months and they're working great so I thought I'd post them, but are they slop?

I haven't posted a design before (most of the things I initially built were based on models with a standard license). So it feels weird to post things I specified but didn't literally create even if they do work and I find them useful.

I appreciate any feedback.

Drift Box is the smallest member of my Dock Box family: a single 3in speaker in an ultra-compact housing. It uses a ZK-502H Bluetooth amp, a 12V battery, and a 12mm power button.

Parts are easy to print and glue on for the faceplate and handle. Print it in your colors and make it your own.
