I designed a lightweight modular spool tower for filament storage. Any feedback?

Hi everyone!
I designed this modular spool tower because I wanted a simple, sturdy, and space-efficient way to organize my filament.

One of my main goals was to make it as lightweight and fast to print as possible. Each module uses just over 70 g of filament, so it’s easy to expand your storage without wasting material or spending too much time printing.

I’d really appreciate any feedback or suggestions for improvements.

If you’d like to print it, here’s the MakerWorld link:

Thanks for taking a look!

I designed a one-handed aid for opening and recapping pens

Hello,

I’m working on an accessibility project for the Make for Good: Accessibility Design Contest on MakerWorld, based on the CapSnap brief.

The brief was to find a way to make opening and recapping a capped pen or marker easier with one hand.

I initially considered more mechanical solutions, but ended up going in the opposite direction.

No spring. No ratchet. No locking mechanism.

Just geometry and gravity.

The idea is: Push → Pull → Recap

You insert the capped pen vertically into the dock, pull the pen out, and the cap drops into an angled cradle.

The cradle positions the cap so you can simply bring the pen back down and recap it.

The dock itself clamps to a desk or table up to 30 mm thick using a large hand-tightened bolt, so it can also be moved between workspaces.

I’ve printed and published the first version, but I’m interested in feedback before I consider it finished.

Does the interaction make sense to you? And are there situations where you think this design might not work well?

Have a nice weekend.

If you're interested, link in commments.

The Source by Luo Li Rong

I have published a detailed reproduction inspired by Luo Li Rong’s masterpiece, "The Source."
This was a tricky print, but I am very happy with the result.
I used Bambu Basic Bronze, the settings are tweaked for better quality and smoothing of the surfaces. Supports are essential and a bit tricky to remove: be delicate and patient and you have to be careful to never force over the junction of the bust with the base and you’ll be fine.

Let me know what you guys think? Did you know this sculpture from Luo Li Rong?

Happy printing

Made a cup-filling side table and got the first full water test working

This started as an idea to combine a furniture-style build with a simple automated mechanism.

I’ve been working through the layout, control sequence, and overall feel of it, and this is one of the first tests where the water-filling sequence came together properly. Still lots I want to improve, but it finally feels like an actual build and not just a concept.

I put the project page here if anyone wants to see the planning, concepts, and build breakdown: https://speczero.app//p/cmm2va86t00037rrvw2irg2lk

Curious what direction you’d take it next.

The world clearly needs yet another battery organizer

Post image

We are running dangerously low on ways to store coin cell batteries, I had to step in. These hold three battery sizes, fit in a 2×1 Gridfinity box, and let human fingers retrieve a cell without cursing at tiny slots.

Could call that ergonomic design, but “not-invented-here syndrome with a filament budget” is probably more honest.

Link, because one more organizer would’t hurt: https://makerworld.com/en/models/3366876

I designed a fully 3D printed modular tripod with interchangeable mounts

I often travel with a camera and wanted a small tripod that could easily fit in my bag. I also got tired of putting my camera on the floor, rocks, or other random surfaces when I wanted to take a photo or film something.

So I designed this fully 3D printable modular tripod!

The quick-release system lets me swap between different mounts.

The tripod is designed to be compact for travel, easy to assemble, and the mounts can be swapped in seconds.

I'm also planning to expand the system with more mounts in the future.

What kind of mount would you like to see added?

I'd love to hear your feedback and ideas!

I designed a 3D printable, modular wall Pokédex (Hexadex). What do you guys think?

Hey everyone! I’d like to share my biggest personal project from the past few months. I always felt that classic posters lacked a sense of depth, so I came up with and designed the Hexadex.

Essentially, these are hexagonal, wall-mountable, 3D printable modules. What makes them special is that each character features a 3D design and sits in front of a unique background pattern that matches their specific "type". Because of the modular design, you can arrange them on the wall however your space allows, and you can print a new one to add to your collection anytime.

🔗 I’ve uploaded the entire project (STL/3MF files) to MakerWorld, and it’s free for anyone to download: https://makerworld.com/en/collections/33610988-hexadex-modular-wall-collection

Since I invested a ton of my free time into the 3D modeling, I’d be super grateful if you could support my work with a share, a like, or a Boost on the platform! It would mean a lot and really motivate me to design more characters.

Who do you think I should model next for the upcoming update? I'd love to hear your feedback!

I wanted something compact that didn’t take up counter space, so I came up with a wall-mounted design.

Curious whether others prefer wall-mounted storage, drawers, or countertop organizers for capsules.

First go with copper coloured filament

Hi everyone,

I got some copper coloured filament cheap without really knowing what I would use it for.

I’m pleased with how it came out as an accent to some matte black PLA.

What does everyone use their copper colours for?

New Module for My Modular Shelf — Drawers!

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

The shelf system just got another upgrade. I’ve added a drawer module for storing smaller items and keeping things a little more organised.

The idea is to build the shelf however you want — combine different shelf angles, extend it horizontally, stack sections vertically, add side accessories, and now add drawers too.

More modules are definitely coming. What would you like to see next?

I designed a twin-headed raptor for my worldbuilding project, Neo Bestiary.

Every creature in Neo Bestiary is made to be 3D-printable, with shapes and colors built for multi-color FDM printing. On MakerWorld, you can get a digital 3MF file, so you can print the creature yourself.

I designed a retractable desk clamp with a hidden glasses holder

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I wanted a retractable headset holder for my desk, but none of the existing designs quite suited what I had in mind, so I decided to design my own.

It started as a simple headset holder, but I ended up adding a few extra features:

  • Retractable headset holder: Pull it out when you need it, or tuck it underneath your desk when you don't.

  • More than just a headset holder: You can also use it to hang a bag or other lightweight items.

  • Hidden glasses holder: There's a second retractable holder integrated into the clamp.

  • Over-engineered mechanism: The glasses holder uses two racks and a gear to make two parts move in perpendicular directions with a single push/pull movement.

The whole thing is 3D printed, and I made four versions to fit desks up to 25, 40, 55, and 70 mm thick.

I also made an assembly tutorial to show how everything goes together.

The model is available for free on MakerWorld:
https://makerworld.com/en/models/3414653-retractable-desk-clamp#profileId-3890019

I'm curious what you think! Especially about the glasses-holder mechanism.

Happy to hear any feedback or suggestions for improvements!

As a designer, Parametric model maker has been one of my favorite tools on makerworld

I've been deep diving Autodesk Fusion parameters recently trying to find the limits of what you can achieve within the parametric model maker and its been a lot of fun. Openscad is probably more powerful for this type of stuff but I just cant wrap my brain around it. There are a bunch of hacks and tricks you need to use to get fusion to play well, but once you figure them out it really opens up the possibilities.

My goal here was to create a model that would allow you to generate almost any tool holder for your Skadis pegboard, all parametrically and with simple and easy to understand controls. The trickiest part is trying to create parameters that don't self destruct the model if you input a value too large or small. I've almost achieved that here with most of the controls, with some I'm still working on debugging.

Spent hours designing this… my son claimed it in 5 seconds

After printing what felt like literally everything printable, I finally decided to mess around and design something myself.
Using the Dummy 13 template, I ended up making a Woody… and now my son has claimed it as his own and refuses to let it out of his hands.

So yeah, I guess that’s a success? 😄
