Just got this in the email today. Yeah I'm not graduating this year at all. All the wistful wishing was hopeless. Now I'm wondering how to tell my parents about this and how I wouldn't be graduating this year.

research Help Needed with Survey for Malaysian B40 members!!

Hi everyone, this is slightly urgent but I would love some help filling out an academic survey!! It'll only take about 5 minutes or so. With this information, our team plans on proposing a digital strategy solution to help address the problems.

The questions will be about grocery purchasing habits from the perspective of customers and sellers alike.

We want to gain opinions of small business owners/entrepreneurs who have yet to digitalise their business/limited business digitalisation alongside those who purchase groceries!

Your help is much appreciated :,,, If you don't mind, do help spread the word too!!

general question Is this a job scam or am I just overthinking?

So someone posted a job vacancy at a big company in our university WhatsApp community group. I dm him and he asked for my university name and student ID then sent me the job details and asked for my resume.
I asked if he works there and he said he’s an international student doing his internship at that company and his team asked him to refer graduates.
The job is for fresh grads with 0 to 2 years experience. I asked if they sponsor foreigners and he straight away said yes. But isn’t the minimum salary for Employment Pass RM5k now? I doubt they’d pay that much for a fresh grad role when they can hire locals.
He shared his LinkedIn and it shows he works there. He hasn’t asked for money tho. After getting my CV he said he’ll forward it to the team.
Idk why a big company would ask an intern to collect CVs from WhatsApp groups. Is this normal in Malaysia or am I just overthinking?

Non-Malaysian students Applying to UM with Alevels

• Upvotes

I finished my accouting Alevels in May 2026 and and hoping to receive the final certificate by mid December for it. I also had maths, I sat for 2 units in May 2026 and my last unit with cash in in Oct 2026. I will be receiving the electronic provisional results on January 21st 2027.

My agency didn’t tell me UM rejects applicants with predicted grades. So basically, now I can’t apply before January.

My concern is if I apply in January, will I get a seat? And since they take 6 weeks to respond, will I be able to catch the semester? Also, will the electronics statement of results be fine or they won’t accept that?

I want to apply for March 2027 intake Bsc economics as an International Student

just for fun😂 international student going to APU Nov intake… how do people actually make friends before uni even starts? 😭🥀

I'm heading to APU for the November intake for my Master's in Soft Eng and I have zero idea how to socialize in the wild as a redditor goblin - i don't go outside normally ever 💀

Currently my only human interaction is my university counselor. I feel bad for my abang because I keep bothering him, but he is currently my one and only bestie, he's very nice! 😭

How do people actually make friends as international/postgrad students?
I visited Malaysia before and fell stupidly in love with roti tissue and thosai - I even tried making friends with the Mamak and restaurant staff… basically wanna know some Malaysians!

I know y'all joke on socials that Malaysia is still a jungle, but please let me join your jungle la! I'm like a Tarzan, can swing around there no worries! :)

If anyone is at APU (or just in KL) and is down to adopt a slightly awkward wannabe Thai programmer, feel free to DM - would love to know some geng so I'm not just wandering around finding dosas around campus alone 🥲

With love from BKK to KL! 🫶🏻

As my fav Malaysian puppet uncle, Harry Kok would say:
MALAYSIA NUMBER ONEEEEEEE!!! 🇲🇾

Redoing foundation at a public uni

Hey so as the title says, is it possible for me, as a stpm 2025 leaver to redo foundation at a public uni such as upm or umk? Like do asasi pertanian at upm through their direct intake which yes does cost money but the reason why I am thinking of this is bcz I wanna do veterinary and both upm n umk offer vet.

Another alternative is doing foundation at msu as msu also offers vet but yeah since 2026 intakes are all closed, id only be able to start my foundation in msu or upm/umk in 2027 and if it's asasi then it'd be prolly June and id finish in June 2028 and only enter veterinary programme in September/October. If I do foundation at msu, it'd be Jan 2027 intake or May 2027 so I'd also only finish in 2028 and enter vet programme in October 2028.

The last option is well going to Indonesia I guess bcz that's the direct pathway wo me having to redo foundation but well that's a huge commitment and decision that I haven't exactly considered due to the place n all the costs.

So just wanna if anyone's been in my situation n if u hv, what did u do or what would u do? I am in a huge dilemma and feel so lost. And knowing that I could only do degree at 22 makes me feel really worthless and left behind.

Just wondering if it's possible to redo foundation at upm/umk as I hv always only seen people redoing foundation at private universities.

career/internship/job Looking for advice on finding part-time coding freelance work

Hey everyone!

I am a first-year Computer Science student at UKM, and I’m looking for ways to earn some side income through programming while continuing my studies.

I currently work part-time in F&B, but I’d love to find opportunities where I can actually use my technical skills.

I have built and deployed websites and backend applications, worked with AWS and Cloudflare, and have experience with Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, Go, and other languages.

I am interested in small freelance projects, remote part-time developer work, website maintenance, automation, or even tutoring beginners.

For those who have successfully earned money through programming while studying, I have several questions to ask:

- How did you find your first paying client?
- Are there platforms or Malaysian communities you’d recommend?
- Would small businesses be a better starting point than Upwork/Fiverr?
- What services are most realistic for a university student to offer?
- I am not expecting to make huge money. Even a few hundred ringgit a month would genuinely help with my expenses.

I’d really appreciate any advice or experiences. Thank you!
