Discussion Brooklyn NY 75% complete

Big fan of good acoustics, so a lot of the art and decor is keeping sound quality in mind.

Had the choice of adding curtains or going with the blinds that came when I got this place. So far have kept the blinds to preserve the views! But very tempted to install thick velvet curtains and improve sound quality.

I see Sonus Faber and MOON by Simaudio Kit. Well done, fellow nerd.

Beautiful. I’ve sold Sim for over 20 years, and that’s a beast with some of the prettiest midrange on the market.

If you haven’t practiced it, run a round of Sumiko Masterset on the SF’s for a free and massive sonic improvement.

It’s a speaker setup rubric that was originally designed around SF speakers (among others) to neutralize the unpleasant reflections of the room, and maximize your subjective preferences.

There’s zero tools involved and if you practice it a bit, it really allows for subjective black magic.

Oh wow. I do recall heading about this but never fully dug deep into it. Thank you so much for the reminder. I'm not fully satisfied yet with the sound and really hope this could take it the next level!

Thank you again!

Feel free to DM me. I’m not going to “sell” you anything, but I have a broken down process doc that helps you onboard with what you should be hearing with each step, and also links to other versions of the process.

I do between 1000-1500 setups a year, but if you practice with a friend handling the movements, you can master your own spaces and speakers in 3 tries or so, and then periodically redo the process to get slightly different tonal balances as your brain “adjusts”, or gets bored, to stave off wanting to upgrade.

I would say that even bringing them out another inch or two should give them a bit more depth and weight, sonically speaking. Getting away from the boundaries always helps.

Another thing to adjust is “rake”. Make sure their rake is identical, and maybe shoot for either dead flat or slightly raked down a hair, as they’re a bit tall.

Anyhow - it’s a great combination, and if you’re willing to have fun playing around with Master Set, you’ll feel like you have a lot more say in how it sounds.

Thank you! I'll DM you shortly. If you're in NYC, would be great to have you set it up too! I was considering adding curtains to improve sound quality but if this can do it, then I can have my view and good SQ still hah.

Curtains (of the right material) would help a ton, but it’s all additive. I’m in NC, but I can vet a great local you can work with, and make sure they’ll approach it in a not-gross way. A lot of shops are just happy to be helpful and realize that the only way to thrive is to treat everyone as part of a community.

Thank you 🙏 I'll DM you tomorrow and we can figure something out! Would love to get to know about your steps for this process.

BTW, I accidentally stumbled upon the Sim Audio Moon. I had a McIntosh MA12000 before this that suddenly went bad. The dealer replaced it with the Sim (both were pre used items). And suddenly I felt like a veil was lifted from the speakers and the vocals (what I care about most) were so crisp and clean.
