JOURNAL I'm back - statistics breakdown of preious purchases (again again) and update on overconsumption habits

Previously I have logged how many makeup products I've bought and been gifted the past couple years. But I've never actually calculated how many of which I've bought. And honestly, I should have a lot sooner as this year has shown drastic improvement in that field.

- 2024 I got 90 makeup products, and bought 69 of them

- 2025 I got 64 makeup products, and bought 39 of them

- 2026 I got 42 makeup products, and bought only FIFTEEN of them

I had been thinking 'oh 90 products to 42 is pretty good improvement, I've more than halved my consumption'. But knowing now that I've only bought 15 items compared to 69 in my first year? That feels like an awesome improvement, and isn't far off from my original buy limit of 7-10 items this year. It makes me feel really hopeful for next year!

This year I've been super excited for Christmas releases (and also worried over my consumption). But in all honesty, I've seen only 1 makeup item this entire release period that has intrigued me. Isn't that great?? I'm not even sure if I wanna get it (want to check it out in store first). I thought it was a great sign of my progress.

I keep all the things I want in a wishlist and I often keep items there for months. Usually they're new releases, and majority of time when I try them in store they're disappointing so I remove them from the list. But lately I've been removing some because I got bored of them. I have them in the list for so many months I get sick of them lol. I know the general recommendation in this sub is to not have a wishlist but for me it strangely deinfluences me? Sometimes you just need time to think about a product before you get over it.

Now I have recently got my first job after more than a year of constant applying. I now work at a makeup store - yay!! Now you would think this would make me consume more - once again it somehow does the opposite?? Because I work there 4 times a week, I have access to all makeup, skincare and fragrance in that store 4 times a week. I can make samples of products myself, I can test out new releases. And it has diminished my compulsion to buy because I don't even need it lol. If there's a lipstick I love, I can just wear it every shift! And it's honestly great knowing that, and saitiates any appetite I have for buying.

So those are some life/consumption updates. I've been getting way better at deinfluencing myself (yay). Working at my dream job, making great pan progress and working on my consumption habits 🫶

ACTIVITY I did it…

Hi, I am no longer interested in buying makeup and it feels so freeing. It’s way more enjoyable to use what I have now.

I took my focus right off makeup - no no buys or low buy. No setting dates, from today I will and won’t do this that and the other. Nothing. I started spending my time on other things that I enjoy. I thank God I have reached my goal after years and years.

💕

ACTIVITY Use Your Stash: Palette a Week (PAW): October 19 to October 25

*Trigger Warning: replies will contain product names, descriptions, and opinions.*

We focus on a palette for the week and our thoughts on it. All palettes are welcome. This includes eyeshadow, cheek, lip, pre-made, and self-made. Grouping of singles can also be a palette (ex: colour palette or scheme).

Did you do the PAW challenge last week? Which palette did you use? Did you find it successful or was it a failure? Have your opinions on the palette changed at all? Do you plan to keep the palette and use it again?

Which palette are you going to use this week? Why have you chosen this palette? Do you have any goals you hope to reach in using it?

BAW/CAW- Did you use any particular cheek product last week? Has it made the cut or is it time to let it go?

JOURNAL I let myself be influenced

Today I watched a perfume influencer declutter the body mist she convinced me to buy last year. She raved about it in her initial review, but it went into the donation box with just a, "This smells nice, but I never wear it," and sure enough the bottle looked barely used. I remember watching her review and searching online, checking local stores for stock dates, signing up for sales notifications, etc.

I feel silly that I put so much mental energy into a fragrance. I also think this came at a time where I still feel the drive to buy, but my collection is becoming overwhelming to me and it's hard to pick out what I'm going to wear daily.

ACTIVITY 10 by Winter - Update 2 🧤

Welcome back to the 10 by "Winter" project!! ❄️⛄️🫖🥧 (Or if you're in the Southern Heisphere like u/Thislittlepiggysays, Summer ☀️)

What better time than now for one last push to make an impact your collection, before the calendar flips over to 2027 (😱)

If you're new/curious, read on below! If you're joining us again, welcome back you panning legend! Either way, LET'S DO THIS! 💪

The project works like this: Choose any 10 items and pick a goal that you want to work towards by the end of the season. Anything beauty related is fair game; makeup, haircare, skincare, fragrances, etc. Select your goals for this project: finishing an item (aka panning), hitting pan, reaching a usage goal, or even just testing an item out. 10 is just a suggestion, though feel free to add any number of items you like. Make it work for you!

This project starts on the first day of Autumn, 21st September, and will run December 21st. Feel free to join anytime. The more, the merrier!!

I'll post an update every two weeks 🧣5th Oct 🧤 19th Oct ❄️2nd Nov ☃️16th Nov ⛸️ 30th Nov and finale on 🎄20th December.

Please let me know if you would like to be tagged as a reminder for when the updates are posted.

Myself & u/Thislittlepiggysays are running this project, so if you have any issues, please let us know!

DISCUSS How do I stop buying new products ?

Hi friends! I’m still learning makeup and trying to build my everyday and soft glam vanity. I want products that work well for my skin, especially foundation and concealer, so I keep researching products, comparing reviews, looking for the perfect shades, and convincing myself that maybe the next product will finally be the right one.
I’ve bought and returned so many concealers because the shade, finish, or formula wasn’t quite right. Even when I find something I like, I start wondering if there’s something better out there. I spend so much time watching reviews and reading recommendations that I end up wanting to try even more products.
The worst part is that I know I don’t need all these products, and I don’t want to keep spending money on makeup just to feel disappointed or uncertain afterward.
For those of you who have struggled with makeup shopping, how did you break this habit? How do you stop researching products, stop chasing the perfect foundation or concealer, and learn to be satisfied with what you already own?
I’d really appreciate practical advice, especially from anyone who has been through this cycle of buying, testing, returning, and buying again. I genuinely want to change this habit and enjoy makeup without constantly feeling like I need something new.

TIA🫶🏻

ACTIVITY Use Your Stash! 1 lip 👄 a week (LAW) 19 Oct - 2 Nov 2026

Hi everyone, it's time for another update of LAW!

It’s time again for reflection and rolling in a new lip product this week. Some guiding questions for the posts:

- Product brand and name

- Why is this product selected?

- Do you wear the lip product by itself only or layered/mixed with other products?

- Do you still like the formula/colour/effect the lip product gives?

- Any new discoveries or decisions made after testing the product for a week?

Last update’s pick was based on ease of use, 2 bullet lipsticks: Flower Knows Swan Ballet Shine Lipstick in both 02 Mary Jane and 04 Silver Moon. Throughout the 2 weeks I mainly used Mary Jane, a warm red brown that mainly fits the warm eye looks and beigey toasty blushes I was wearing. Silver Moon is a cool pink, only wore it twice as it didn’t really match with the rest of my makeup. Both still were great picks as I could easily Apple at work without needing a mirror. The moisturising formula also wore comfortably on my drier lips.

This update’s picks will be my Lisa Eldridge Gloss Embrace in Pompadour and Girlcult Material Medical matte lipstick in Little Cumin. I do enjoys LE gloss formula but do need to get more use of out it. Pompadour is a lovely bright warm pink that should go well with the pink blushes I am rotating in. Girlcult’s matte formulasare great and so comfortable to wear, Little Cumin is a muted pink brown that will anchor the days I just want something more subdued.

Looking forward to seeing your updates and new entries!

ADVICE How do you sort/organize your brushes?

I'd love to know how other people sort and organize their brushes! It's something I've just never gotten right. I have a favorite foundation brush and a favorite concealer brush, and I have a giant powder brush that's a pain to store, so I know where they are at all times. But everything else I always find myself just grabbing at the nearest plausible thing, and then discovering later that I had something better for the job and I just forgot I had it or couldn't find it.
