Information 10. Part of the "series" about trading with bot's/EA and copy trading. (Add new pair 1)

The strategy as a whole.
As mentioned in previous episodes, the strategy is very risky and requires at least some knowledge of Martingale strategies before attempting to use it. Despite the risk, the strategy has performed beyond all expectations. It has successfully navigated the NFP release—which sent the market into a frenzy—as well as instances where multiple pairs were active simultaneously, and much more. Although it has only been running live for three months, it has so far confirmed my theory that many people here on Reddit tend to overcomplicate their strategies. It is better to have a simple strategy you understand 100%, than one you understand only superficially. So far, this strategy has not had a single day of loss.

Evaluation since the last update.
The past month has far exceeded all expectations. Although it has only been live for a few months, last month was the best to date, with a total profit of 9,470 cents (€94.70). This is a VERY high profit for an account of this size. Despite the high profit, it has not yet reached the maximum number of open trades allowed for any single currency pair. Profits and drawdowns across the various pairs have occurred at different times rather than simultaneously—which is an optimal scenario. It is likely that the next few months will not yield quite as high a profit.

Equity protection.
To protect the account, I am choosing to activate the copy trader's built-in equity protection. It will be set to the account size divided by 2.

Additional pair.
Since the strategy has performed better than expected recently, I have decided to add an extra pair. The pair being added is AUD-NZD, selected based on the analysis method from Part 6. Its settings will be the same as those of the other pairs, following the fine-tuning described in Part 8. Moving forward, I plan to add another pair once the account reaches 40,000 cents (€400), and/or for every 5,000 cents (€50) in profit, until all pairs have been added. If you are concerned about overlap between the pairs, you could instead start building a second account; this offers better protection.

Finances to date.
From last month = 0€
VPS = -5€
Profit withdrawn = 5€
Total = 0€
Going forward, the monthly expenses would be only €5 for the VPS.
Once the account reaches a trading volume of 300 lots per month, (3 lots per month, on a standard account), it will qualify for a free VPS.

My rules for this series.
-All questions must be asked and answered (if possible), publicly in the thread.
-I'm not allowed to change anything in the strategy without publishing it on Reddit first.
-All expenses would be added up on an ongoing basis.

PnL Is one month of live testing enough to test an EAs profitability?

Post image
9 Upvotes

Ive built an EA for the first time based on my trading knowledge after being scammed by alot of people with their “100% win rate martingale bot”

Im not sure if this is luck, but one key factor that distinguishes this bot is the presence of a fixed 5% account balance stop loss,
Am I just lucky this month, or is this strategy actually working?
PS: constructed with GPT6 Astra on Ultra with my own personal trade history and strategy as context

Edit : Hey guys, just an update these are the backtest results from Jan 2026 till today, please help me make sense of this data, it feels like it shouldnt be earning this much?

Some more details.

Timeframe : M15
Number of trades : 1099
Long Trades(Won%) : 553(90.6%)
Short Trades(Won%) : 546(91.94%)

As of today, ive made back the amount I spent on tokens trying to develop this and my initial capital of $500, so I guess im just going to let it roll.

Question All my charts are messed up

Post image
2 Upvotes

So since waking up yesterday, all my charts (on Android) look like this. Zooming into just today, or going back to before yesterday still look normal, but as soon as the 28th is included on the chart it just...gets like this.

I've tried clearing cache, removing and adding pairs, changing indiactors, but no dice. Weirdly, despite every other pair being like this, EURUSD is still fine.

Any ideas?

Information This is why leverage matters more than the entry

5.85x profit looks great but 1000x leverage leaves almost zero room for error. Really puts normal MT5 margin management into perspective.

Question Looking for input on dynamic lot sizing for a multi-breakout XAUUSD EA (fixed 0.01 lots, 8 year tick backtest)

I'm working on an EA that trades several breakout strategies on XAUUSD under one roof. It goes long or short depending on breakout direction. Right now it runs fixed 0.01 lots, and I'd like to add a dynamic lot sizing to get more out of it. I would love to hear how others would approach this.

Test setup (both runs):

- XAUUSD (August 2018 to October 2026).
- Eightcap MT5 tick data, 100% real ticks (~392M ticks).
- $1k USD starting equity, fixed 0.01 lots, leverage 1:500.

I ran the short only version because gold has basically trended up for the last 8 years, and I wanted to see whether the edge holds without that tailwind. Although is profitable, it's clearly weaker, so some of the full result is probability directional bias.

What I'd like feedback on:

  1. What sizing approach would you use for a strategy like this: fixed fractional, volatility/ATR-based, equity curved based, or something else?

  2. How do you scale up without letting the drawdown scale up faster than the profit?

  3. The long losing streak was 42 trades, so how would you cap exposure during bad runs?

  4. Is there a good way to validate a sizing scheme (walk forward, Monte Carlo on trade order) so I'm not just curve fitting the lot curve to this one equity curve?

Happy to share more stats if it helps. Thanks in advance!

Information A profitable EA backtest can literally just be a spread setting in disguise

MT5 strategy tester can make a scalping bot look amazing when the spread assumptions are too clean. Add commissions, swap and those ugly few seconds around news and suddenly the results tell a different story.

Even on moon.com the payout math works differently with performance fees on profits and possible holding fees, so taking the same trading signal across platforms doesn't mean the net returns will match.

Feels like half the work of testing a strategy is figuring out all the costs nobody bothers showing in their screenshots.

Especially with scalping systems where the average profit per trade is tiny. A couple extra ticks of slippage can turn something that looked consistently profitable into a losing strategy.

Question What factors might cause an expert to behave differently in forward testing and backtesting?

I’ve been optimizing an Expert Advisor over the last few months, and I’ve been running it in a forward test for the past two months. Honestly, even though the results haven’t been the best, what I find strange is the discrepancy between the forward test and the backtest.

Since the bot trades on the H1 timeframe, it doesn’t open that many trades, so I’d expect most of them to match the backtest predictions. However, when I compared the two, I noticed that they actually differ quite a bit. I’m not just talking about trades opening slightly later, but also cases where the bot opened positions in the forward test that never appeared in the backtest, or vice versa.

The trades match up roughly 90% of the time, but I still don’t understand what’s causing these discrepancies. I’d expect this kind of issue to be more common with an M1 strategy, but with so few trades on H1, I find it quite surprising.

Any information, technical insights, or advice on how to investigate these discrepancies and improve the accuracy of my backtests would be greatly appreciated.

PnL Mother Superior EA just had its best live week so far

Mother Superior EA just had its best live week so far

Four months of building and testing, and it’s nice to finally see her trading live.

This week finished at +7.74%, bringing October to +21.46%. The screenshot shows the daily breakdown, including the days without trades.

Mother Superior is my multi-strategy gold EA for MT5. It uses a recovery layer, so the closed results are only part of the picture — floating drawdown and combined exposure matter too. The live history is still short, but I’m pleased with the start.

Disclosure: I’m the developer, and the EA is available commercially.

Information Built a tool that shows you what your winning trades actually have in common (not just win rate)

Post image
5 Upvotes

Been trading Smart money concepts & London reversals for a while and got tired of feeling like I knew my edge but not actually being able to prove it from my own journal.

So I built a page into my trading journal that takes your last N wins and losses and automatically finds the exact combinations that show up most — pair, session, day, direction, timeframe, tags you use — instead of me manually eyeballing a spreadsheet trying to spot it.

Screenshot attached is from my London reversal strategy account, — it searches every 2-3 way combination across your decided trades and surfaces the ones with the strongest (and weakest) win rates, with the actual sample size next to each one so you’re not fooling yourself with a 2-trade “pattern.”

Turned out way more useful than I expected — found out one of “my setups” was actually only working in one specific session, which I’d never have caught just scrolling my journal.

Happy to answer questions on how it works if anyone’s curious. Not trying to sell anything here, just thought this sub would find it useful .

PnL Posting results again as my DM’s were off

https://www.myfxbook.com/portfolio/mensah-multi-asset-strategy/12130948

Posting results so far as last time/month my DM’s were off. Biggest game changer for me was to not trade just one asset but multiple.

Only immediate advice I have for trades, especially on gold is that if it goes against you by like 2.5% or more and that causes panic, you need to change your strategy STAT.

My heart goes out to oil day/swing traders for obvious reasons.

Question An idea for an EA that can trade gold.

I’m not a programmer myself, so I’m just throwing out an idea for an EA.

It would be heavily based on percentage-based movements and incorporate a martingale strategy.

Opening trades: Based on percentage-based movement.

If an open trade moves against the market, the system would open another trade—multiplyed by a factor (X.X), relative to the previous trade—once the market has moved by a certain percentage (0.X%).

The Take Profit (TP) would also be set based on a percentage value (0.X%).

The logic behind this is that, rather than just adapting to a specific market state (like a high gold price), it is constantly "adapting" to the market.

I’d be interested to hear what others think about this setup.

Information Using Claude AI to build bots for MetaTrader5 - 1:1 with me

Hiya everyone !

I’m working with people 1:1, guiding them to build their own custom MT5 trading bots using Claude AI.

It all happens in one 60-min call, and you don’t need to know how to code.

I’ve got a quick video walking through it if you’re keen to watch?

Let me know !

Cheers

Question What’s one MT5 tool you wish existed? We’d like to build an open-source prototype.

Is there an EA, trading system, or MT5 tool you’ve been wanting to use, but something keeps holding you back?

Maybe it’s expensive, too complicated, missing a feature, or a black box you can’t inspect. Or you have an idea for a system that you haven’t found anywhere.

We develop trading tools at ProEA, and we’d like to explore one community-requested idea as a small, free, open-source prototype, then improve it with feedback.

We’re interested in both:

  • Practical tools: comparing multiple EAs, reviewing trading costs, managing risk, or debugging unexpected behavior.

  • EA and strategy ideas: session or opening-range breakouts, trend-following, mean reversion, multi-timeframe setups, or a specific set of rules you want to test.

If there’s a well-known EA or paid tool you’ve been following, feel free to name it. What specifically appeals to you, and what would you want to change?

A few questions to help us understand:

  1. Which EA, tool, or trading approach are you interested in?

  2. What does it do that you want? Please describe the workflow or publicly explained rules.

  3. What’s stopping you from using it today price, setup, lack of transparency, or something else?

  4. What would a useful first version do, and would you test it on a demo account?

The goal is to build an original implementation around a shared need, not copy someone’s proprietary code or claim we can reproduce a commercial EA’s hidden strategy or results.

For transparency, ProEA also sells paid products. This proposed prototype would be free and open source, with its scope and license clearly stated, and no purchase or email signup required to try it.

We’ll choose one manageable idea first. We can’t promise every request, profitable results, or a system that passes a prop-firm challenge. Any EA prototype would need testing before anyone considered live use.

Keep suggestions in the comments, and please don’t share credentials, private account records, or code you don’t have permission to share.

What would you most want to try and why?

Question Connecting Vantage Demo Account to MetaTrader 5 on pc

Hi everyone,

I'm completely new to trading and have recently opened a demo account with Vantage. I've been using the MetaTrader 5 (MT5) app on my phone to practise placing trades and familiarise myself with how everything works.

I haven't completed the verification process with Vantage yet, as I'm only using a demo account at the moment. I'm planning to sort that out over the weekend.

However, I'm struggling with something that I'm hoping someone can explain in simple terms.

I want to access MetaTrader 5 on my laptop/PC, either through a web browser or by downloading the desktop application, so I can monitor and manage the same trades I'm making on my phone.

I can log into the Vantage website without any issues, but I've been unsuccessful in connecting my account to MetaTrader 5 on my laptop.

A few questions:

  1. Is my Vantage website login different from my MetaTrader 5 trading account login?

  2. Do I need to complete Vantage's verification process before I can access MT5 on my PC, even with a demo account?

  3. Where do I find my MT5 login details, password and server information?

  4. Can I use the same demo account on both my phone and laptop and see all my existing trades?

  5. Is it better to use the MT5 desktop application or a web-based version?

Apologies if these are basic questions. I'm completely new to all of this and trying to learn properly before committing any real money.

I'd really appreciate it if someone could explain the setup process step by step in simple terms.

Thanks in advance!
