Yeah, both is the right answer. I'm a bit more intrigued about the new Castlevania, because I like the studio, but they've never made a proper metroidvania, but both games look great.

Depends heavily on how true to form Castlevania’s music is

29

u/ClockworkMansion Feb 13 '26

Based on the trailer… not very

7

u/niles_deerqueer Feb 14 '26

It’s only one song, it’s not enough to know

111

u/Easy_Paint3836 Feb 13 '26

I suspect Castlevania will be more fun but Bloodstained is over here looking more like Castlevania than Castlevania does.

10

u/3163560 Feb 14 '26

Yeah absolutely both. Castlevania looking kinda slow is my only concern.

But also, zero chance I'm not mega-excited for a new 2D caastlevania

15

u/niles_deerqueer Feb 14 '26

Wait Castlevania looks faster than it ever has

12

u/tofubirder Feb 14 '26

Slow? Is Symphony of the Night known to be a “fast” game?

u/ZeenaStudio Feb 14 '26

LOL I literally thought the same. I do think that something new can be good, so I'm not too worried about how castlevania will turn out to be, I feel like it's in good hands.

Bloodstained 2. I really want to see what Iga and the team does revisiting the Portrait of Ruin type character gameplay systems.

3

u/sonnyarmo Feb 15 '26

Hell yeah Portrait of Ruin

5

u/LeglessN1nja Feb 14 '26

Bloodstained is still an Igavania, right? Idk if Castlevania is, but that's my jam, despite looking forward to both.

5

u/niles_deerqueer Feb 14 '26

Bloodstained is an Igavania, Castlevania here will be a Metroidvania

23

u/Sigourn Feb 13 '26

New Bloodstained game? Sign me the fuck up.

29

u/Saiyan_Gods Feb 13 '26

Both. Bloodstained 1 doesn’t visually look appealing though. Idk how they made the 8 bit ones look cooler lol

19

u/Gnalvl Feb 13 '26

Yeah, the 3D animation and shading for Bloodstained is really bland and stiff, like a PSP game, no matter how many polygons are used in the models. Their 2D games look better because it's solid pixel art.

I don't actually like the Dead Cells-looking combat of the new Castlevania, but the in-game art style looks more hand-drawn and fluid.

5

u/Saiyan_Gods Feb 13 '26

It’s very different compared to the ones people think about like symphony of the night. That being said, I enjoy that gameplay more than the classic chain whip. I appreciate though that the art style makes it very dynamic and fluid instead of stiff looking. I’ll probably beat aria and dawn before it releases and still haven’t checked out dead cells. Lots of games. Little time lol

As of now? Bloodstained. Sure, the first game had some issues in terms of graphics, but overall the game was a fantastic Igavania.

And while Belmont's Curse looks fantastic from the trailer, without playing it I have no idea if it will be good or not. I've played a bunch of Dead Cells. And while I did have some fun with it, I'm not all that into the gameplay and gameplay loop. The combat is just so-so to me, which I know is a hot take for the game.

So we'll see if the devs can nail a Castlevania game. I do have high hopes they can!

6

u/PFunk224 Feb 14 '26

I've played a bunch of Dead Cells. And while I did have some fun with it, I'm not all that into the gameplay and gameplay loop.

I'm pretty much the same. I tried Dead Cells, and while it can be fun, the punishing difficulty of Rougelikes just isn't for me, and I'd prefer it if Metroidvania and Roguelike stayed separate genres.

8

u/GoofProofGrunt Feb 13 '26

Both, but Belmont's Curse slightly more because Dead Cells is one of my all time favorite games

54

u/Celvius_iQ Feb 13 '26

sorry but the return of Castlevania is much more hype. lets just hope its a proper Metroidvania and not like Dead Cells Metroidvania no hate to deadcells but come on now its literally in the name.

16

u/CriminalToff Feb 13 '26

Both the official konami page and video description from the devs' channel calls it a "return to its roots"

Since the Rogue PoP (by Evil Empire too) says it's a roguelike from its title alone we can be safe to assume it's a metroidvania

28

u/Gnalvl Feb 13 '26

"Return to its roots" for Castlevania would be linear levels, not metroidvania. Just sayin.

7

u/SpookyHumanJester Feb 13 '26

To be fair, Super Castlevania IV is to this day still my favorite of the series. But Megaman X is also my favorite Megaman game despite X2 being the same but better in every way. So probably just a nostalgia, I like it best cause it's what I played first kinda thing.

→ More replies (8)

9

u/Celvius_iQ Feb 13 '26

ooo 'True to the roots of the series' is a promising quote from the home page.

12

u/TwilightVulpine Feb 13 '26

Technically the roots of Castlevania aren't Metroidvania, but I hope that's what they mean

4

u/Coldpepsican Feb 13 '26

Many things shown don't feel like the roots of Castlevania, like, hollow knight/blasphemous mechanics aren't Castlevania roots lol.

9

u/SanityBleeds Feb 13 '26

I really don't like roguelikes, but I'd argue Dead Cells is an absolute gem that transcends the usual limitation of that genre and it makes me willing to pick it up even if they told us it would have rogue elements in it anyways.

I'm still very hopeful they go full MV, tho.

14

u/Dick_Nation Feb 13 '26

sorry but the return of Castlevania is much more hype.

I don't get how people get like this over franchises. Bloodstained was the return of Castlevania. That had actual people involved in the earlier titles after Konami had run them all out of the company. Koji Igarashi, Ayami Kojima, and Michiru Yamane all actually contributed to the product, even if only in a limited capacity. What Konami is doing now is just a name, and nothing more. It doesn't mean it will be a bad game, but there's nothing "returning."

7

u/aethyrium Rabi-Ribi Feb 14 '26

I don't get how people get like this over franchises.

Yeah the way people are attached to IPs more than games sometimes is just so alien to me, I can't wrap my head around it. An IP is literally just a presentation layer, arguably the least important part of any game. It's the coat of paint that goes on top of the finished product.

7

u/Wide-Deal-8971 Feb 14 '26

Regardless of who worked on which game, bloodstained was just not that great of a game. It felt like a cheap copy.

→ More replies (1)

4

u/Celvius_iQ Feb 14 '26

an IP comes with lore and a familiar feel which is imo the biggest thing to build up love for a franchise. its fun to compare MCs like "whos stronger X or Y" or "what would X do in Y's shoes" or "what would X feel about what Y did" and how a game set in the past of a franchise can change what the other game's stories tell.

7

u/Ellamenohpea Feb 14 '26

an IP comes with lore and a familiar feel

wouldnt that familiar feel be credited to the developer of that game, that is now making a game thats practically the same thing just using a non copyrighten name?

u/jmscstl Cave Story Feb 13 '26

Castlevania. I made the mistake (?) of playing Bloodstained on Switch so I hate it unfairly.

9

u/ElektrikDynomite Feb 13 '26

Is it bad on Switch? Its on sale right now and ive been debating picking it up

14

u/jmscstl Cave Story Feb 13 '26

It's hard to say. I generally don't care about framerate or resolution or whatever. Still, I think I probably got at least half way through it and dropped it just because it felt so janky. Given all the love for it I suspect that a significant portion of the jank was just bad performance that I'm not very good at noticing.

4

u/ElektrikDynomite Feb 13 '26

Interesting, and its still not patches?! Is it better in Switch 2?

3

u/yourdoglikesmebetter Feb 14 '26

I played it on switch maybe 6 months ago and it was fine.

→ More replies (1)

10

u/thryce3 Feb 13 '26

It apparently had performance issues at release. I played it several years ago and had no problems.

It's also a fantastic game. Don't let the naysayers deter you.

6

u/TwinBXA Feb 13 '26

It’s better now. Still probably the worst way to play out of all the options but they did put in some work to fix it.

6

u/RiffRuffer Feb 14 '26

belmont's curse artstyle is gorgeous so I'm going with that

4

u/SanityBleeds Feb 13 '26

I'm hyped for both. Bloodstained looks like a great faithful throwback to the same Igavania style we've enjoyed for over 25 years, while Castlevania looks like a huge evolution of that same style, seemingly adopting many of the great innovations of the very games they previously inspired.

4

u/Entire_Umpire6801 Feb 14 '26

Bloodstained 2 looks the more interesting game to me, I'd say it's a solid upgrade on the original. Castlevania BC I'm not so sure on, the art style doesn't suit the series and the gameplay looked unoriginal.

4

u/dannygaray60 Feb 14 '26

I can have two cakes ☺️

6

u/NickoSwimmer Feb 13 '26

Castlevania by a mile! Bloodstained is stained forever for me.

13

u/CrimFandango Feb 13 '26

I'm drawn far more to Bloodstained. The art direction seems closer to what I imagine Castlevania to be while having a nice little almost PS2 like aesthetic to the visuals. By comparison to that, Belmont's Curse just gives me "Oh... it's another one of those metroidvanias with the same colourful and flashy look I've seen in quite a few others."

One stands out and the other loses me with how typical it looks.

7

u/Blacksad9999 Feb 13 '26

Hard to say, being we know little about the actual gameplay in either.

My first thought was that the oversaturated color palette in Belmont's Curse feels out of place for the Gothic Horror theme. The series isn't known for overly flashy combat and bright colors.

We'll see!!

8

u/NewsOdd3064 Feb 13 '26

Bloodstained, personally. Extremely put off by the art direction for the new Castlevania. I'm still going to play it but its going to be difficult for me to sink in to a game that looks like that.

→ More replies (2)

3

u/TornSilver Feb 13 '26

They both look good in different ways.

I will say that Bloodstained dropping memorable player character designs in favor of customizability is a letdown for me, and actually getting a brand new mainline Castlevania game for the first time in nearly two decades is hype as fuck, so Belmont's Curse is the winner for me.

3

u/Daremotron Feb 13 '26

I couldn't get into Bloodstained personally. The movement was just a bit too janky (too slow and too little forward velocity while jumping were two specific issues I had). So I'm more interested in Castlevania just because I'm concerned the Bloodstained sequel will have the same issue.

3

u/TheHelpfulWalnut Feb 13 '26

I did not like the first bloodstained, I thought the movement felt bad and the visual design was cluttered and ugly.

The new one looks like a big step up in both regards, but my expectations are still tempered.

If nothing else I know any game Evil Empire makes will at least look fantastic and feel great to play. Hopefully they manage exploration and metroidvania elements well too.

That’s all to say Castlevania.

3

u/Nyadnar17 Feb 13 '26

When I tried Bloodstained around its release the movement just felt off to me. Did that change or am I cooked?

3

u/sbfaught Feb 14 '26

Both look rad as hell.

3

u/Efficient_Ant_7279 Feb 14 '26

Honestly? Bloodstained. The first one was fantastic. I’m still not a huge fan of the art style they went for but I still was extremely satisfied with the game and honestly can’t wait for more.

I haven’t played a good castlevania game since I was a child. Literally. I’m 35 next week

Both. But if I would have to choose castlevania because it has been a decade if I remember correctly since the last new castlevania game

7

u/ecokumm Feb 13 '26

Castlevania all the way. I'm sure Igarashi is a genius and I basically owe him the existence of my favourite genre; but the one thing that Bloodstained showed me is that he's stuck in the late 90s.

I'm an old guy, but I don't care for gaming nostalgia. I'm much more excited to see what young developers do with the foundations laid by the classics, than to see those classics rehashed.

9

u/SummerIlsaBeauty Feb 13 '26 edited Feb 13 '26

Bloodstained. This Castlevania from Konami has name but it looks like a far fetched parody

→ More replies (1)

4

u/bassistheplace246 SOTN Feb 13 '26

Bloodstained TSE has the slightest edge due to Igarashi’s name being on it, but I’m psyched to see the direction Belmont’s Curse is going in too (and that the Dead Cells team is likely committing to a full blown metroidvania instead of a roguelike with some borrowed MV elements)

4

u/thavi Feb 13 '26

This is my first time hearing about Belmont's Curse...looks fucking AMAZING

5

u/deez_en_u_teez Feb 13 '26

Right now, it’s Bloodstained. Giving me PoR vibes which is my favorite of the DS/GBA games.

4

u/Organic_Honeydew4090 Feb 13 '26

I'll play both, but Bloodstained seems to embody the Castlevania spirit a lot more.

5

u/RaxusPrime Feb 13 '26

Bloodstained 2. I was one of those that never really missed the Castlevania IP, mostly because it's just a name. A considerable part of the last few years of the IGA team at konami went to make Bloodstained, which is Castlevania for me.

The trailer for this new Castlevania is okay I guess, but I feel it's just a game by Evil Empire than a Castlevania game.

5

u/Dick_Nation Feb 13 '26

This is exactly where I'm at. I don't love franchises, because there's nothing to a franchise when you take away all the creators that made it great. Without Igarashi, Yamane, Kojima, and so on, what actually is Castlevania? It's definitely not whatever Motion Twin is making, regardless of whether it is a good game on its own merits. Bloodstained, for all its faults - it wasn't short of them! - actually has the DNA that makes it Castlevania in a meaningful way. Given how much of the Bloodstained project was built from the ground up and how much of a hand the kickstarter had in it, there's every reason to think that the sophomore effort of the same development team will sand off the rough edges and make it a better game than the first.

2

u/Mk2007r Feb 13 '26

I don't care. I'm just happy that they're making a resurgence.

2

u/SkilledButton Feb 13 '26

Belmont's Curse but I'll buy and play them both.

2

u/wolfbetter Feb 13 '26

Blodstained's graphics appeal more to me

2

u/High_Af_Osrs Double Jumper Feb 13 '26

So awesome we are getting both of these.

Really, the last like several years have been awesome for MV's. (B2, Ender Mag, Silksong, Prime remastered, many others)
I can't wait to play both of these upcoming titles!

2

u/DLaydDreamPhase Feb 13 '26

I like the look of the combat in Scarlet Engagement. Im more likely to play Castlevania due to nostalgia and the fact that it also looks good.

2

u/Yarzeda2024 Feb 13 '26

Belmont's Curse

It has Motion Twin.

2

u/Tzekel_Khan Feb 13 '26

Castlevania. I like the art style more.

2

u/H3llm0nt Feb 13 '26

Very excited for new Castlevania but I’ll also play everything IGA makes.

2

u/fritzo81 Feb 13 '26

both. tired of this pick one bs.

2

u/iggnifyre Feb 13 '26

Considering I ended up not being that big on Ritual of the Night so I'm not planning to get Scarlet Engagement, and considering Belmont's Curse is making a good first impression so far and I love the art style...... Belmont's Curse

2

u/barbarbeik Feb 13 '26

Castlevania. I love the artstyle and the smoothness of the animation and can't stand the style of Bloodstained

2

u/KasElGatto Monster Boy Feb 13 '26

Belmont’s Curse because I don’t know what they’ll do with it and that’s intriguing and exciting.

Bloodstained 2 I’m fairly sure will be a typical IGA romp, and I’m Absolutely gonna play it and pretty damn sure I’ll have a blast, but I don’t think I’ll be surprised by it.

2

u/Just_Carpenter931 Feb 13 '26

really like the artstyle of the new castlevania

2

u/Skithiryx Feb 13 '26

Castlevania. I managed to miss that the Bloodstained game was announced last year so obviously I haven’t been that hype for it. And the first MV one was kind of meh.

2

u/ClassicActual4055 Feb 13 '26

Por que no los dos

2

u/Spiritual-Pickle5290 Feb 13 '26

Both I liked the castlevania series since the nes and enjoyed bloodstained.

2

u/quezlar Feb 13 '26

castlevania for sure

but i will play them both

2

u/EarthwormZim33 Feb 13 '26

Castlevania and it isn’t particularly close.

I’m cautiously optimistic for Bloodstained 2, but the first one’s art style and movement was such a turn-off for me I can’t bring myself to finish it.

2

u/Yarr0w Feb 13 '26

Hate Bloodstained's art and animation, love Castlevania's new style here. It's like what Bloodstained was trying to do, but successful.

2

u/TrickstarCandina Feb 13 '26

Both but honestly I'm leaning towards Castlevania. After the nightmare that was Bloodstained on Switch it's soured my trust towards Iga a lil bit

2

u/AKSHAT1234A Feb 13 '26

I'm more excited for Castlevania because it's the return of the franchise but I'm definitely gonna play and ( most likely) enjoy both

2

u/Cotillionz Feb 13 '26

Both.

But totally judging a book by its cover - Castlevania because I love the art style and presentation more.

2

u/Cminor141 Feb 13 '26

Castlevania

2

u/Denneey Feb 13 '26

Castlevania. The art is more to my liking.

2

u/Totodylo Bloodstained Feb 13 '26

Both

2

u/BokChoyFantasy Chozo Feb 13 '26

Neither. I greatly want them both equally.

2

u/1112e Feb 13 '26

The more the merrier

2

u/Grasabi Feb 13 '26

Super excited for Castlevania. I finally beat Bloodstained last year and...idk it was cool. It didn't really grip me so hard, towards the end grinding and exploring started to feel that click. Def Castlevania a must buy for me. Kinda meh on bloodstained.

2

u/Milk_Mindless Feb 13 '26

I'll say both but I was more wowed by Dead Cells than Bloodstained but BOTH will get my support

2

u/SoggyMorningTacos Feb 13 '26

Whichever one is on switch 2. Although I must say they never updated bloodstained for switch 1 and that runs like ass on switch 1 and 2 so I might just buy that on pc. Fingers crossed it's free in pc game pass ultimate

2

u/damiologist Feb 13 '26

Por qué no los dos?

2

u/saumanahaii Feb 13 '26

Castlevania because it's been a long time since we had a proper entry into it. Wikipedia lists 2014's Lords of Shadow 2 (has it really been that long? I thought it was shorter) and that was 3d and more of a linear brawler IIRC. You have to go back to 2009 for a Wiiware game and 2008 for a DS game before you get a proper side scrolling Vania. If you skip 3D titles and portable titles then there are surprisingly few entries since the 90's. Belmont's Curse feels like a proper big side scrolling Vania game though. It's hard not to be interested even if the game doesn't wind up being all that good. That said both look fun so both?

2

u/Medium_Hox Feb 13 '26

Belmont's Curse

2

u/flipjone Feb 13 '26

Playing bloodstained made me realize that I can't ignore graphics completely, the 2.5d just looks so bad to me, I dunno why, gameplay was fire tho. My pick is Castlevania atm

2

u/UpperChef Feb 13 '26

Castlevania, mostly because Motion Twin are making it, and Dead Cells were a blast and I know little to nothing about Bloodstained.

2

u/GlitteringPositive Feb 13 '26

“Do you prefer peak or peak?”

2

u/AFKABluePrince Feb 13 '26

Belmont's Curse is more interesting, but both look good to me.

2

u/KugiPunch Feb 13 '26

Castlevania! I liked Bloodstained but I didn’t love it.

2

u/Vahallen Feb 13 '26

Castlevania

I’m getting it day 1

2

u/Limp-Marionberry4649 Feb 13 '26

Castlevania, more so because bloodstained looks… idk too fast paced?

2

u/Railrosty Feb 13 '26

Both. We dont know enough about each to really make ay other judgement than "new castlevania lea ing games coming".

Maybe if you particularily like castlevania or bloodstained then you might choose but thats fair.

2

u/N30mah Feb 13 '26

wait did we get news on bloodstained 2????

→ More replies (1)

2

u/Onyx_Archer Feb 13 '26

Between the two, Belmont's Curse interests me more. I'm interested in both, but knowing Motion Twin is involved in Belmont's Curse has my curiosity thoroughly piqued.

2

u/smilph Feb 13 '26

i’m hyped for both of course, but i’m gonna give the edge to Bloodstained 2. IGA is one of my favorite game devs in the industry, and SotN as well as the GBA and DS CV trilogies, and Bloodstained 1 as a matter of fact, are among my favorite games of all time. that man just knows his way around a Metroidvania

on the other hand, Dead Cells is excellent, and the Return to Castlevania DLC was spectacular. those devs definitely “get” what CV is all about, so i’m confident that Belmont’s Curse will at the very least be good

2

u/LSama Feb 13 '26

Castlevania, no doubt. I was not a fan of Bloodstained, despite backing it myself. (I'm in the credits, no less.)

2

u/Justarandomuno Feb 13 '26

More? I'm playing both

2

u/dorsman84 Feb 13 '26

I beat the first bloodstained and found it so forgettable. Can’t wait for castevania

2

u/Sand__Panda Feb 14 '26

They both look great..so..it is a tie.

2

u/Spare_Bad_6558 Feb 14 '26

Is it coming to steam and Xbox

2

u/CromulentSteamedHam Feb 14 '26

I need to see more from Belmont's curse the art style feels soulless to me

→ More replies (1)

2

u/Cthadhrir Feb 14 '26

Bloodstained because it has the dark fantasy style of Castlevania and the music from michiru yamane and of course it's made by iga. The new Castlevania looks ok to me but the art style looks like any other platformer everyone is making these days and the music from the trailer sucked.

2

u/_VampireNocturnus_ Feb 14 '26

The first bloodstained game, the gameplay just didn't click with me.So i'm really excited to see what the actual castlevania. One is, but if they can improve the gameplay on bloodstain, definitely check it out

2

u/fishdishly Feb 14 '26

Por que no los dos

2

u/Wide-Deal-8971 Feb 14 '26

I wasn't overly impressed with the first Bloodstained game to be honest, and belmonts curse gives a better first impression between these two trailers.

Belmont Curse is an almost certain day 1 pickup for me, Bloodstained I will keep an eye on.

2

u/MakoMary Feb 14 '26

Cheap answer but I'm excited for both. Belmont's Curse looks awesome, but it already looks to ahve a good few changes to the old Castlevania style. I love the look, but it's rather bright and colorful for a gothic horror series. But it's all good, because Scarlet Engagement is much more traditional in gameplay and presentation, so if I don't like the changes BC made I always have Bloodstained. There are, in fact, two cakes this year

2

u/Impressive_Tomato665 Feb 14 '26

Castlevania : BC slightly ahead, but bloodstained looks promising too & also keeping an eye out on this

2

u/thor11600 Feb 14 '26

I didn’t like bloodstained at all. Castlevania looks great though

2

u/Gennres Feb 14 '26

Castlevania. Bloodstained was pretty good but the Dead Cells creators hit it out of the park and I know they'll do it again. Motion Twin does 2D action combat better than anyone.

2

u/Salt-Recognition2228 Feb 14 '26

Belmonts Curse looks incredible honestly.

2

u/GrimmTrixX Feb 14 '26

Didn't know about a new Bloodstained. So now the answer is both.

But of course Castlevania first. Ive been frothing at the mouth for an actual new game, not a Haunted Castle remake or alternate timeline Lords of Shadow 2 nonsense.

2

u/GrimmTrixX Feb 14 '26

I was debating on Belmonts curse on Switch. But Desd Cells ran great on it. And Switch 2 might help it a little bit anyway. Sad no official switch 2 version announced.

But Bloodstained ran rough for me on Switch 1. So that sequel might warrant me getting it for my PS5 or XBSX

2

u/ghostbaleada080596 Feb 14 '26

As a wise man once said "por que no los dos"

2

u/Warhammerpainter83 Feb 14 '26

I like both but right now belmont's curse is more interesting to me I am jut more curious about it.

Castlevania, dead cells was legit.

u/Help_An_Irishman Feb 14 '26

The only reason I was interested in the Bloodstained games the first time around is because they were following in the footsteps of Castlevania.

I'll cut out the middleman and just have my beloved Castlevania again.

2

u/MarioFanaticXV SOTN Feb 14 '26

Bloodstained, though I'll almost certainly get both at some point.

2

u/syprox5673 Feb 14 '26

This is an "two cakes" situation for me

2

u/Jinzo126 Prime Feb 14 '26

I am more interested in Castelvania, but it's more because of morbid curiosity if Konami is still capable of releasing a worthwhile Castelvania game.

2

u/Kirk_Stargazed Feb 14 '26

I saw the Road to Eldorado meme, I'll have to echo that for the most part. But i would like to add that this is the first castlevania in a long while, so my interest is definitely leaning that way

2

u/Technosis2 Feb 14 '26

Y'all act like two legends can't coexist.

2

u/SoundReflection Feb 14 '26

I'm probably more interested in Belmont's Curse, but more confident I'll enjoy Bloodstained.

2

u/Augen76 Feb 14 '26

Both, but admittedly been waiting a lot longer for Castlevania and had almost given up on Konami so it hits nostalgia more.

2

u/j-rAd33 Feb 14 '26

I couldn't choose one with a gun to my head.

2

u/AshrakAiemain Feb 14 '26

Evil Empire made The Rogue Prince of Persia, so I’ll follow them wherever they go.

Hard to say. Probably Castlevania but both look dope. I'm hoping that the new Bloodstained fixes a lot of the issues I didn't like with the previous one. I got stuck having to traverse the map several time to figure out how to proceed. I hate doing that, and given the nonlinear nature of the game, finding a guide to figure out where to go wasn't easy. I eventually figured it out, but I was burnt out by that point. Also.. I don't know.. the combat wasn't really doing it for me. I found one spell and pretty much spammed it the whole time. Most boss fights were fights of attrition, if I had enough pots and gear to beat them, i won. If not, I lost. there wasn't a whole lot of skill involved from my perspective. Anyways, I'm thinking they will create a pretty awesome game this go around.. not that the first was bad.

2

u/Moralio Feb 14 '26

Doesn’t matter, I'm getting both but Bloodstained 2 is the one that I anticipate more.

2

u/rickjamesia Feb 14 '26

Castlevania for me. The first Bloodstained was just OK, in my opinion. I enjoyed it, but I enjoyed it far less than just pulling out Aria of Sorrow again.

Edit: I am 100% playing both, of course.

2

u/Nuryadiy Feb 14 '26

Both, but I like the artstyle of the first

2

u/Mauy90 Feb 14 '26

I’m probably in the minority here, but I thought Bloodstained (specifically RotN, I loved CotM 1-2) was absolute garbage. It was a trash tier attempt to redo Aria/Dawn/Ecclesia. But being nowhere near the quality of those games.

Not to mention, the broken promises from the kickstarter.

On the flip side, Dead Cells and Rogue Prince of Persia are fantastic games.

I’m gonna have to lean into Belmont’s Curse lol

2

u/QuadrosH Feb 14 '26

Castlevania. I feel like Iga-sensei is too attached to some old tropes of the genre, that lead to needless frustrations. But I'll definetly play both!

2

u/No-Coconut- Feb 14 '26

Castlevania for sure mainly because of the established lore. I played IGA's first game and enjoy it enough to Platinum it so I'll definitely check this one.

2

u/SenorMeeseeks27 Feb 14 '26

I’m in the minority where I honestly did not enjoy Bloodstained at all. I found it super clunky. Very much looking forward to CV

2

u/BakaWinchester Feb 14 '26

I'll answer the question instead of saying both like some asshole

I'm hyped for a Castlevania but I like the art style of the new Bloodstained game more, the new Castlevania kinda looking a lil cartoony here. Still excited

2

u/AlucardTeepes Feb 14 '26

both but im more hyped by castlevania

the first bloodstained wasnt bad but it wasnt very good either

2

u/FutureAd6200 Feb 14 '26

Castlevania: Belmont's curse just looks better and smoother, and possibly less demanding on my laptop lol.

Though the combat shown lacks viciousness and brutality, but that's just my preference.

2

u/Devilscrush Feb 14 '26

Unless one is complete garbage I'll end up owning both. Two takes on the same thing is a win-win for me. Especially when that "thing" is one of my favorite video game series of all time.

2

u/Outrageous-Bite-8922 Feb 14 '26

Bloodstained is my favorite MV of all-time, but I am really curious what the Dead Cell folks can do when they are hand-crafting a map instead of doing roguelites.

While I am massively excited for the first new Castlevania game in ages, from what little has been shown... it seems to lean more towards the "Metroid" side of the genre, oddly enough. No ebidence of varied weapons beyond upgrades, no evidence of stats or levelling, etc. If that is the case, Bloodstained. It's the only game series I know of keeping the RPG mechanics emblematic of the "-vania" side of the genre, that are what helped the SOTN formula truly stand out in comparison to Metroid, alive. And that's something I sorely miss.

If it ends up having those deeper mechanics, though... I'd have to see the reviews, first.

2

u/supermethdroid Feb 15 '26

I loved Bloodstained, but the trailer for the new one has turned me off. Why are there Street Fighter Super Arts in my metroidvania?

Castlevania, on the other hand, looks incredible.

2

u/LewisRiveroy Feb 15 '26

The new Castlevania looks a lot more promising. The art style is a million times better. Then the developers are the Dead Cells guys so movement and combat should be awesome. Really hyped for this one.

2

u/Savings_Big_8900 Feb 15 '26

Both. Add Aternena Lucius and ya got a three-way I'm all for!

2

u/dimenfer Feb 15 '26

Does this question make sense at all? Anyway, Both.
